“Just what we were looking for!”
Reviewed November 21, 2010

We read other reviews before we booked, and I can only wholeheartedly agree with the one that said something like 'moaners - stop complaining'! The apartments were less basic than many reviews led us to believe and we had everything we needed. The living area was huge, there was plenty of storage space, and the balcony was sunny and secluded despite being in a big complex. Some of the reviews complain about cockroaches - we had exactly one (though it was a huge one...) but what do you expect in a hot climate? The place was slightly disturbed by roadworks, but they have to be done sometime and will soon be completed - it also looks as if the street itself will be really smart when it's done. We had limited contact with service as we were self catering and out a lot but all the staff we met were friendly, polite and helpful. Some reviews mention the hill but it really was more of a slope and we didn't find it difficult at all, even with our cases (the roadworks meant our shuttle couldn't stop right outside, a temporary state). It was exactly the area I wanted to stay in after previous trips and I would definitely go there again.

i just got back on sunday from this hotel, we had a brilliant first time in tenerife. The hotel is newly all inclusive, this has only been going for the last two weeks. The hotel has partly been refurbished, brand new bar area and resturant to cater for all inclusive guests.Very modern compared to the rooms. The food at the min was hit and miss, we had some really good meals in the hotel, because it's new they are not presenting food that you would eat together, we had most days a random mixture of different thing. ie spinach, colliflower, chips and lasange. I think in time they will get this right, but other than that we enjoyed it. Always got salads, fruit, bread rolls. Puddings are again strange mixture but theres always ice cream dinner and lunch. Be careful with drinks not everything is not included in all inclusive, only 2 cocktails on the menu you could have free, and all local beers and spirits. I booked the acomodation through monarch/cosmos, on their website they said the snacks and ice creams at the pool bar are free and we did not get this included. Drinks were free, any snacks you have to pay for. There is no entertainment at the min either. We had it one night of our whole holiday, We dont usually stay for this so it didnt bother us one bit.
Rooms were really big, always being cleaned, towels changed all the time, bit dated but we were very happy for the money we had paid.
The hotel is on a slight hill, not to bad but getting down to the harbour area and beach would not be great for them with walking difficulties. There is road works outside the hotel as well at the min, didnt bother us one bit while we was there though. Heard them sometimes around the pool but doesnt disturb you.
Please be aware this hotel is not in playa de las americas, alot of people while we was there got told it was and its not, veronicas strip is about 40min walk, there is lots of bars around the hotel and down at costa adeje harbour, but are more chill out bars for couples with karaoke and music acts, alot of the bars offer 1euro a pint in the day and some at night time as well, so not to expensive if you go out either.
overall we had a brill week, would def go again and would recomend if you dont mind the above.

have just come back from staying in the Playa Olid with my husband and brother and sister in law arrived at 8 o'clock in the evening to find that our electric did not work informed the reception who asked did we want to move to another apartment as this would have been in an other block I informed them that I didn't really want to move as we had come with family who were in the next apartment to us I was then informed if we didn't mind they would send someone straight to fix the problem which they did it seemed that the boiler was tripping the electric within a half hour the old boiler was taken out and a new one put in where would you get that in Britain, the next morning i asked the reception if it was possible to have some more pillows within ten minutes they were there, the staff were so helpful, after reading some reviews I was a bit worried about staying here but I would recommend it to anyone, Alex at the pool bar was so nice you felt as if you had your own private waiter, also you have to check out the Hot Tub on the first floor my idea of Heaven. The maid service was excellent apartment cleaned every day except Thursday and fresh linen and towels daily.

Visited the Playa Olid apartments with my boyfriend the week after half term this February on a self-catering basis. I visited Tenerife many years ago as a teenager but this was the first time for him. We were both a little dubious about the apartments due to the (understatement) highly mixed reviews we read on here. However....what a surprise! We had an effortless journey courtesy of Thomas Cook airlines (we booked through Teletext holidays online with Purple Holidays- GREAT last minute deal, highly recommend as a travel company!!) & opted out of the resort transfers offered by the tour operator. BEST decision- the buses from outside the airport take you straight to Playa De Las Americas bus station & instead of a £20 transfer, it cost us a measly 1.60 euros. We opted to walk from the bus station as it is a little way away from Las Americas main town but it's a good idea if you want to get a feel for the place before you get there & check in. Otherwise, there are follow-on buses that take you right outside the apartments, namely the 487 & 111 (the no 111 did appear to go past the apartments but not sure if that was on the way back into the bus station or out of it away from the airport- worth checking before you get on).
The location of the apartments was perfect- 5 minutes walk from a huge Mercadona supermarket (out of the main entrance, turn right up the hill, over the bridge across the motorway & you can't miss it to your left- beware the very narrow walway along the pavement!) Plus over in the same precinct, plenty of little eateries for lunch if you're peckish before doing a shop plus a good looking ice cream stand! In case you happen to rip your waistband with all the good food on offer in the resort, there's even a little lady ready & waiting to do your clothing repairs for you! If you have the strength (or a willing & able male volunteer!) it's a much better idea to get your 5L or 8L water bottles at the supermarket rather than in the smaller "Kwikkie Marts" near the apartments who charge twice the price- use only in emergencies especially not for bread (2.20 euros for a 400g loaf!!)
Back the apartments, the reception staff were reasonably friendly & helpful but having said this, there was plenty of information pinned on the wall near the travel rep's desk round the corner from reception. Their English was pretty good but they only give enough information for you to get by, no more so don't expect great things! Hiring a remote for your TV is to be expected for 3-star accommodation but worth it if you can't tear yourself away from soaps etc!
I'm sorry but all those whingers that were moaning about cockroaches (earlier reviews around 2008) * flies should have chosen an apartment higher up i.e. 1st, 2nd or 3rd floor, we had no problems in green block no 519. February/March is the perfect time to visit these apartments as a) they are quieter & b) they are cooler than in the height of summer as there is no air conditioning- pick your season wisely!
The kitchen-lounge area was very big with everything you need in the kitchen for a month's stay if that takes your fancy! The bedroom was spacious, furniture a little tired but plenty of space in wardrobe & drawers. Maid service is 5 times a week except Thursdays & Sundays, towels & linen is (I think) changed twice per week. If you need anything specific, make sure you brush up on your Spanish before you book as the maids don't speak English at all!
Obviously being 3-star & Tenerife, the plumbing isn't exactly top notch so if you can put up with the beautiful whiff of sewers from the bathroom, you're a better person for it. To keep this to a minimum, keep the toilet seat down & the bathroom door shut, putting the plug in the bath may also help too.
Our balcony was very spacious although looked onto the rather unsightly Sky Park at the back. I can only assume this comes alive during summer so as previously mentioned, go for winter sun instead! There are 2 swimming pools on the complex- PLEASE don't be under false illusions that they're heated as they definitely aren't BUT a very refreshing dip when the sun is at its strongest. The pool at the rear of the complex is much quieter & more suited to couples & non-smokers. The front pool has a pool bar & was usually surrounded by families with children & (sorry to sound a typical snobby Southerner but hey, reviews are all about personal opinions!) loud Northerners. This also caused minor issues at night around 2-3am at pub/bar chuck-out time but thankfully, they all disappeared after the weekend!
To head into the main town, make a left out of the main entrance & walk down the hill past "The Pub"! Keep going past the landscaped roundabout, past the Esmeralda Playa at the bottom of the hill on your left & keeeeeeep going round the bend past the taxi rank when all the restaurants will come into sight.
Gordon Ramsay's (yes, you may be suspicious of the authenticity...) was WELL WELL worth a visit. 3-course meal including the best fillet steak I've tasted in I-can't-remember-how-long for 6.95 euros was cheaper than cooking for yourself in the apartments (if self-catering). Great value for money, go go go! Victoria next door was a little less exciting but good atmosphere nonetheless. Walking further down the street before the road takes a steep incline, you will find an awesome American bar- can't miss the classic American muscle car outside! Great live music & amazing cocktails- probably around 100 or so to choose from, be prepared to part with some serious cash & get stuck in! As previously mentioned, there isn't really a huge night scene in low season but go in summer for that.
On the sightseeing front, there are a whole host of agents in the resort with whom you can book trips to suit your budget & desires. If you'd rather keep it low key as we did, Los Gigantes on the bus takes around 1h30m but is a very quaint & picturesque place for a walk & look around. Siam Park the water park is probably a 15-20 minute walk from the apartments, you can't miss it on the hillside when you come into the resort. Loro Parque is the sister wildlife park to Siam Park but located on the other side of the island so be prepared for a full day out.
For those shoppers reading this (mainly women or men looking for nice jewellery for presents perhaps) there's a very cute jewellery shop in the resort with a 1 to 15 euro sign outside almost opposite the 5-star restaurant on the same side as the American bar- well worth a visit for some quirky little finds you will not get anywhere else.
Overall, a great relaxing holiday which we would be happy to repeat again next year. We agreed we will probably be hard-pressed to find as good a place for value for money as the Playa Olid so book away, you won't be disappointed!

My family and I booked this hotel at short notice with the main priority of getting some winter sun. On that basis, the Playa Olid was fine. Rooms were basic and clean. Reception staff were very helpful. We did have a problem with noisy neighbours but were swiftly moved to a different block which was much quieter.

Our children enjoyed the pool very much and there was plenty of sun beds.

Lots to do in surrounding area (diving, boat trips, Teidi etc). We were disappointed with the price of the cable car to go up Teidi however - this is very costly now compared to a few years ago.

Don't go expecting the Ritz and you'll be fine

Just returned after a very nice stay. The apartments are in several blocks and we were in a 1 bed apartment in "blue block" overlooking the pool. Spacious and clean with a large balcony. No air con or fan which will mean it would be very hot in summer. No oven - only 2 electric rings - but toaster, electric kettle and fridge.Maid service 4 out of 6 days. Very pleased with apartment itself - bathroom was quite good with a toilet, shower, sink, bath and bidet.

Two pools in complex and free sunbeds - mattress for sunbed 1 euro - one pool is nicer than the other. However, as this was low season there was only just enough space aroiund the pool and so space/sunbeds could be an issue in high season. The beach is quite a walk away and the hil after a day on the beach would be a bit of a killer.

Apartments are on a hill and so you need to be fairly fit. Quite a lot of traffic noise as on the main road and also on/near the motorway - again could be a problem depending on apartment location. Big supermarket nearby over the motorway but don't expect cheap prices !!! We found tenerife quite expensive and so won't be rushing back to Canaries or Spain. Eating out is reasonable but drinks are expensive - especially soft drinks - even in the supermarket.

Apart from the hill the location is quite good and there is a bus stop outside the apartment. Staff are very friendly and helpful and we could recommend apts for a weeks break out of high season. If you have walking difficultie make sure you ask for the blocks near reception with the lifts.

Just got back from staying at the playa olid for a 2nd time.....good three star apartments, plenty of room, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, fridge could do with updating, rooms cleaned daily, towels and bedding changed often , a little noisy if you are on the road side, but not to big a problem, two mid sized pools, plenty of sunbeds, would stay here again. Good location, on a slight hill, staff friendly and helpfull. If you want good basic value for money apartments stay at the playa olid......if you want 5 star luxury stay at one of the more expensive hotels or apartments that tenerife has to offer.
