Just back from Playa Olid Apartments having had a fab holiday. Apartments were spotless and very friendly staff on reception. Quiet and relaxing environment. You wouldn't need to travel more than 150 yards if you didn't want to - Supermarket on site, and great eating places only 50-150 yards away including chinese food, pizza, canarian and full english menu. A few pubs also on the doorstep. All in all a great place to stay as well the fantastic weather.

Our stay in Playa Olid was pleasant, no

Location:
The hotel is located just under the highway, so the location is not beautiful by any stretch, but that goes for most budget hotels in Tenerife. The street is relatively busy, but road noise was minimal in our case (there are some appartments closer to the road, but I don't expect this to be an issue either).
A big beach is in walking distance (10 min), so are various (mostly english oriented) places to drink and eat.
I would recommend walking a bit further up along the coastline at least once, where there is a smaller but much nicer beach (at Plaza el Duque). This beach is a bit classier and the view is much nicer.

The room/stay:
The people are helpful but not too involved or overly friendly. It is a quiet place with a relaxed atmosphere. Most visitors during our stay were English (maybe a few Germans here and there), definitely not the party-kind, there were a lot of people in the 35-65 who came there to relax at the beach or pool. There are two pools which are not heated, but in november this was no issue for me. I would not recommend this hotel if you are planning on staying at the pools though, service is limited and the atmosphere is just no that special. With the beach so close I wouldn't really see a reason for that anyway.
We got upgraded from a studio to a "normal" appartment. The room was big and had a lot of storage space, also there was a balcony with a not so nice view, but it was still nice there to sit and eat or drink a bit. The furniture is very basic and the paint on the walls was coming off here and there, I could not say the atmosphere was very good - but it fit with my expectations. There is a bathroom with a reasonable bath (not big but big enough for smaller people). We did notice less warm water twice, but still we had a filled bath almost every day without any issue at all.
Cleanliness was good (although not perfect). My girlfriend is very picky and she would describe it as acceptable. The rooms were cleaned at least every two days, but maybe the skips had to do with us still being there at 10-11. I did notice cleaning was better and more thorough when I tipped the maid 2 euros. If you like your place tip-top I would suggest to do the same.
Nights were relatively quiet, but we did get woken up by small groups of drunk/tipsy people twice. The problem is the rooms don't have AC, so you want to keep your windows open. With the window closed we did not have any noise issues. Our room was situated very low in the complex, I think a room a bit higher would be cooler, and also quieter because the people on the street are further away.

If you get a rental car you can leave it pretty close to the hotel at night, but sometimes it can take a bit of time to find a parking place. Parking is free and our car was not damaged. Two buildings down the street there is a very nice small restaurant, the food was nice and cheap, and they also serve a few local dishes, of which the canarian chicken is a sure recommendation (especially for the price). If you want a lot of clubbing this is not the right place to go, Playa las Americas is a better and also cheaper option than Adeje for this.

All in all I can recommend Playa Olid. Don't expect too much and it will be a good stay for the price. Be sure to also get out of Adeje a bit, rental cars are cheap on Tenerife and the island is beautiful.

I too had read one or two bad reviews about this Hotel but having just spent a week there (7-15 Nov) I would recommend it to anyone as a decent budget Hotel.
Friendly staff, good sized rooms and even British TV in your room if pay a small fee. (i never watched channel 30 though as its a porn channel) Moving on, the location is good with plenty of bars and restaurants a short walk away. I know there have been reports of thing going missing from the rooms, but there are safes in the room big enough to put your lap top in and it only costs 12 euros for the week. So worth it just to be sure.
There is a couple of computers in reception though and internet is only 2 euros for 30 mins.
Pay a visit to the jungle park if you can - 24 euros each but well worth it for a good 3 hours. Watch the live show with the eagles/vultures if you can - brilliant.
A couple of decent sized swimming pools and a small supermarket makes this a good choice if you dont want to spend too much.
e - mail me if you want to know anything in particular about our time there....

We stayed at these apartments and found that they were better than expected having read some of the comments previously on this site.
The rooms were clean and the kitchenette was equipped with Electric Kettle,Toaster,Fridge and a two ring electric hotplate. There was also sufficient utensils to cook a basic meal but nothing more.
We found the beds to be a bit on the firm side for our liking but nevertheless managed to get used to them. There was plenty of storage space for clothes but only half a dozen coat hangers.
We were situated on the top floor of one of the blocks next to the main road and found the traffic noise atrocious, especially from the local buses stopping at the bus stop outside our block. The noise was amplified due to the traffic having to climb the hill on which the apartments are situated. We did not hear much noise from the motorway which was approx 200 metres away from us.
The pool area was pleasant enough with a pool bar and plenty of sunbeds.
The restaurant was closed for refurbishment but there are plenty of reasonably priced places to eat nearby.
In all for the price we paid we couldn't really grumble.
I we were to go there again we would make sure that we were accommodated in one of the low rise apartments facing the skypark area.

The website for Playa Olid does not do it any justice. The apartments are quite large, have a separate bedroom, and a separate bathroom with ceiling to floor tiles, granite sink surround ,and bidet, bath and shower. The living room/ kitchen is large, granite worktops, tiled floors throughout the whole apartment. The entrance hallway into the apartment is also roomy. Loads of storage cubboards, built in wardrobes, and solid pine furniture in all the rooms, including the hall.
We hired a safe for the week, the safes are actually in the apartment, you get the lock and key, which you slide into the safe, which means that no-one except reception knows who has the lock and key, and the lock you get could be in any of the apartments. Your door key is a credit card type, unique to your apartment, not numbered in case you lose it, once inside the apartment, you put the card into a slot in a panel on the wall, and it works your electric and water. We hired a fan for the week, the heat outside was never below 26 degrees at night all week. In the daytime you have to shut the heatproof blinds before you go out, or you come back to an oven, the heat will not go away. If you forget to close them the cleaner will do it, any towels you want changed, you leave in the bath, and they get changed, we forgot to make up the beds one morning, and we came back to find that the cleaner had made them up. We did sometimes forget to lock valuables away, but nothing was ever touched, she kind of overdone the supply of tiolet paper, by the end of the week we had around a dozen rolls! .We hand washed some of our clothes, hung it out on the wall mounted airer at night, and it was dry when we got up in the morning!!
The supermarkets nearest the apartments are too expensive to shop in, around double the price of the shop we found, which is shut on a Sunday. Just turn right out of Playa Olid, up the hill and over the bridge, and you can see the Gran Sur supermarket and McDonalds. The supermarket is right at the end of the clothes shops, down an escalator ramp below ground level, the prices are about the same as the UK, no fags sold, but you get them at a lot of smaller shops around 16 euros for 200 Lambert and Butler, but the price can vary from shop to shop, so look around first. The local shops are about double the price of the Grand Sur, over 3.50 euros for a jar of jam, and 3.25+ for a small loaf !!!! The best place we found to eat in was the Wigan Peir, turn left and down at the bottom of the street, best food we ever found, and a very large plate full, which we could never manage to finish, no matter how tasty. We could not find any fault with our apartment nor the staff, and will definately return for another holiday., both swimming pools are very good.

Booked holiday 2 months before departure and basically wanted something cheap and sunny. Package to Playa Olid fitted the bill at £250 per person self catering for 11 nights. Hotel is ok although because of the time of year a number of facilities were closed (Hotel night club,Hotel restaurant, Hotel bar and 2nd pool bar primarily).
Be Aware, this hotel does not have air-conditioning and they charge you for the hire of a fan which is not cheap (£2 per day per fan). There are a number of reviews on this site so I will deal witth some of the issues they raised.
Security of valuables :- To my mind if you leave stuff out at any hotel it is likely to go missing so if you dont use the safe for valuables, dont be surprised if it goes missing.
Friendliness of staff :- The staff at reception are not overly friendly but are efficient The pool staff though were very good and served drinks with a smile.
Cleanliness :- The hotel itself was clean although its age is starting to show Our sheets were changed regularly as were the towels but the maid service is only 5 days out of 7. Not once during our stay was the floor swept or washed and this is a serious issue to my mind.
If you can get a very cheap deal here and are not fussy about the accomodation then this hotel is ok. If you are paying through the nose then dont stay here. You will be disappointed.

Myself ,my 6yr old son and my friend stayed here from 9th till 16th oct 09.
apartments were ok-we were in the green block - room 320. we arrived at 3am and the room was like a sauna!! no air con or fan.. we had a 1 bed apt.my friend went on the sofa bed which was really squeaky!!-she ended up taking the mattress off the sofa and sleeping on the floor.... the rooms were cleaned 5 days a week-friendly staff and pretty good pool area.-plenty of sun loungers-pool bar was expensive though- 2.50 euro for a lager!
complex was pretty quiet-a lot of empty apartments.just before the english school holidays
the hill on the way up was a pain!!!-especially with a 6yr old in tow.
the place would be ideal for young couples or a mates kinda holiday to use as a base to sleep in but there is nothing for kids ....no restaurant, entertainment or activities...
places to go- siam park-brilliant for all ages!!
aberdeen angus restaurant & wigan pier for eating
moonlight bar at torviscas beach for night entertainment-the new tempations and comedy elvis are brilliant!!!
