“2nd visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013

We have just returned from our 2nd visit to the Costa Adeje Gran after a superb visit the year previously. We stayed half board the year before nothing at all wrong with the food but we like to make our evening eating out which is why we opted to stay on a bed no breakfast basis this time Around. The breakfast always had plenty of variety, from fresh omelettes to smoothies and the usual cooked bacon and sausage etc.

The location of the hotel for us was ideal, we are not a fan of the playa de las Americas area and tis is a completely different location, particularly if you turn right from the hotel down to the del duque shopping centres and beach, the bars are also Much more impressive in that direction. The beach is about a 20 minute walk downhill. We never used the beach, but I do not think it would be the ideal location if you had mobility problems as the way back is quite hilly.

The hotel is clean is clean and spotless, the rooms are very spacious, and both times we had a mountain view which wAs fine for us. Of course the seA view rooms are nice but I don't see he value for money of paying a supplement for the amount of time we use our room. The maid s came in sometimes twice a day. I have to admit the year previously the hotel looked a little more impressive, a lot of the decor is looking tired and there were several leaks in the ceiling of the reception from the swimming pool above.

We only used the rooftop pool both times, just simply because the other pool looked crowded and didn't get as much sun. The rooftop pool was also quieter, and to be honest his was one of the main reasons which made us return to the hotel. We also used the gym, which was basic but suited our needs. We used the spa also which is quite small but the treatments were nice and again was quiet. The hotel operates a policy where you can't reserve the sun beds, plenty of beds there is no reason to have to do this but people still do. It's nice to see the hotel stick by the rules and they do remove the towels, quite amusing to watch people causing a scene when it happens to them.

Only experienced the entertainment a couple of times, the bar was always busy but we prefer to have a walk and experience the local bars, I assume if you we're an all inclusive guest or travelled with children this would be quite enjoyable.

There is free wi if in the rooms and reception which we made use off.

The rooms do have a fridge and we did tend to go to the supermarket and fill this with our own drinks. The supermarket is pretty much next door along with a couple more bars. There is a sports bar and a Chinese next door both which we could highly recommend.

We would definitely recommend this hotel to both couples and families, the area bars and restaurants are very laid back within the vicinity so if you do want nightlife this is probably not the hotel for you.

The hotel doesn't offer any loyalty scene for returning guests , which would have been nice. They didn't even recognise the fact we had stayed before. I don't know if we would visit this hotel again, just because I don't think we would visit tenerife again for a few years but wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Most of the people we spoke to had the hotel recommended to them.

Stayed here with my partner for a week at Easter. Excellent hotel. Rooms spacious and spotless, we had a mountain view room which was lovely. Pool area great and loved the aqua areobics in the morning. The non reserving of beds is great and even though signs are up everywhere stating you can not reserve beds some people still did, but I thouroghly enjoyed the look on these peopes faced when they returned later to find other guest on their beds.
We were on a bed and breakfast but if we go back again would go half board. Brought our own travel kettle tea coffee etc I would recommend you do too if you like a cuppa first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Breakfast was excellent and plenty of staff which we found polite and hard working. The only thing I did not like was the food at the pool side bar not good we ate twice here for lunch and after that went down to Fanabe beach for lunch everyday. Some lovely places down there. At night we ate dinner down there every night and would recommend the Couer de Fillet but would definatly recommend that you book in advance at it a popular spot.
The chinese next door to the hotel is also nice called Slow Boat.
The entertainmen at the hotel was also very good.
Made use of the hairdressers in the hotel one night as a treat.
The day we were departing the hotel was fully booked so we were unable to hold onto to our room as our transport was not picking us up till four but the shower/changing rooms they provide are spotless, spacious and private. Overall a fantastic holiday and would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Try and get a room facing the pool.

I stayed at this hotel with a disabled gentleman I care for in the first week of September 2013, our first impressions of the hotel were impressive. The hotel got us an adapted room, which was we did not think we would get, as there was no availability when we booked. The food was amazing, the choice was vast very night of our stay. The price of the drinks were surprisingly cheap at 3 euros a pint, and half price during happy hour, and the entertainment was good. On to the negatives, we had people next door to us complain nightly to hotel about the gentleman I care for making noise during the night, this is something he cannot help and does not do deliberately. The manageress was on one occasion very snappy with me and remarked that I should not have brought him, if I knew he was like this. This completely ruined our holiday a great deal, I will return to Tenerife, but I don't think we will be welcome at this hotel again.

My family and I visited here in March 2013, Easter holidays. On arrival we were seen to very quickly and offered orange juice or cava. The rooms were a good size, we had to book adjoining rooms as we have 3 children. We were told that these weren't guaranteed but we did get them. The food is fantastic, tonnes of choices and a 'special' on each evening. If you want a glass of wine at dinner, tough, you are getting the bottle! The pools are great and all areas were very clean. The lifts are plentiful and never a long wait. You cannot reserve sunbeds, which I thought was brilliant. If you do your stuff is removed. Nice touch! The entertainment was a bit naff some nights but it wasn't an issue for us. Would go back here again. Ps. Go to Siam Park, it's amazing! Book the VIP villa if you can!

check in quick and efficient

room was spotless, big and comfortable. cleaned daily to high standard.
mini bar was cold.
air con worked well.
plenty of wardrobes, could have done with another set of drawers.

hotel facilities were fantastic, pools, public areas first class.
read a review prior to leaving regarding the pools having rubber linings instead of tiles.
I realised on arrival that this was because of the pools being positioned on a floor above
the reception and bar/entertainment area. Any movement of a tiled pool due to building settlement or earth tremor would have resulted in
the water leaking out on to this area. Another interesting feature, which I didn't notice until our last day was the glass floor in one of the pools over the foyer, but don't get excited, because of the rubber liner you can only see vague shapes from underneath.

the food was first class, we've had a bigger choice, in mexico hotels ,but never as good quality.
the seafood in particular was fantastic, the biggest prawns i've seen with langoustines, full crabs and half lobsters on the paella.
the cheeses were particularly good with cheese i,ve never tried before, Cambazola, yummy.
curry flavour to name but two.
sweets and puddings were exceptional as were the steaks and grilled meats.
Only one hot option in the snack bar, burger one day hot dog next etc,but go in the restaurant,
lunches were great.

drinks were good and plentiful with good selection of cocktails on all inclusive. Check the drinks menu as some drinks carry a supplement!
minimum waiting time for service at all the bars, the waiters are exceptionally quick and efficient.
I advise that you find a chair, sit down, chill out and a waiter will soon be round to take your order, you will often get your drink faster than if you went to the bar.
one small annoyance, low calorie/sugar free drinks was limited to coke light. would have liked sprite light or low calorie tonic due to dietary requirements.
Bottles of wine and beer at lunch and dinner.

never had a problem getting a lounger no matter what time of day even though the hotel was full. The pool supervisor does remove towels from reserved chairs.

didn't have kids with us but the kids club looked like they were having a great time, they even took them for lunch in their own area of the buffet restaurant.

The hotel is BIG. It took two or three days to get used to the quickest way around.

Would return without hesitation.

Room Tip: back rooms have good inland mountain views

We have just returned from a week Bed and Breakfast. We have visited Tenerife on many occasions but never stayed in this hotel! And now we wouldnt stay anywhere else.
The check in was a breeze with a nice glass of bubbly to drink. Our rooms were massive, there was 2 adults and 1 child and there was more than enough for us all. Bathroom was very spacious, 2 sinks and seperate toilet area. We had our towels changed every day and even had lovely bathrobes to wear.

The breakfast was brilliant, even the fuss pots could find something they like! They had someone making fresh pancakes, fresh omlettes, full english and continental, and to top it off you could have champagne with it.

My daughter loved the mini discdo every night at 8.30 and then we sat and watched the night entertainment. A couple of nights we went to The Original Wigan Pier bar, which we loved doing the quiz and the staff are so friendly.

Overall the hotel and holiday was fantastic. That fantastic infact we have booked to go All Inclusive in January 14. Cannot wait to return!!

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the mini golf and we didnt here any noise. We asked for a sea view but wer...

We stayed in this hotel for a week in July after spending the first week of our two week stay in the Colon Guanahani hotel and after reading some of the moaning reviews on here honestly did not know what to expect. From the moment we entered the impressive reception area and were offered champagne whilst checking in we had an absolutely fantastic holiday.

I can understand some of the comments from some reviewers disputing this hotel's 5* status but in all honesty you are not paying 5* prices at this hotel. It would probably cost twice as much to stay at some of the other truly 5* hotels in the area (i.e.Iberostar Anthelia or the Bahia Del Duque) for the same period and it actually cost us more to stay in the 4* Colon Guanahani hotel the week before than it cost to stay here. You get what you pay for and I would honestly rate this as a very good 4* hotel.

I can also understand some of the comments from other reviewers on here as there are some areas of the hotel where the paintwork and plasterwork need a bit of general upkeep and could be better maintained. Having said that we could find nothing else to fault at this hotel.

Due to feat of engineering, the entrance/reception is at -2 floor level, with the large pools directly above it at 0 level so it does take a while to get your bearings and work out how to get round the hotel but turning round corners to find out that you're not actually where you thought you were is all part of the fun.

We booked our holiday late so were unsure what room we would get but were very impressed to find that we had a large room on the top floor overlooking the pool with an amazing sea view thrown in for good measure - couldn't have been happier with that (although we were a bit puzzled on arrival when we ended up traipsing across the roof!). We were also only a 30 second walk to the rooftop pool which was perfect for us and which actually ended up being the only pool we used. Although we didn't use the three downstairs pools they always looked clean, well maintained and never overcrowded although some of the parasols might have seen better days. Again, despite the comments of other reviewers, we saw the 'towel patrol' going round every day removing any unattended towels which had been left on sunbeds before 10am - the indignant faces of the people returning to find all their belongings gone was priceless and made us chuckle every day!

We were booked on a B&B basis as we like to eat out in the evenings so I'm not able to comment on the quality of the evening meals, but as with all hotels of this type if you stay for two weeks you have to expect some repetition of dishes. As for the breakfasts, they were always well cooked and offered a great deal of variety, cereals, fruits, cooked breakfasts, salad, cold meats, cooked to order pancakes, etc etc. It was all fairly relaxed and there was never any mad scramble to get the last bit of bacon as all food was regularly refilled.

Other points to note:-

Location - a bit further out than we would have liked - about 10 minute walk to the Playa del Duque area with lots of bars and restaurants but a 15-20 minute walk to the Puerto Colon marina so may not be ideal for some people (Although there are some very nice horse drawn taxi/carriages that you can get to ferry you around the area so it isn't all bad)

Rooms - Very spacious and cleaned immaculately on a daily basis. Clean towels and robes daily if you wanted and bedsheets could be changed daily as well if you're a particularly dirty sleeper. Large bathroom, double basin and a separate toilet/bidet area - what more could you want??!!

Overall we had a fantastic holiday and would still recommend this hotel to our friends. To those that are moaning, put your hands in your pockets, splash the extra cash and go and stay at the Anthelia! :0)

Room Tip: We asked for a room on a high floor overlooking the pool - Room 580 - right in the middle of the hot...
