The rooms are huge and so is the bed (with a great big mirror immediately behind the headboard) (make of that what you will). Shame our room faced north onto a block of flats and a sometime noisy road. The hotel is up a bit of a hill from the beach, it didn't bother us but it is a bit of a hike back from the beach. There can be some queues at times in or for the restaurant. That's the bad bits. Good bits- The hotel is huge with great pools, a gym, a squash court, 2 tennis courts and a great sun terrace on the roof, where there are 2 good nudist bits( but don't let this put you off going up there as they are well walled off.) The staff were very friendly, nearly all really competent and pleasant One good thing about the location is that it is well placed for the local buses. Value for money is excellent.

Room Tip: I think sea view rooms cost more but the south side might be a better bet than the north Good lifts...

Have just come back from this hotel, 18th Jan., and it was as good as all the reviews said; but why has no one mentioned the FREEZING COLD reception/entertainment area?
Every evening people watched the entertainment and drank at the bar, wrapped up in coats and jackets. It was our first time there but talking to other guests, many of whom came back year after year, it has always been the same. I cannot understand it. This is the only reason why we will not return to this hotel as we like to be comfortable sitting around in the evenings.

This hotel is definately a 4 star. It is well positioned in costa adeje - the hotel is very clean, the food, accommodation, pools and staff are all very good. The only downside we found was the cost of the drinks (usually £6.50 each - spirits/coke or cocktails) so we frequented some of the local restaurants and bars where they were half the price ! The entertainment when we visited was again very good with only one evening when a lady brought along unusual animals and spoke with a squeaky voice - more like a childrens entertainer !! The Three Tenors were exceptional one of best hotel entertainers we have seen - it was like last night at the proms and the hotel foyer was at full capacity . If you like sushi/thai food got to Miishi Sushi Restaurant in the marina - a really great experience. Will definately go back to this hotel.

Room Tip: Had a room on the fourth floor facing apartments next door - nice and peaceful at night

Check in was quick and easy, was given a room on the first floor overlooking the pool. The room is spacious but in need Of updating with the rest of he hotel. The bed is somewhat hard, but after a few drinks you don't notice it so much. No walk in shower, but a shower in the bath. The wc, is separated by a door from the double sinked bathroom. There are plenty of pools for all to enjoy, however the roof top pool is somewhat of a paddling pool.
Sun loungers are plentiful, and I must congratulate the hotel, for a zero tolerance policy on not being able to reserve sun beds.
Food, what can I say, it reminded me of school dinners, everyone queuing up to get food. You could wait at the meat station for up to 5 mins! The food is not of 5 star quality at best 3 star.
Good luck if you can find a seat in the restaurant! You have to wait for a waiter to find you a table, usually this is a nightmare, in fact one time we had to collect our food from he main restaurant and negotiate the crowds to retun to the overspill dining area. Overall even though we dined here 3 times the food was repetitive and not hot as you would expect.
Drinks were a hit and miss. If you were all inclusive there was a menu of what you could have. The branded drinks you had to pay for. This was the same at the pool snack bars. Missed breakfast, went to order a toasted sandwich and was told I had to pay for it as it was not part of all inclusive, however it is free at breakfast! Again there is a separate menu of what you can have at he snack bars.
The service here is very laid back and slow. In fact at times you would think there is not enough staff to cater for the minions. Whey oh do get served its as if you have put he waiter out of his or her way, an it never comes with a smile.
Entertsinment was good however in the evenings. Animation team love themselves too much and can be boisterous but they tend to leave you alone if you ignore them.
Playa fanabe about a 10 min walk have some great bars and restaurants, and due to the poor quality of food and service we tended to spend our evenings there.
If you do choose this hotel, don't go all inclusive and dine out every night. This hotel when it was built was probably "Gran", but not now. Unfortunately I fail to see how other trip advisors can give this a 5 rating, I can only presume they have not stayed in proper 5 star before. Perhaps trip advisor should add a category of "was your rating based on your enjoyment"

This is our 4th time at the Gran, and this time we travelled out on the 28th December for a fortnight. The hotel was full to bursting, and we stayed half board.
As usual we swapped our evening meal for lunch time - we like to go out at night to eat, and teh dining room is really busy. We noticed that lunch was busier this year due to an increase in the all inclusive customer numbers.
The hotel is the same - impressive reception, and a few sopts here and there that could do with a makeover and a lick of paint. New mattresses and televisions in teh rooms, and it looks like they are embarking upon a renovation starting with the suites.
For our first week, we had to put up with a complete ignoramous who seemed to think it was acceptable to play the television very loudly, night and day, early in the morning until late at night. The hotel were very helpful, even going ito the room with a master key and switching it off when it was apparent that he had gone out and left it on. Not the hotel's fault - we were offered a move, but luckily he went home.
No problem with the staff - we found the pleasant and helpful at all times.
We used the roof top sunbathing area as it is quieter with no kids. It seemed very quiet, and the policy of removing towels from sun beds really makes a difference. No reserving means exactly that and rightly so.
There were a lot of Russian guests, as they celebrate Christmas on the 6th January. They are an acquired taste - the fat middle aged guy with a permed mullet sunbathing in a thong nearly had me in tears - not laughter, it just made my eyes burn.
We really enjoyed our holiday - the weather was nice (only one cloudy day), and the hotel is conveniently placed for either Fanabe or Del Duque. However, the 'vibe' of the hotel is changing. There are more all inclusives guests than ever, and some of them bring a different set of expectations and behaviour. This may cause us to rethink another stay here at this time of the year. The all inclusive deal are alos killing the resort - I have never seen the pubs and restaurants so empty. Puerto Colon was like a ghost town.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool have quite a view, but there is some noise.

We booked a double room with sea view and breakfast, we had dinner included for free.
The hotel was very good, spacious and well appointed, the pool areas were well equipped with beds and parasols, if you want to avoid children use the roof top pool, very quiet and relaxing.
We ate breakfast and eveing meal at the hotel on 2 occasions, in our opinion the food was a good standard, lots of choice and well presented, unfortunately we did not like the buffet style way of serving due to the crowds of other guests, so we decided to eat out for the rest of the holiday (just our preference).

The nightly entertainment was very good, the area around the hotel was interesting and nice to stroll around the beautiful shops in El Duque plaza, the beach is approx 10 minute walk.

The hotel was immaculate ans the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Had a lovely stay at the Gran. Couldn`t fault it other than breakfast was hectic to say the least. Lovely clean spacious room with good views. 90% of the bar/dining room staff were very friendly. 2 lads in particular were very nice and new how to treat the punters well. Lovely heated pool and plenty of sun beds. Very good entertainment at night apart from the we will rock you act that was poor. Food was plentiful and of a good standard. Plenty of fresh fish for you. We went all inclusive and for £672 was value for money without question. Got home late last night and all we have done today is think i wish i was still there. 9/10.
