Iberostar Torviscas Playa

My wife & I recently stayed here for a couple of nights in mid-July. We arrived slightly before the 2pm check-in time and found the reception to be busy but with plenty of staff on hand to deal with the people waiting. Whilst we were booking in we were presented with a complimentary drink (non-alcoholic) which was most welcome in the heat. We were given a small folded card with our room number on it containing 2 electronic room cards for our room, which was on the third floor, facing the street. It later found out that you needed the key with you at all times to purchase drinks or snacks at any of the bars as no cash was taken. A receipt is provided at the time of purchase so you can keep a record of how much your bill is going to be when you check out.

The bathroom was well appointed and had a bath tub with shower attachment. There was a liquid soap dispenser over bath. The sundries included tissues, soap, bath hat, make up removal pads, and refresher tissues. The room also had a bath mat, bath towels, hand towels and a hair dryer. However there were no face cloths provided.

Opposite the bathroom was a built in wardrobe with normal hangers, however the main shelf space was taken up by a safe. The room had several table like units with small drawers. On the main table was a small stationary pack but without a pen. The door to the balcony in our room could not be fully locked. It sufficed but if we had been staying longer would have required attention. The balcony had a table, two chairs and a drying rack. There was a partial view of sea.

The dining area is quite large with one serving area divided into sections. Gentlemen are required to wear trousers and a sleeved top (short sleeves are acceptable) for dinner. Once in you choose a table and then a waiter asks you for you drinks choice. We were not given a price list however, the bar area next to reception shows water 2.25€ for 500ml. small beer over 3€ and large beer over 4€. You are not asked to pay cash as the bill is charged to your room.

All meals were buffet style, the hot selection on our first night’s meal consisted of lamb chops, meatballs, carne fiesta, fish and spaghetti bolognaise. There was a good salad and fresh fruit selection.

Breakfast had a good variety again with 6 different cereals, an egg station doing fried eggs and omelettes, scrambled eggs were in dishes near the bacon and sausages. There was a wide selection of bread and rolls as well as various pastries including Danish and croissants. Tea and coffee were brought to your table in a pot. As others have mentioned the fruit juices were reconstituted and tasted it.

We didn’t try the pools but they were never overly crowded. We found a shaded area just up a level from the pool which was free from the sun for most of the day.
We also didn’t experience the entertainment on offer. However, the area has plenty of bars and is a few steps up from the beach. Our favourite was the moonlight bar which is just behind the hotel.

Checking out was a relatively easy affair as again there were plenty of staff at reception. However, you will have a bill to pay (unless you’ve gone AI) for any food or drink you have had from the snack bars etc.

Overall we felt that whilst we enjoyed our short trip, the standard was not as good as other hotels we had stayed at in the area.

A fantastic holiday ,( party of 8 adults all inclusive )
hotel very clean* , pool area and pool cleaned daily* , plenty of sun beds ,parasols and little tables * . ( food ), wonderful, lots of choice in main restaurant * snacks from poolside bar , sandwich's , olives , peanuts ice-cream's hot and cold drinks , slush puppies, water in bottles , branded sprits when asked for (never a problem ) local beer a two minute walk to the beach, through key card gate . All of the staff at this hotel were wonderful , helpful and friendly , from in house staff to management . the entertainment staff worked very hard , the only SLIGHT downside to this hotel is that some of the carpets and furniture could do with replacing , but this should not cloud your thoughts** I would return to this hotel again **

We have just returned from a 7 day holiday in Tenerife, this was our first time in Tenerife, and we went all inclusive as this is easier for the 3 children. The transfer from the airport was approx 1 hour, and we arrived at 9:30pm Sunday, just in time to quickly get some food before the all inclusive buffet ended.

We had originally requested 2 interconnecting rooms, but what we got was a large room with 5 beds squeezed in. I immediately complained, and was given an upgrade to 2 interconnects Superior rooms both with sea view, however we could not have these until the following Tuesday. So we stayed in our large room, it was located on the 1st floor and at night, you could hear the noise from the bar nearby and hotel entertainment, both of which could be heard until 11:30pm. I would not recommend this for families with young children. However once we moved to our sea view rooms which were on the 5th floor, you could barely hear the noise, and it made for a much better nights sleep.

Although I saw maintenance people working, there were quite a few areas that required attention, mostly cosmetic, however, the following is worthy of a mention, the tiling in the swimming pool was a bit rough in places, and we did incur some minor toe injuries, although we could never identify the exact location ( I suspect the stair tiling). In our first bedroom the lock on the bathroom door, was very stiff and on occasion our children were locked in. When we moved rooms, the room door lock also gave some trouble ( which we called maintenance to fix). It does feel as though the hotel does need more maintenance staff just to get on top of things, and a refresh to bring this hotel in line with others. Having said this I was more than happy to stay here (please see my comments at the end of this review)

Just a mention on the pool, it is mostly 1.4M throughout, which was a challenge with 3 kids (8, 9, 10), the baby pool was 0.4m, this hotel really needs to provide an area of about 1m to allow the children to enjoy it at its most. I would recommend that for children who are not already confident swimmers/ able to tread water, that arm bands are a requirement.

The staff throughout our stay were very helpful indeed, special mention to Erika and Borja(?) in the dining room, both of whom demonstrated great customer service always with a smile.

The food was generally of a good standard, but meat/fish was sometimes a bit overcooked and dry for my liking and there was quite a bit of repetition. The kids always found something they enjoyed, and loved the ice cream selection for dessert (which they used several times a sitting)

We were all inclusive, and in a lot of resorts, this would appear to be quite limited, but here, you can generally get everything (there is of course some extra's). During the day, we enjoyed all inclusive ice creams, drinks etc.

We found the staff very helpful, the hotel was fine for our needs, and we would stay here again, but I would book superior rooms, on the 5th floor...

Room Tip: 5th Floor and above, sea view.

My family and I enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was the first time we had gone all inclusive. I would recommend it just so you don't have to worry about your bill at the end of the holiday. Everything gets charged to your room, the bars and restaurant do not accept any cards or cash. We had inter-connecting rooms on the third floor over-looking the road. This meant that we didn't get a full nights sleep as there are a couple of bars there and a lap dancing club. On inspection of our balcony door it didn't close that tightly so more noise could come into the room. The decor is dated but we didn't have any wallpaper peeling off and we didn't see any cockroaches. The taps in the bath had a lot of plaster around them, so they must come loose quite often. Also the shower water temperature changed a lot. There were no working electrical points in our room so I had to use the ones in my children's room. The restaurant was excellent. Breakfast, lunch and dinner had lots of choice and it was cooked fresh. Our waitress Angelina Jolie as she liked to call herself was fantastic. Always happy and very good at her job. She had lots of happy customers. Infact all the staff were excellent. Special praise must go to the Animation Staff especially the Mini and Maxi club staff. My children had a wonderful holiday because of those people. Juanne, Anne, Lisa and Christina greeted us everyday with big beaming smiles and hugs. Dani, Andi, Mario, Rabih and Martina were fantastic and enthusiastic. Sorry if I've missed anyone out. My children especially liked the foam party. The pool was clean and big enough for everyone. Plenty of sunbeds before 10am. Summary- the staff are the best thing about this hotel, rooms could be updated. Food was excellent. Pool was very good. Children's clubs are brilliant.

It was my first time in Tenerife and this hotel was in a great place on this island and we had a fantastic view of the sea from our room. The room and the rest of the hotel was always very clean. All of the staff at the hotel are very friendly and inviting.
Animation team are really friendly including Andi, Dani, and Mario. there is a mini club for the younger children and a maxi club for the slightly older children. There is even a teen club for teenagers to join in with fun activities such as rifle shooting and water volleyball and going down to the beach to play games lead by the fantastic Andi. There is also other activities around the hotel that adults can join in with from water polo to yoga.
Overall this hotel was fantastic and one which I would recommend especially for families.

We returned from our 10 day holiday at Torviscas Playa on Saturday, our first time in Tenerife. My husband and I were both impressed with the overall cleanliness of the hotel, the friendliness of the staff and the great choice and standard of the food. If you look closely yes there are some improvements cosmetically that could be made, but our room was very clean, beds changed and cleaned daily they even changed the shower curtain. All around the hotel they were cleaning and sweeping up all day, inside and out. We loved the location just out of the back gate down the steps and you're on the beach, which was more interesting than lazing around the pool, although we did for a couple of days, but the beach was much more fun, watching the waves coming in, I must say that there were some rather large waves and the sea came right up to the sunbeds on the beach.......great fun watching everyone diving into the waves, I got caught in 1 as I was trying to get out of the sea.....but it got me! So just be careful especially if you have young children or if you're not a strong swimmer, the under current was very strong. The beds on the beach with an umbrella were 15 Euro's as day (5 euro's each) but you could just have the sunbeds without the umbrella's so that would be 10 Euro's, a little expensive hence that's probably why a lot of people stay by the pools at their hotels, but we like the beach so that was our daily treat! Watch out for the men selling melon, pineapple, coconuts etc on the beach, I got caught out once never again 6 euro's for half a melon! also the lucky lucky men can get on your nerves a bit trying to sell you sunglasses and bags but they're friendly at least. Another thing to look out for were 'hotel promoters' trying to promote hotels in the area to 'British' people, they pounce on you from under tree's before you know it you're answering questions, then they tell you you've won a prize, but you have to go with them to the Information centre and spend half your day being talked into booking next years holiday, when you should be being left alone to enjoy the holiday that you're already on! But if you should say 'No' to them, which they won't take as an answer, then watch out for them the next day being rude and verbally abusive to you as you try and get on with your holiday!! Sounds like a lot of moaning, but it's not just want to warn people. Overall we had a great holiday in a great hotel and in a great location! Would recommend First and last pub on the seafront they do a nightly quiz and have tribute acts as does the Moonlight pub just at the back of the Torviscas Playa, we didn't really stay at the hotel in the evenings but heard that the entertainment wasn't too good, but I can't really comment on that as we went out and about exploring the area of Costa Adeje! Would definitely return to this hotel sometime in the future.
