“Modern hotel in a superb location”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

I stayed here for 1 week in December. I was allocated a room on the 1st floor, bit of a relief not having to rely on a lift. The room was very spacious with a huge double bed, flat screen tv with channels such as ch4, ITV etc. There was a fridge but you had to pay for this, which is pretty poor, as I have stayed in lower quality hotels where this is free. Room cleaning was very good and they come round again at night offering fresh towels, as well as giving you delicious chocolates each night. There is also free wifi within the communal areas of the hotel.

Pool area was fabulous. 1 very large pool and another pool that is heated in winter. Plenty of sunbathing areas which was fab as our entire week was approx 22 degrees each day. There are also large padded chill out beds that you can use day and night, and the fact that the hotel is adult only makes it even better.

Food - breakfast was excellent (especially the omelettes). Dinner was also pretty good with a large variety, however the only downside to dinner is that you are given a specific time (which you can change, if you like). I thought this would make the process a lot easier and quicker but it was quite the opposite. There was a large queue at the door each night and you have to wait till the waiter seats you, which can take a while.

One point to mention - Outside of the bungalows/pool area needs to be paid a bit more attention, ie the leaves need swept up and I also encountered a plate with onion rings that lay there for 2 days before they were lifted!

I would stay at this hotel again. Child free, great location and relaxing.

Just back yesterday after 9 days and as someone who knows the area and hotels well I can compare it with many in the area.
First the room points. The location is great and right on the beach front so a sea view is a must. I was on floor 7 and the outlook and sound from the sea was great. The room was spacious, clean and the big bed and pillow choice was good. Toilet was shabby though. Also there is rediculously no drawer space at all. The fridge has to be paid for and nowadays this is petty.
Pool areas are good although the priviledge reservation area is a nonsense. Only 1 or the 3 pools heated so can't go in 2 pools which are too cold. Sun beds are good and plently of them.
The food is a problem with the dining room overcrowded, always cold food (sometimes even uncooked) and frankly chaos getting your plate stocked. Food quality also poor. Staff are great though and the food stocking girls are working flat out but they can't keep up and there is often a wait as food runs out and cannot be refilled.
They give you a time to turn up so the room is too small to cope and when stock has run out only half an hour after opening there is a serious problem which they cannot address adequately.
Entertainment is ok but more geared to the older clients and glad I was not staying over Xmas because the only way you were being allowed to get a seat in the entertainment was if you pre-agreed to buy an overpriced bottle of Cava at 26 euro. Spoke to 2 couples who were non drinkers and they were refused guaranteed entry tickets.
We went with Thomson who are usually good but this hotel has Jess who is the poorest rep I have come across for years - doesn't want to know.
Would we go back to this hotel, I have to say no because of the poor food but it is always a risk when a big hotel chain. We go to Spain 4 times a year and always better with a family hotel or a small group.
There was talk around the hotel that the priviledge system was not working and it might be stopped. That would be a good thing for the hotel I think.
Also spoke to a number of people who had to move rooms after they were given not what they said they ordered and this is a problem is many Spanish hotels where they do this to get the poorer rooms occupied.
Overall it is an average hotel but could be so much better if they get the food sorted.

Room Tip: Pay for a sea view, don't accept a side room, go for a high floor, forget the priviledge unless...

We were really looking forward to this hotel after reading the reviews, well I have to say we r so disappointed it is nothing like we expected. I emailed the hotel on a few occasions before hand and requested a room on a higher floor, we arrived and went to our which is a floor below the reception!!!!!! We paid for full board and we go for lunch at 12.45 when the dining room is meant to open, they are never ready for you on quite a few occasions we have had to wait up to 10minutes before someone even appears at the cooking station, it is the same in the morning if you want an omelet by the time u get it the tea and toast is cold. I went to the toilet beside the dining room before midday and they had the food out on display and they don't open till 12.45 so it is no wonder the food is always cold. The choices they give for lunch is very poor u can have chicken at the cooking station one day and pork the next day then it goes back to chicken then pork they r tasteless and I really hate to say it is like rubber. One thing I can not get away with is the fact that you have to pay for juice and water in the dining room I have never been to a hotel where they don't supply at least water in the dining room. We were given an 8pm evening meal time which is a nightmare the dining room is like a cattle market. Us british should really take a page from the Germans and Italians as they are the only ones that seem to get anywhere by pushing in front of u and jumping the Q. We still have another week to go and i cannot see it improving as the hotel is a lot busier than it was on our first week. But hey hoo u live and learn. We will defo be sticking to the 5 star hotels in the Caribbean where you really do get value for your money, this hotel cost us the same as we would normally pay for a 5star in the Caribbean which is all inclusive. So we know where we will be spending our £££s ..... On the plus side the reception staff very friendly

Just returned from my third stay at the Tinerfe. It has been five years since our last stay and we were hugely impressed. The hotel has had some fantastic improvements since our last visit and so this made our stay much more pleasant. We had considered staying at a cheaper hotel, but we were SO pleased to have made the choice at the Tinerfe.

We were initially given a ground floor apartment (P41) which we didn’t like due to the view which was a green wall! However we were moved the following day with no hassle. The reception staff were always extremely helpful and friendly.

There were tonnes of big sun loungers around the hotel pools which was really nice and we moved around a lot depending on how windy the days were as some areas were particularly windy at times. The Thomson rep told us not to leave towels on the sunbeds before 10:00am but this still did happen so we occasionally had to move elsewhere, but not a huge issue.

The food was if I am honest not the nicest this time. On a scale of 5 I would give the food a 3, not great for a four star hotel. I do appreciate that they cater for numerous nationalities and food is different, but the actual quality of some food was quite average in my opinion. However the salads and desserts were lovely. The bacon for breakfast was pretty awful and some of the meats were not great. However there was always a lot to choose from so just a minor thing really.

The hotel is cashless so when you order drinks for your evening meal you need to remember to pay daily unless you are happy to get a big bill at the end of the week. We paid daily and so didn’t have a bill at the end!

We paid €10 for a fridge for the week and asked for a kettle which was replenished (not every day though). We saved tonnes of money by using the fridge for drinks and beers.

One evening we ordered a jug of Sangria and were charged €6 for room service even though we asked at reception for this so could have happily taken it up ourselves. Nonetheless not a huge deal again.

The entertainment was in my opinion very poor certainly for my age group (late 30s). the entertainment on an evening was definitely aimed at the older generation and one evening we went to the bar area to try and enjoy the entertainment but we lasted just 15 minutes and were bored rigid! Maybe in summer the entertainment is livelier, but certainly not in winter. On the whole we felt the hotel caters towards the older generation. However there is enough entertainment in the area outside fo the hotel to go enjoy, so it was more a disappointment than a problem as we would have loved to stay in to enjoy the hotel’s entertainment.

We considered using the Privilege service at the hotel, but the website didn’t clarify the difference between privilege and superior privilege and apparently there is a difference. For the cost €26 per person per day we felt it wasn’t worth it as we were already enjoying the privilege of staying at the hotel. If you are considering using the Privilege service I recommend you check out it out first as it is a lot of money for potentially very little if there are two levels. We are pleased we chose not to use this service for us, but others speak highly of it, so personal choice I guess.

It would be easy to be nit-picky about small things which are not perfect, but truthfully we had an excellent time in the hotel and in Las Americas. We stayed here 5 years ago on honeymoon and this time had a wedding blessing on the beach outside the hotel which was really special. We do love this hotel and though I am not 100% certain I would stay again due to the age group that I felt it caters towards, I would highly recommend this hotel to people considering staying there. It is immaculately clean, fresh, pleasant, great facilities and friendly helpful staff. I first stayed here almost 30 years ago as a child so it is very special to me and probably always will be.

The Hotel Gran Tinerfe is a credit to H10 hotels and definitely one of the best in the area for sure! Thank you for another lovely week!

Return visit to this hotel after enjoying our 1st in Feb'13, We enjoyed our break but the hotel in general was not as good, we were not impressed to find that the so called "privilege" package now includes a section of the heated pool sun bed area. so if you want to be in the best spot you now have to pay extra to sit in the sun & also the hotel rule of not reserving sunbeds before 10am was not adered to (o.k they were mostly German)the hotel turned a blind eye to this. The outdoor restaurant has also been made mostly "privilege" use. Thomsons failed to notify these changes & they are not on the hotel website. The food is good but they appear to have reduced the quality of the main course selection. Has it is half board dont pay for mid-day lunch, go out to the local restaurants. small beer in hotel is 3;50 euros/ local bar 1 euro for a pint. The hotel is looking a bit tired in places, & the smoking issue mention by other reviews is a problem in most outdoor area's,there should be a smoking area . A trip to Loro Parque is well worth it if you like animals(1:25hrs by bus). If you were planning to visit mount Teide the cable car is broken & may be for some time due to storm damage.Siam park is 12mins walk from the hotel.

Room Tip: Pay extra!! & insist upon check-in you get what you booked. A high floor (5 & above).

My wife and I stayed at this hotel at the end of November for two weeks. We had asked for a room on a low floor with a sea view and were pleasantly surprised to get exactly that. The staff at the hotel are very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were cleaned daily and the towels changed. The food in the restaurant was nice with a good choice, although it was at times warm rather than hot. The hotel is in a quiet area with a few bars just a few minutes walk away, so we only had two nights in at the hotel where the entertainment seemed to be aimed mainly at older people. But if you want a nice quiet break this is a good place to go with plenty of sunbeds and a nice pool area, and if you like to walk playa de las Americas is about 20 minutes away with a good choice of shops, bars and restaurants

Spent 2 weeks here from 6th December. It is a lovely hotel but we noticed that it has gone a bit shabby since our last visit 2 years ago. The food in the restaurant was nice but very repetitious, the restaurant staff were lovely but some of the reception staff were not very friendly and took their time to see to you. Complimentary Wi Fi was available but I could only connect when I was at the pool area and speaking of pool area it is really lovely with a choice if 3 pools, one if which is heated.

Room Tip: If you get room 230 there is a constant noise like a generator running, it's not loud but it is...
