“Immaculate Hotel, lovely family holiday”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

I have just returned from 7 nights at El Duque Aparthotel with my husband and 2 children and can only express praise for this Hotel. I am very very surprised at some other reviews stating that this hotel is not worthy of 3 stars! I'm not sure what others expectations are but mine were met and well beyond. Cleanliness is obviously the aim here. It is immaculately kept. Maid service daily, floors and balcony/terrace mopped daily, bathroom cleaned, sides wiped, beds maid and the grounds are attended to throughout the day. U will not see a piece of litter etc in sight! Hotel/waiter staff always friendly, smily, helpful and chatty.
Our room was in F block overlooking the main pool and views out to sea - beautiful views, modern decor, clean & comfortable. Large balcony housing a patio table, 2 chairs, 2 sun beds & a parasol.
Pool area so clean and in our experience did not struggle for sun beds. They are locked away until the pool opens at 10am. We spent some time at the beach am and managed to get beds in the afternoon, maybe busier high season but in September this wasn't a problem.
Food is quite repetitive having said that, traveling with 3 fussy eaters everyone ate plenty every meal time. Restaurant is modern and clean, tables cleared instantly etc.
Beach is a 10-15 min walk (Playa El Duque) downhill, up back. Prestige plaza del duque shopping mall is down there too. Quiet nightlife, very low key, so if you're looking for lively this isn't the place. Hotel entertainment wasn't brilliant, parrot show one night but did really enjoy singer Pablo Santiago!
The only small criticism I would have is that this isn't "All Inclusive as I know it" breakfast is 7-10 lunch 1-3 dinner 6.30-9.30 there is a pool bar with drinks available all day but snacks are at extra cost eg burgers, nuggets hot dogs for kids and had to be purchased from reception then ticket taken to pool bar which is a palaver and annoying to pay extra. When I've travelled all inclusive before everything is included. Also bar staff give drinks where as before, they've been available for self service at pumps (this is the case in the restaurant at meal times tho, u can help yourself) but I should Imagine in high season that not being able to help yourself causes queues at pool bar. Not an issue in sept tho. We were never hungry it just meant at lunch time u would need to get out pool and allow time to dry off because u had to go to restaurant to eat rather than just being able to sit at pool bar during day and eat as we've done on other all inclusive holidays.
Overall, I'd summarise this hotel as clean, tidy, modern and friendly, would recommend to families and is in a good location. I'd definitely return.

We booked this hotel due to the location and also it's appearance in the brochure/internet, well it was totally misleading! The first room we were given, had door knobs hanging off the wardrobes, curtains not completely attached to the rail and in general very worn and tired. We immediately went back to reception and asked for another room, we were given room I207, this was slightly better but still very worn and a bathroom that had very dirty grout in both floor and wall tiles and a bathroom that had seen better days. The room did not have any aircon, just a ceiling fan that was so noisy when turned on that it needed to go off immediately, as it was so hot at night we tried sleeping with the door open, well this was impossible due to the noise outside. The food was mediocre and very repetitive and no afternoon pastries and snacks as in the brochure, no theme nights as stated in the brochure and watered down drinks served by mainly very rude staff, especially Jessel, however Carlos was friendly. The entertainment was basic, very below standard. In the end we ate out and bought our own drinks outside the complex, so all in all this hotel is best avoided.

Just got back from 7 days with my boyfriend at this hotel. As we arrived at midnight there was no where open to get a drink or anything to eat, luckily we had a few snacks and a bottle of water waiting for us in our room. We stayed in room A104 which overlooked the small pool. Overall a lovely room although there is a little hole in the skirting boards under the cupboard where we noticed a cockroach running into it and another in our bedroom, although this was on our last day and we found it quite funny. The location isn't the best and is about a 10 minute walk to the beach (downhill on the way, uphill on the way back). There isn't many lively bars close by, there are a few by the beach but not very lively and quite expensive. The food was nice and being a fussy eater I still managed to find a plateful at every meal time. The entertainment wasn't great but still watched and laughed along. The staff are friendly and speak good English. Sunbeds were not a problem, the big pool looked busy so we just stuck to the smaller pool which was lovely but VERY cold! I can highly recommend visiting Loro Park and Siam Park, two fantastic days out! Loro park is a zoo with dolphin, killer whale & sealion shows which are amazing. Food is reasonably priced too. Siam park is the water park with about 9 big slides and a wave pool. (Make sure you go on tower of power, people told us it was an hour wait but at about 3pm in the day we walked straight to the top.) Overall a lovely holiday and would consider coming back.

Room Tip: Majority of ground floors seemed to have aircon and longer balconys, A101 over looks the small pool.

Nice hotel with lovely huge clean pools which are well maintained, we spent many a happy hour by the pool, but you may struggle to find sunbeds in high season . The staff were helpful and multi -lingual. The rooms were lovely and big, maid came in every day. Unfortunately our rooms did not have air con only a fan in living room, we obtained large fans from the local supermarket. Unable to comment on food or drink because we were self catering and would have had to set up a tab to buy food or drink. Hotel is in a good location not too far from beach or shops. Highly recommend Siam park which is only 10 mins away by car and Loro parque in the north is fantastic too. Volcano is a must see too approx 1 hour away by car. All in all a great value family holiday.

The hotel overall was pleasant, clean and has friendly staff memebers. The food was very good for a 3 star hotel, I was there for 10 days the lunches and dinners didn't become to repetitive either, breakfast is the same every morning. There was a few disappointments about the place:
1) If you are looking for a hotel with lively pool entertainment to keep kids and adults busy for example pool games etc then this hotel wouldn't be the one to visit. The only day activity they had was aqua aeroics or Zumba with a weekly game of water polo, they do have kids club however I am not sure how many times a week this ran but I don't remeber it being everyday. They do have music that plays at the pool bar but its not very loud and gets very repetative.
2) The rooms on top floor I Block and bottom floor of F Block dont have air con, so as you can imagine it gets very hot at night. They do have a fan on the ceiling but our one was nowhere near our bed so in fact was useless and made a noise all night. If like us and your on the top floor of the blocks you can keep all windows open as we had no cockroaches or any other insects come in and by doing this kept us a bit cooler. You can hire a fan from reception which costs I think 25 euros, you need to let reception know ASAP as far as I am aware they need to order it in.
3) Sunbeds can be a pain to get hold off if your not there before 10am to get one. They lock all sunbeds away at night and open them around 9.30/10am. People do still reserve them by putting their towels ontop. We went to this hotel end of August/Sept and by the beginning of Sept sunbeds were a little more easier to get hold off but still didn't take any chances.
4) The location of the hotel states that its close to bars and the beach, however for me this wasn't the case the El Duque beach is a good 5/10 mins walk away and is the nicest beach. You can walk down to bars near the beach in the evening but they didn't seem to busy or very lively. If you are looking for these types of bars then I would suggest you get in a taxi which is right outside the hotel and take you down to the San Eugine centre as there are plenty of bars around there with a good atmosphere. The best bar to go to for great live acts and karaoke and is suitable for all the family would be Moonlight bar.
5) The pool bar at the main pool was the only bar open as the quiter pool one was closed as I think work was being done. The bar doesnt open until 11am and on some occasions they had help yourself tea/coffee and fruit juices in case you have an early breakfast, but it wasnt always there and had to wait for the bar to open, which at times was a pain especially when its so hot.
There is a market that happens right outside the hotel on Thursdays and Saturdays, we went to both and each day was different and the best one to go to is the Thursday one as there is more stalls.
The Siam Park is brilliant you can get the tickets right outside the hotel on the day, with a free bus to the park outside the hotel also.
Overall I don't think I would visit this hotel again but would go back to the area.

Stayed at el duque for 10 nights a/l 3 adults and a 2 year old...the hotel has beautiful surroundings and is so clean. Pool is lovely but if you want a sunbed be ready and waiting by them by 10am. Lots of sunbeds need replacing.
We stopped in block a it was a superior room with air con. Again very clean and spacious, there was repairs happening next door which was very loud especially when trying to get my 2 year old to have a nap we
Would of appreciated being told about this, we received a plate of fruit once we raised the issue. .
The mattresses were quite comfortable but the make up sofa bed was really hard and not a bit comfortable. .Over all the room was lovely..
most staff were really friendly especially maids waiters and bar staff. . Reception staff could do to smile more..
Food was basic, breakfast was really good lots of choice, the omelettes are a must!!! Id say for 3* it was really good..
Entertainment was varied and good. Entertainment guy works really hard, there's not enough tables at night though get there early to get a seat..
This hotel is brilliant for a 3* don't expect the ritz and you'll be happy.

Nothing at all to do with the hotel just a warning, walking home with my mum (2 women) I got robbed the man came from behind and snatched my bag. . It was 1 o clock in the morning but in a well lit area right near a hotel. Please be cautious. ..

I have just spent two weeks here with my boyfriend and although we had a great time, it was not down to the hotel. We were placed on the ground floor of H facing the restaurant, although we had asked not to be put on the ground floor. As we were facing the restaurant, we had no privacy and spent the first few days with the curtains shut. We also had a problem with ants and cockroaches in our room. The hotel staff were very helpful and moved us to a different room. We were moved on our 4th day to I206 which faced the sea and was a lot cleaner. As we were self catering we did not eat on site and were glad of this after seeing cockroaches. If you are self catering there are a lot of nice restaurants by the beach and next to the hotel is a very nice chinese. During our holiday we only spent 2 days by the pool and joined in the fight for sunbeds. This ruined the start of the day and it is ridiculous how many beds families reserve for small children that do not use them. We even had an issue with a German family that tried to take one of our sunbeds when our stuff was on it and we were stood next to it. The beach is not far, around a 10 minute walk and this is where we spent most of our time. There is a small hill to walk down to the beach which may be a tad steep if you have walking difficulties. Overall, the hotel is average and the lack of air conditioning did affect our sleep. We would not stay here again, only because there are a lot nicer hotels which are closer to the beach.

Room Tip: I block on the top floor faces the sea. H010 faces the restaurant and has cockroaches.
