Just returned, stayed over New Year and have to say was a bit worried reading some reviews. I don't understand what is wrong with this hotel, our room had a sea view and was on the 5th Floor and had a double bed and children's single, tv and fridge and all had been modernised, the room was cleaned every day, the staff were all pleasant and friendly. The food, yes if you eat in the same place breakfast, lunch and dinner will be a bit repetitive, the food was good and there was always something to eat. The entertainment was good, the entertainment team worked hard and looked after the kids as well as adults.

The hotel is in a great location, not far from the beach and there are loads of places to eat and bars to drink. We walked into Playa de las Americas which takes about 20 minutes and is a nice walk.

Overall a very good all round hotel.

Room Tip: Go for higher floor for better view

Just returned from a stay at the Luabay, although the hotel was very clean and the staff very helpful that is the only positive comment I can make. The entertained was boring and there was nothing on after 10.30, we were all inclusive but went out of the hotel at night. The food was very repetitive and over cooked. Not an hotel we would recommend certainly not a platinum hotel.

We stayed at Luabay over the Christmas and New Year period. The staff were very friendly and courteous. The rooms were clean. The food was very good and the selection great. Christmas Day and New Year's Day banquets were excellent. The entertainment was good fun and the entertainment staff tried really hard to motivate people. The only negative was there were not always enough seats for everyone in the evening so you could watch/listen to the entertainment. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Keep up the good work Luabay!

Hotel at first glance is very impressive as was the pool areas, but rooms are very basic, no chair or table in room, and no tea/coffee facilities, in our case no hangers either..Hotel staff work extremely hard and hotel is spotless. Stayed from 19th December to 2nd January - On Christmas night had to go out as there were no seats available. Pool side furniture is all you sit on in bar / concert area. The seating in Reception/lounge area was so huge it took up too much space and there was not enough of it. Christmas and New Year gala dinner very good but on New Years Eve Entertainment turned into absolute chaos, there was to have been fireworks at 11.30 and hot chocolate and soup at poolside at 1.00 am - these did not appear at all, by the time we realised this we missed all fireworks at the sea front as well.

Luabay is a hotel in a great location and close to the beach and I love going there BUT this time my holiday was off to a bad start when on arrival in Tenerife my suitcase was wheel-less. Iberia was not interested but reluctantly gave me a report of the incident. Transfer was delayed. Arriving late at the Luabay hotel neither the hotel staff nor the Thompson reps recognised that I am a returning guest for the fifth time. Having mentioned this to the reception staff I eventually received the complimentary robe days later. In general the Hotel is comfortable but has changed for the worse since Esmerelda days. Then the warm glow of yellows and gold awaited you. Now all is a cool grey and blue. The dining area is a noisy, hectic and overly efficient canteen. The management expect diners to dress-up in the evening but what for? No atmosphere, no candles, no dimmed lighting. The elevators are still slow and unpredictable. Wi-fi is expensive and hiring a the key to a safe is not cheap either.
The entertainment is frankly boring and the amplification is several decibels too loud and can do without the irritating, overly enthusiastic and raspy voice of the Entertainment host.
Sadly the two Thompson reps at the hotel were frankly unhelpful, uninterested and very inexperienced in dealing with any other issues like the damaged luggage, than with selling outings. Eventually I received a handwritten card assuring me that on my return to the UK someone from Thompson will give me a hand. That never happened. Neither at the hotel, at the coach nor at the airports. One also had to find a board tucked away in the lobby area to look up the transfer arrangements instead of receiving the customary note in your hotel room. Poor Thompson rep service.
Meanwhile one morning after breakfast I returned to my room to discover that my sun hat and designer sunglasses had disappeared. I reported this to Thompson reps and the management of Luabay Hotel with their usual fob-off comment to comeback in a hour and deemed with broken Spanish and hand gestures from the cleaner that my items were thrown away!! She offered me another sunhat as replacement from her cupboard?! No sunglasses unfortunately. No apologies or explanation or compensation from the hotel. Theft is theft!!!

I am not happy with Thompson's lack of support on this Platinum costly all-inclusive Holiday, the damage to my luggage and the theft from my room. Fellow travellers beware!

Shame on you Thompson and Luabay Hotel.

Stayed here from 24 dec till 31 dec, The rooms were spotless as were the pool areas, yes the rooms were quite small but you only sleep in them, and the shower does leak all over the floor. We were all inclusive but only ate breakfast as we didn't like the rest of the food on offer, the drinks were ok but you could only get half glasses. We didn't see a lot of the entertainment as we prefer to go out, what we saw was ok it finished by 10.30 and that was that.Would i return to this hotel NO it's nowhere near a platinum hotel, just a normal 3*. If you look at the review below entitled be warned, i would totally agree with that.

Avoid this hotel at all costs – it is simply a machine for the extraction of money from its guests. Everything is chargeable – for example WiFi is charged, although most of the local bars and cafes offer free Wifi connection; safe deposit boxes carry a charge; a €30 deposit is charged for the use of poolside towels; anyone on half board is not allowed a glass of water from the drinks dispenser with their evening meal, but are required to pay a €2 euro charge for a 250ml bottle of water while the wine supplied for all inclusive guests would be best used for unblocking drains. Or possibly as a paint stripper.

The three lifts in the hotel frequently have one lift inoperable. When the lifts are working they appear to be operated by witchcraft – moving up when they should move down and vice versa and frequently stopping at floors where no guests are waiting. In addition they regularly put on an entertaining display of repeated door opening and closing of their own accord instead of actually transporting guests to and from their required floors.

There are no landscaped gardens in the grounds, while the swimming pools are too small and overcrowded with sun loungers in the poolside areas. The food served at mealtimes is uninspiring, repetitive and bland. This hotel is billed as a four star, Thomsons Platinum establishment whereas in actual fact it barely meets the standards expected of a three star institution. Thomsons – you need to take note and take action here.

Reporting of shortcomings and complaints to the management will be categorically ignored, including the rude and indifferent attitude of several members of staff serving in the restaurant area – which during mealtimes resembles a cross between a construction site canteen and a Hi-de Hi themed dining hall. I have no doubt that the hotel management will post their usual meaningless and anodyne gibberish in response to the points made in this comment - as may be seen from their responses to other criticisms made of the hotel.

Thomsons – this hotel should be removed from your brochures if only to safeguard yourselves against claims of false representation in your description of this hotel and its facilities.

You have been warned.
