“Wonderful time”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

We spent a week at this hotel in december 2013 and had a wonderful time. The weather was really good (only one cloudy day out of seven), we liked the hotel and did not want to leave our holiday.

We always travelled to five star hotels for our summer holidays but as we found the five star hotel we know in tenerife (Roca Nivaria) a bit expensive, we decided to try something else. I have to say that I was scared before going as some reviews were pretty bad. But your holidays are what you make of them... And this hotel is good.

The Pros are:

Beautiful gardens (cleverly designed)
Very clean and well maintained gardens and pool areas
Beautiful views
Nice pools
Lovely staff
Good size rooms and balconies
Kid's pool next to playground and mini club
Nice food (lovely meat and fish, delicious mushroom risotto!)
Nice location (5 min from playa del duque, less than 4 euros with a taxi)
Good value for money

The Cons are:

No a la carte restaurants
No terrace in the restaurant - which means breakfast and dinner inside every day :-(
Small lobby area
Buffet smaller than expected
No buffet for children
Pool for children is not heated and was freezing cold!!! (Only top pool heated)
Dated bathrooms
Draughts in the hotel as all the corridors are open
Safe is 2euros/day

Despite the Cons, we had a wonderful time and would go back again :-)

Room Tip: We were in room 701. It was nice and quiet (top floor and at the end of the corridor). Amazing views...

Great location in the smarter area of player del Duque. The hotel is spread over many levels but if you don't like steps there are lifts. Although from the lower pool area to the reception area you do have to take two separate lifts. The room we had 751 was a double with sea view and was a good size although a little featureless and tiered. The rooms have a small fridge and safe, although you have to pay for the safe. Food at the buffet restaurant seamed to suit most guests although the majority were not British. I found the variety poor and repetitive, service in the restaurant was pretty poor for instance only one chef at breakfast cooking fried eggs and omelettes too order at the same time an impossible task for around 800 dinners. The same at lunch for fish and steaks etc at the evening meal. We only saw a maximum of eight staff in the restaurant at at any time including chef. If there was a dress code for the restaurant in the evening it didn't apply ie plenty of men in shorts and flip flops. Overall the Hotel seemed to be very understaffed in the areas were you required service. So expect to Que at the bar at night. The pool areas are good with plenty of beds however the towel on bed reserving regime is alive and well here despite hotel rules, the lower pool area is spacious and the pool bar is great for snacks and drinks throughout the day. The top pool area that I understood to be for adults only was always full of children it seemed all the hotel rules were disregarded throughout our stay. The Hotel generally appeared to have been a genuine four star hotel when new and was I am sure very nice at that time. Whilst it still has all the facilities of a four star hotel the quality is not quite there and the overall feel is that it's a little overdue a refurb and in my opinion is overrated for the price. The hotel is pretty average so don't expect any touches of four star service that you get at home. Having said all that we had a good stay and again the location is nice and peaceful not at all like down the road playa las Americas. Yes I would visit again if the price was right.

Room Tip: Room 751 was a good sea view room, although other family members had rooms 738 and 737 both had good...

We stayed at the Melia Jardines del Teide for 2 weeks from the end of aug through to the 1st week in sept. The hotel its self is really great it has everything you really need, not too big but the quality of everything for what you pay is a bargain to be honest.

Location;
On top of the hill below the mountain overlooking the south of Tenerife holds some amazing views day and night,Around this area there are alot of mainly 5 star hotels and this hotel is just as nice as any of them, and is with walking distance of teh Plaza Del Duque shopping mall as well as the sea front.
The hotel is around 30 mins from the airport about 30 euros, and 10 euro taxi from Playa Las Americas/ los cristianos which is good because its better to stay out in teh del duque area and travel in and out as you require, as parts are lively and run down in las americas. In las americas its self at night you will get pestered to go into bars alot it does get annoying but you have to just igore it.

Rooms;
The rooms are well kited out they have 32'' led tv's, mini fridge, air con etc usaul 4star mod cons, the rooms are spacious we had the standard room i would also point out.

Hotel; Has good space round about it, with facilities of 2 swimming pools one of which is on the 5th floor is heated in winter and the main pool down on the ground which from many rooms in the hotel is likely to be 2 short lifts down to the pool.

Food and Drink; All inclusive is the way to go, all branded soft drinks, fanta, coca cola, sprite etc, Some branded spirits included in the basic AI price such as Malibu, eristoff vodka, havanna club 5 year old rum(which i can say is very good indeed), and local brands which are also good plus red and white wine (note you dont get just a glass you get the whole bottle), you can pay extra to gain access to the really expensive drinks which is good value also considering the price you would pay outside of teh hotel or per bottle of each drink avialable. The food is excellent too with one restaurant which does breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet style theres choice for everyone theres also a snack bar down at the pool which you can also have lunch at it you dont fancy going up to the main restaurant in the heat. What we did find a few times is during busy periods people will steal your table if you get up to get somthing to eat as a couple together or the waiters woudl clear your table and reset it, top tip would be to try to ignore this and take turns at going up to the buffet and also help your self to drinks as service is slow at dinner time as per teh amount of people in the restaurant.

Would we return to this hotel?
We would definately return to this hotel in the future very good value for money but we would still recomend the Lopesan Costa Meloneras in Gran Canaria over this hotel although its not an all inclusive hotel its the best hotel we have ever stayed in and we always compaire hotels to the Lopesan.

Room Tip: Try to get sea view,

This is a great hotel - brilliantly landscaped, good sized rooms, two great pools, lovely food, and the all inclusive aspect is excellent considering the value. It has a good location, being in a quiet area of the coast but within easy walking distance of the beach (less than 10 minutes) and shopping opportunities; and only a 25 minute taxi journey from the airport.

However, I was really disappointed by the parent company - Melia - and their attitude towards customers. They sent out a welcome email promising a "Welcome Gift" which stated - and I quote - "A 15% discount on all our prices for your booking" - but it turns out this 15% discount was not applicable to the prices on their website, as those are already discounted. So what good is that? And why promise the discount is applicable on ALL the prices, if this isn't the case.

Furthermore, their loyalty programme states that you can "earn points on every booking" at a rate of 10 points for every Euro, and so I should have received 6930 points from my stay, which I would have been glad to use towards a future booking with them - however, they have refused to honour the points because apparently some bookings don't qualify (which goes against the "earn points on every booking" quote from their website).

In each of these situations I queried the issue with them, but they refused to honour what is clearly promised on their website.

All in all I had a good holiday but the fact that they make straightforward promises and then refuse to honour them has left a bad taste in my mouth and so I cannot really recommend them - and what would have been a 4 or 5 review can only be a 3 at best.

A final point - there is a sewage plant nearby, and on one day the smell of this was quite pervasive by the lower pool - which is a shame.

Room Tip: All rooms really face towards the sea - it's just some have better views than others.

We stayed here in November for my husbands birthday. We love the Duque are of Playa and this hotel offered us the best value in what is traditionally a comparably expensive area.

We booked a Junior Suite on an all inclusive basis.

Prior to arrival (and based on the feedback left on here) we e-mailed the hotel to request one of four rooms and were delighted that our request had been honoured on arrival. We were in room 602. Very private and with brilliant views of Playa and the surrounding areas.

Room:
We were a little surprised by the Junior Suite, as the sofa area had no TV and was tucked at the back of the room without natural daylight. On the plus side, the balcony was huge and had sunlight for the vast majority of the day. Whilst they aren't to most luxurious rooms we've ever stayed in it was clean and tidy, if a little functional. Bathrobes and slippers provided. And a mini fridge that was handy. No tea or coffee making facilities, but if you're like me and need caffeine before you emerge in the morning take your own kettle... you can get tea bags, coffee sachets, milk etc. from the main bar and use them in your room. Or like us, get two espresso from the bar as you're heading to bed, stash them in the fridge overnight and have a lovely americano in the morning :-)

Location:
Perfect for us. Far from the madding crowd, but a short walk down to the beach (if you have mobility issues you may need a taxi to get back up, it's quite a hill) but the right side of the motorway and near to the twice weekly market. Quiet and relaxed. Taxi into the port in Playa (Hard Rock Cafe) cost us €8 there and €6 back, which is largely due to how the one way system works to get to that area.

Staff:
Brilliant from start to finish! From reception (always smiley and friendly even when busy!), to the bars, restaurant, pool, entertainment and cleaning staff I haven't got a bad thing to say! All credit to you!

Pools:
There are two pools, a large one at the bottom of the resort and a smaller one near the top. The bottom one is the 'fun' pool with an outdoor snack bar and the primary location for the entertainments team. The towel service works well and we never struggled to get beds. But it is lively, so if you want complete relaxation head to the top pool and the two 'adults only' terrace areas which is where we based ourselves the majority of the time. Handy hint, if you don't fancy sun until around 10.30ish the terrace closest to the main restaurant is shaded for the first part of the day and beds were generally free, but they get the sun not long after and it stays all day :-)

Food:
We were a little disappointed with the variety at the snack bar at main pool (mainly burgers, pizzas etc.) but it's open for the vast majority of the day, so always food available. Plus the ice cream freezer (help yourself) was a nice touch. We found the main restaurant had plenty of choice for all three main meals of the day, and was open for long enough hours that you didn't feel rushed to 'make it' for any meal, which suited us perfectly. Good selection of inclusive drinks available too. We only ate outside of the hotel once during our week, and that was for my husbands birthday.

Bars:
The terrace bar has a spectacular view, with a good choice of inclusive drinks including beers, spirits, cocktails, cava, soft drinks, coffee (on a good machine!) and tea. At 'peak' times is very busy and they could probably do with a few more staff to keep the queues short. Not a problem unless you're in a rush!! They also usually keep a stash of bottled water at the end of the bar, which saves queuing if that's all you're after. The 'sports bar' was a little bit disappointing... Only open in the evening, even though that's where the pool tables are, and the entertainment was 'interesting'. Not our cup of tea, but the families seemed to enjoy it, even if the kiddies stuff went on quite late.

Overall:
We really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to book again. If you want wifi become Melia members before you arrive (no cost) and then it's free, but is still very 'hit and miss' depending on where you are in resort. As we went on this holiday to escape from the hustle and bustle it wasn't a problem, but if you're reliant on an internet connection for business etc. the best reception was in the bar.

Food was good, our room was nice (made nicer by the views and the terrace), the drinks were free flowing and you could pick where you wanted to spend your day based on your own tastes.

A very good and very honest 4* hotel.

This hotel was a real find after searching for a reasinable all inclusive.
We were in 524 which is actually the ground floor of the hotel.it had many levels, but this gave it a nice feel.
Our room was lovely..we didnt get a double but two beds were put together, but i asked housekeeping to make our bed as a double and it was fine.
All staff were great especially Ivan and the guest experience team..it was my boyfriends birthday while we were there and they left cava ancd a note for him and i ordered a cake and a table in the resteraunt and everything went smoothly.

The only negatives i had were;

You couldnt borrow an iron/iron board...really strange for a 4star...we ended up buying one for 12 euros at the local shopping centre

Wifi can be frustrating as it isnt the strongest signal and i had to stay around reception and the bar area to use it..its not explained very well neither how to access it (you have to go on to melia website)
The main pool could have been heated to make it more enjoyable...we went it but quickly came out as it was freeeezing
Safe is 2 euros a day...we just locked our passports in our cases
Overall we would definately go back as entertainment on most nights was great and the food had plenty of choice to suit everyone and the location was fantastic.
