“Fantastic hotel with great staff”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

Firstly can I just comment on 2 very unfair reviews, John O moans that his child is picky and wasn't happy because there was not fish fingers, chicken nuggets, cheese and tomato pizza, waffles etc!!!!!! Try feeding your son fresh food ? You never know he might like it? Also there were chicken nuggets, pizza, chips and burgers available all day at the snack bar.

Also the reviewer who said there was flies on the food, simply not true. Especially by the pool bar as all the food is fresh and kept covered. Also no one else in the hotel suffered any food poisoning and as they both ate 2 different dishes i would have thought it highly unlikely to have both got food poisoning. rant over but it is just not fair when people don't tell the truth.

Back to the hotel, My partner and I had an amazing 2 week break here and from the moment we walked in until the moment we left the staff were simply superb. The hotel is spotless and cleaning is ongoing inside and out. The pools are some of the cleanest I have ever been in and are surrounded by a non slip rubber which is great and stops the issues of slipping and old chipped tiles you sometimes see. Sunbeds were never an issue, we normally wandered down about 10 a.m. and never had a problem. Only on one occasion were 4 beds left unattended with towels on all day but if you point this out to the lifeguard he will remove them. The hotel provides free beach towels which you can change as many times as you want. We tried the top pool only once but found it not as much fun. The hotel does not have many English guests, prob about 20% but I quite like this and enjoy trying to converse with Spanish,Italians and Russians and to be fair once you get chatting together after a few drinks you all tend to communicate easily.
The food options on the buffet in the main restaurant were excellent, from Wild boar to veal to rabbit. Loads of fish cooked fresh in front of you and a theming of each night so a good variation. Plenty of vegetarian options and always a GLUTEN FREE option with every meal from snacks to breakfast which to us is very important as my partner is coelliac and therefore wheat intolerant. As soon as you are seated you get offered wine of your choice and it is by the bottle not a lukewarm glass from some box as I've seen in other hotels. Choice of drinks at the bar is good including cocktails and the local spirits are of good quality , in fact the vodka seemed to be Eristoff quite often. bar serves until 1 am as well which is nice as you sit on the balcony bar and watch the sun go down and the bright lights of Tenerife come on .

Location was perfect for us with Fanabe a 20 minute stroll, if you fancy a silly night then try Ye Olde Ocean bar on Sunday night to watch Mister Sister in drag. Very funny and you quite often catch Perry Fenwick there having a sing on the Karaoke. There are also some lovely restaurants if you fancy eating out. A cab is 5 euros if you don't fancy the walk. For a more sophisticated evening catch a cab for 10 euros into Playas and visit Harrys Bar or the Monkey bar and grill and watch the fireworks while sipping Cuba Libres. The entertainment at the hotel is good and aimed at children and even though we have no youngsters yet the ones that were there seemed to love it and the entertainment staff work tirelessly all day with smiles on their faces whether it be pool games or making tee shirts so full credit to them, also with a lifeguard on duty at all times you can feel safe when your kids are in the pool.

So yes we are booking again for next year and going to try to get 3 weeks here.

Just one final point can I say a massive thankyou to Miquel on reception. He is fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. A credit to the hotel.

My boyfriend and I returned from a week at this hotel yesterday. We booked last minute with booking.com and read some reviews but became slightly annoyed at the pathetic comments made by some people, so here is what this hotel is really like!!

We arrived at almost 1am and were welcomed by a lovely man on reception who was waiting for us with our all inclusive bands and a picnic basket with sandwiches, fruit, yogurt, water and juice and he told us to go and have a drink at the bar as we had a long flight, I was busy asking for the room keys and trying to pay and he said we must have a drink. So we headed outside to the terrace bar which had the most amazing view over Tenerife.

Once we had our drinks I went and paid and received our room key, a map and a security guard waiting to take our bags. I said we were happy to take the bags and he would not here of it. Our room was on the 3rd floor (the bar was on the 5th), and well it was huge! Double bed, sofa, chair, flat screen TV, patio with table and chairs (not much view but we did not mind at all). It was clean and the bathroom was fine (again huge, his & her sink). We unpacked and had a wardrobe, drawer and shelves each, so plenty of room.

In the morning we were eager to get to breakfast, we went into the main restaurant and expected chaos, instead a waiter came and sat us at a table for two, we received coffee and milk jugs and were slightly amazed at the amount of food on offer. Fresh fruit, yogurts, pastries, fresh omlettes, eggs, pancakes, waffles.....the list is endless. But I have to say everything we ate was so fresh and had not been sat around in the silver trays like you see at some hotels. You can even have a glass of Cava if you fancy it.

After breakfast we headed to the pool, do not worry about packing towels, you are given a towel card each at check in. However, you need to look for the life guards at the pool to get fresh towels (we did not know this and spent a lot of time looking for where to get them from, this was our fault for still being half asleep).

The pool....wow!!! It is huge, with the most intricate design, bridges, platforms in the water to lay on or jump from. Plenty of sunbeds and they were not reserved until 9am on-wards, so we tended to put our towels in the spot we fancied just before breakfast. If you leave it until 11am they will be all gone, but not ridiculously early. The pool bar opens early, you can help yourself to soft drinks and coffee, or have anything you like if you ask the bar staff, who I must say are great. Always smiling, helpful, great English, nothing is too much trouble. Food also is served here for what seems like all day, the chef works her socks off and everything again is so fresh!

At lunchtime or throughout the day you can enjoy fruit, salad, chips. burgers, hot dogs, toasties, wraps, foccacia, donor meat, nuggets...the list again is endless. We never ate the same thing twice! Tables are cleaned immediately and fresh sald and fruit and other food is constantly being made.

The pool area is also immaculate, the water is chilly (although I am a wimp), and very deep at certain points but there is a child's pool and even children were having great fun in the deep end. When we first went to the pool on Sunday the entertainment team put a giant inflatable in the pool. this was great for the children and the adults too, it was very controlled (1/2 at a time) and the staff were brilliant at controlling this with very excited children (and adults). This was a super idea and I have not seen anywhere before. The entertainment team came out at 11am and did a club dance and welcomed everyone, they then had activities for the children, teens and adults. This varied daily and there was no pressure to join in, they kindly asked you and if you did not fancy it this was not a problem (we have experienced this pressure in previous hotels). There is a smaller pool by the main restaurant on floor 5, and this also has a great sunbathing deck over looking the hotel and Costa Adeje just for adults but we did not use this as the main pool was so calm and relaxing.

There is a ramp from the main pool to the outside of the hotel in which you can take a walk to the beach, the main strip of Costa Adeje or the shopping centre Plaza del Douche (this is amazing but very expensive shops, Cartier/Rolex to name a few) but a great distance for a late night walk and they have a super bar which does great cocktails.

The main restaurant is a buffet for dinner, but again we ate nothing twice, has fresh cooked Swordfish, pork, lamb, and much more. Fresh salad and bread, soup, cakes, icecream, fruit and what we believe something for everyone. You would have to be so fussy to complain or not find something different to eat!!! The service in the restaurant is again exceptional, tables found immediately for you even when busy, you can have soft drinks, wine, beer with dinner. the wine we found was OK but you could buy a list of wine if you wanted to which we did one night for only 8 euros a bottle, if you do like the included wine they leave you the bottle which is great.

This review is long and repetitive I know but we had such a good week that I feel the hotel deserves a honest review from some well traveled people/ The entertainment was very professional, we do admit that we only saw 2 shows as we were content at the terrace bar, drinking and playing cards but from what we did see it was very good. there is another bar and pool tables there too.

The hotel is not on the beach and although it is not too far the hill back to the hotel is some what of an incline, so please bear this in mind if you are not a keen walker, but there is a shuttle bus but we did not use this.

We visited Siam park which is great. during the peak season we do recommend purchasing the fast past, we didn't and the queues were very long.

All in all this is the best all inclusive hotel we have stayed in, in Europe. We could not fault or find anything that maybe could be improved. Every single member of staff works so hard and they are always smiling. The hotel is clean, the drinks and food are wonderful and we do believe that some of the reviews below really are from some very rude people. There are lots of steps as it is on the hill of Costa Adeje and you may struggle if you are less mobile. We went in high season and the hotel was full so I cannot believe the service changes at any other time during the year. Also make sure you head up to floor 8 as there is a great viewing tower in which you can see most of Tenerife, lovely sofa up there too for relaxing. The majority of the guests are Spanish but we really liked this, if you want a hotel with a holiday rep and lots of English people to meet then maybe this is not for you but if you want good value or money, great service and a hotel that deserves to be 5* instead of 4 then please give it a try. We are already planning a 10 night stay next year as a week was certainly not long enough. Thank you to everyone for making our holiday unforgettable and we look forward to staying with you again.

Room Tip: Try to be on level 2 or 3 as this is a good distance from the pool (on ground 0) and the restaurant...

This is our second year at this hotel. After doing lots of research I felt that it was difficult to beat in terms of price, location, facilities etc.
We felt that for the bulk of the holiday all was good. Initially we were allocated a room which we weren't happy with. I spoke to a receptionist who told me that the hotel was really busy however she managed to move us to a fabulous room with brilliant views.
As with last year the pool area, particularly the smaller pool is perfect. The staff are helpful and the hotel in general is very good.
However we have 2 issues. Firstly the choice of food for children remains poor. I cannot understand why hotels will not just cater for the majority fo children and cook fish fingers, chicken nuggets, cheese and tomato pizza, waffles etc. My son is a picky eater however he would have been more than happy with such a choice but this did not happen. This is an area that put us off returning.
The second point is that in the evening there were nowhere near enough bar staff working. Queues of people at the bar were commonplace with only one person serving. I understand this may have been because the hotel was busy but management must have been aware and should have done something about it. The staff behind the bar were not at fault.

Hotel Melia Jardines Del Teide is 20 mins from airport and on outskirts of Costa Adeje so quieter and not overlooked. A main road does run around one side but it didn't bother us, even though our rooms (301 and 303) were right next to it. Lovely view to the sea from most areas but hotel is about 10 minutes walk downhill to beach (uphill on way back but get a taxi for 5 Euros!).

We visited with another family and I spent the last day pondering how to best review the hotel. It's 4 star rating is accurate and if you are looking for a luxurious hotel with lots of glamour and bling then go to the Gran Melia in Guia D'Isora up the road (I have been here too as a couple and it is amazing).

Upon arrival I confess myself disappointed but this changed over the first 24 hours. The hotel web site photos do make the rooms and public areas look grander than they are. Our suite was simple and plainly decorated, but we spent hardly any time in it so it didn't matter. The suite was spacious, but could have done with more clothes storage. Bathroom was basic and water was never hot but it was clean and functional.

If you are a couple... choose a different hotel. This is geared up for families. If you are a family with kids who like a great all inclusive hotel with good food and activities for the kids then this is a good choice. The clientele were a mix of nationalities but all very normal decent people and the kids were all well behaved. No loud brash Brits (sorry, couldn't think of another way to say it!) It made for a pleasant stay.

The All Inclusive was great. Only one buffet restaurant but plenty of choice and good quality, tasty food. Red wine and beer was decent and the bar staff were extremely generous with the drinks (I swear every Malibu we had was a triple!). Ice creams, hot food and drinks available all day by the pool and there was also a BBQ which was very good and made a change from the buffet which after a week does get boring. Breakfast in the buffet was a bit like eating on the M25 but go in the extension to the main area as it is much quieter.

Staff were very nice.... Victor was our favourite! We asked for an extra bed (kids fighting over the sofa bed) and some extra pillows and they brought this straight away.

Pool area was smaller than expected but on reflection it was more than adequate and allowed you to keep an eye on the kids easily. It is deep and there are no shallow bits so kids need to be water confident. There is a smaller pool next to the restaurant which had shallow parts, but this was often very busy. There was also a baby pool but was very small. Credit to the lifeguards who were on hand all the time. There were activities on all the time but they changed each day and each activity was only for 1 hour so didn't disturb the day too much (there was an inflatable, a foam party, a slide and run, cocktail making, darts, boule, and lots of other little games).

Yes, people reserved sunbeds and this wasn't policed... but there were plenty available anyway throughout the day. Most people didn't start drifting to the pool until 11am.

Location is great. 10 mins to Siam Park which is WELL worth a visit. No 1 theme park in Spain and we had a great day. Playa Del Duque beach was nearby but the restaurants there are stuffy and expensive. Reception recommended a small Spanish fish restaurant which was half the price and MUCH nicer, in a quieter port about 5 minutes drive away.

Lots of steps, but there are lifts. Evening entertainment for kids was actually very good and they enjoyed it. Bar areas were also good and selection of drinks was brilliant.

One criticism is that the hotel did not provide any information on the hotel amenities, local attractions, getting around and what was included in the all inclusive. This made things a little confusing at first - Management really need to provide something for this.

To summarise... its a 4*... don't expect any more than this. For a family hotel with plenty to do and good food (not al a carte...but it is a 4*) It isn't posh, it is basic, but for what we paid I thought it was value for money. If you are a couple... I wouldn't recommend it but for families it is ideal, and I do have quite high standards.... give it a chance, you might love it!

Room Tip: If you want a quieter location, email in advance. Families with 2 or more children definitely book a...

Me and my partner booked this hotel all inclusive for 10 days. Bearing in mind we only ate at the hotel as we had paid A LOT of money, we both got struck by food poisoning. I had fish for dinner the first 2 nights and my partner had the donar meat for lunch by the pool area. The cleanliness around the food was absolutely disgusting and it was obvious with all the flies. Also the floor was covered in everybody's trash where the staff had not be bothered to clean the tables. I ended up in hospital for the rest of my holiday as I was extremely ill. The doctors said we must inform the hotel as it was severe food poisoning. When my partner did, all they said was "can we get our chefs to cook you fresh food daily"? 1. So there food is not fresh? 2. We was scared to eat there again. So after paying a ridiculous amount for this holiday we then had to pay out more so my partner could eat out. I was too ill to eat the entire holiday and even if I had been well enough I would not of wanted to eat at the hotel. Also the hotel looks lovely but it's impractical for disabled people or people with health problems as there are so many stairs and everything's up hill.

Dear friend of MJT,

We would really like to thank you for sharing your experiences with everyone and especially for your reviews, which always give us the opportunity to achieve continuous improvement.

I am so sorry that you got ill during your holidays, although I can confirm you that in no way could the origin be in our food or beverages, since we follow up the strictest Health&Safety Controls, supervised and surveilled either by Turism Operators and by External Audits. Hundreds of thousands menus served per year is the best guarantee.

What we meant to offer you when we knew you were ill was any special diet you could need; just willing to help. Of course, our food is freshmade at our kitchen premises according to the top quality processes and being a model in HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points).

I am sorry you brought home the wrong impression.

Regarding your observation about the "impractical issues for disabled people or people with health problems as there are so many stairs and everything's up hill", I would like to confirm that it is possible to get from one side to the other of the hotel and gardens either using our 14 lifts or using the ramped routes. 100% accesible for wheelchair, from the front to the back door.

Thank you again.

We have left the hotel this morning after a 10-day stay. The hotel is well located. Costa Adeje is a very special place, more chic and luxurious. If you have kids, whatever their age is, children or teenagers, that would be the best place to stay in. The staff is extremely nice and smiling. Adults can also enjoy themselves participating in activities of the hotel. The food is varied, I would not say excellent, as all- in hotels lack this excellence of "à la carte" menus. The rooms are a bit unhospitable, a little oldish. The beds are not very comfortable. But all in all, we spent a nice journey. One good advice, if you go to South Tenerife, think about bringing your sports shoes, the promenade along the beach lays for kilometers, a good opprtunity to practice sports.

Stayed for 10 days in August. We found the staff very friendly and the quality of the All Inclusive very good.
It's a very nice complex with pretty trees but lots of steps. There are lifts once you work out where they are and where they go.

Had a junior suite, room 703. A little road noise in the mornings could be heard. Room was spacious, cleaning was good apart from the balcony. All towels and toiletries left without fail. The only faults would be lack of hot water - luke warm at most every night and also I found the maids name badge in my bed.

The pool snack bar offered a good alternative to the main restaurant though the food was mostly fried so not very healthy apart from the salads and fruit. You could get hot dogs, burgers, chips, kebab and a variation of fried fish or chicken each day. Cake and fruit were also available. There is also a large freezer with good quality ice creams e.g Cornetto which is self service.
After a few days though we reverted to the main restaurant.
The BBQ's on Friday and Saturday nights make a nice change to the main restaurant but I would have preferred if they weren't on consecutive days.

The main restaurant as a non-fish eater served a lot of fish but I did always find a couple of meat alternatives. Food was of good quality though lacking in vegetables but I find this at all All Inclusive's. Only one day were any plain vegetables served. On other days there were always in a sauce or fried etc.
Wine was always served by the bottle even if you only wanted a glass.
The waiters were however lacking in numbers.

The also put out a few pastries and OJ in the main bar as an early breakfast for those up early or leaving before breakfast.

2; one quieter near the restaurant which had no activities apart from the aqua aerobics. The other one is near the snack bar at the bottom of the complex. The cleaning of the pool depended on which lifeguard was on duty. The older one is much more observant than the other one. Although it said towels could only be changed at certain times, if you saw a lifeguard they would always change your towels for you.
This was by no means a noisy pool though and the PA system was only used at the beginning of the morning and afternoon activities. The staff were very good and did not pressure anyone to join in.

Very good activities for the children such as T shirt painting (at other AI hotels I've been to this has always been an extra but not here), Pirate day and treasure hunt, clay modelling etc. Staff very friendly with excellent English. My children preferred this mini club to all the other hotels we have been to.

One spin type bicycle and one multi weights system. Not great, and very tightly squeezed in.

Can be bought or is free if a member of Melia Rewards. Good connection.

Evening entertainment:
Only caught a couple of shows but preferred to chat to people instead. The room where the entertainment is very small so no where near enough seating is available.
From what I did see I didn't miss much.

Surrounding area:
There is a back door to the hotel near the pool snack bar which allows access to the town. if you want to get to the beach there are 2 large hills to walk down (and then up again) though the actual distance is not too far at all, but the hotel did operate a bus at certain times. There is also a market on the local car park on the main road on Thursdays and Saturdays 9am -2pm. A shopping centre is also near the beach and within a short distance form the hotel.

On the whole would recommend this hotel. My main gripe would be lack of hot water.

Happy to answer any queries if you are travelling sono.

Room Tip: Rooms are very variable. We had a high floor (7) which had great views but meant our front door was...
