Me and my gran went to stay at hill valley hotel for one night and had spa treatments the next day for her 70th birthday present. The spa was lovely and the staff did a good job except for the constant sniffing of one member of staff! The room was also nice but the food was awful especially the beef which was unbelievablely over cooked. Would probably not go again!

On the basis that things can go wrong but the way it's handled is the key then the staff here turned what could have been a bad review into a good one. The wife and I are fond of taking weekend breaks around the UK and had high expectations of this place. First disappointment was that the hotel was a modern and characterless building, albeit set in beautiful surroundings. Second was that whilst we might be considered to be knocking on a bit we are not quite ready for disabled facilities yet. At first glance was impressed by the size of the bathroom but quickly realised it was for wheelchair access. The six grab rails and lowered basin etc proving to be awkward for able bodied use. However when raising it at the desk we were immediately transferred to a better room. Perhaps a little more care at check-in is needed.
Also noticed that the able bodied room was of a higher standard than the disabled one.
Restaurant food was good if a little sparse in quantity for the price.
Were not there for golf but facilities certainly looked good, no doubt why it is popular for that. Staff were friendly and helpful in advising about local places to visit. Seems popular with weddings as well and the one that laid on the firework display certainly added a nice end to the day.
Would agree with the other reviewers that golf has to be your priority to get the most from the venue.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have patio doors with an outside table and chairs. Those overlooking the golf cou...

Me, my friend and our daughters recently had an 'overnight spa stay' here. This was a 'try-out' prior to her daughter's marriage due to be held at Hill Valley in July.
The staff were extremey helpful and nothing was too much trouble. In fact I had left a gold ring in my gown pocket by mistake and they went out of their way trawling through a day's useage to fnd it.
My daughter and my room was on the ground floor and had french windows leading tp a lovely patio area overlooking one of the two golf courses. My friend's room was on the fhe first floor and they had a lovely balcony with a small table and seating.
There were the usual amenities you would expect in the room, i.e. coffee/tea making facilities. TV, radio and excellent room service.
Overall a good trip

Room Tip: Thw ground floor rooms with their patio area was a lovely touch.

Stayed here for one night - which is the good news. Frankly, one of the worst stays I've had for a long time anywhere. The food was very average and service was poor. Lunch was served on the patio with the smokers; dinner in the conservatory and I had to ask for the windows to be closed to stop the smoke coming in. Food was slow coming, and not all at once, and relishes never materialised.
Barman didn't know how to prepare a classic Pimms, and prices were high.
There was a problem with the toilet continuously flushing in the room; which we informed staff of before and after lunch three times. They told us someone had looked at it. On returning to room after dinner - it wasn't fixed and took ages for staff to locate an alternative room, and then not for all as we were in a triple and they only found a single. Nobody could be expected to sleep through the noise, but my friend volunteered to stay - and had the bags under her eyes the next day to prove it.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anybody wanting a spa weekend, it is very geared up towards the golf, and the ambience suffers as a result.
The good news is that we did get a reduction in our bill, and both night porter and day staff the next day were sympathetic.

We held our Annual Charity Golf Day at Macdonald Hill Valley on Thursday 20th June 2013.
The event was a great success, thanks to all the Staff at the Hotel and Golf Club. Kelly the Sales Manager was great, despite the many requests we made of her and her team, all were met with enthusiasm and agreement. Graham the Golf Pro and his team could not have done more to make the Golf a Success. With 120 players playing a Shotgun start over both Courses, it took some organizing, but Graham was always there for us with really great positive ideas.
Both Courses were in great condition and all agreed were challenging. The Food for the 160+ who sat down for Dinner was superb, the Function Room staff were very well trained and served Dinner very efficiently. The only negative with the Room was with the Stage, its lighting and PA system with a Speaker above which created feedback, sure this could be resolved quite easily, by moving the stage and improving the Lighting and disconnecting the Speaker.
The Bedrooms are superb, very well equipped, clean and comfortable. Charging for Wi-Fi is a negative these days with most Hotels we stay in its complementary.
Apart from the couple of negatives, would recommend Hill Valley for major Golf Days, where two Courses are needed. We hope to be able to return next year.

Stayed at Hill Valley, Whitchurch for 2 nights as part of a golfing society of 39 people. The hotel was superb with first class service, excellent food and spotless rooms. My only downside was the price of drinks but that's hotel prices I suppose. If the company reduced those prices then people wouldn't go into the local town at night. The golf course is also of high standard and a good test of any handicap. Unfortunately we chose the local monsoon season but despite that all our party had a superb time. Well worth the money.
