Booked a one night dinner bed and breakfast treat. Arrived early as I mistakenly thought the check in was 2pm but it was 3pm and so we could not check in until then. We were offered use of the swimming pool and leisure facilities while we were waiting, but we chose to go and have a snack at the bar instead. It would have been useful at this point if we had been able to use our £10 credit (given because we booked direct with MacDonald hotels website) however we did not know about the credit until we officially checked in!
When checked in the room was spot on, lovely comfortable bed with massive big pillows, complimentary water, and a chiller which you could have stocked if you so desire. The bathroom and shower were clean and stocked with Arran aromatics (which I love) lovely large towels on a hot towel rail - bliss on a cold evening!

We had a quick dip in the pool and used the sauna steam room and aromatherapy showers. The locker rooms are clean and well equipped with complimentary soap, moisturiser hairdryers etc.

Dinner in the evening was a £25 credit each towards the menu. If you choose all your 3 courses at once then you receive a complimentary prawn cocktail dish and also a sorbet! We did not do this but when we saw what other guests got we did not feel we had missed out! The food we did have was lovely and we couldn't find fault with it.

Breakfast the next morning was lavish, the cold buffet is plentiful with fresh fruit, cold meat, cheese, cereals, pastries fruit juices and smoothies then there is the option to have a cooked breakfast. We had the full English which is well cooked, however we both found it a little rich probably because nowadays we grill our breakfast and this was most definitely fried in rather a lot of oil!

The staff in this hotel are all polite and helpful and nothing is too much trouble.

We would recommend the Hotel and will return at some point.

Two of us have just spent 3 days here and we have no complaints at all, the golf was excellent , the courses both the Sapphire and the Emmerald were both in really good condition, The lady in the golf shop really made us feel welcome and went out of the way for us , unfortunately my playing partner had to attend a funeral so we needed to switch things around and nothing was to much trouble, we will return again .

So the hotel , nice and comfortable rooms, very clean and welcoming, tv , shower and baths in all rooms , tea coffee etc , the hotel staff were really friendly , Kirsty on reception was lovely and very helpful and quick to answer any queries we may have , not your normal stand offish member of staff.
The food in the hotel was overall very good with a good bar menu which I used on a couple of occasions, again the staff in the bar were very friendly, the food in the the borders restaurant was fairly priced , although we were on a golfers package this was explained to us by Katie who again was very helpful, the food was good and service was excellent .
Breakfast offered a variety of juices and cereals and a good cooked breakfast . So overall and excellent stay and we are already looking to book next year , over the last few years we have played other well known courses in the same locality and feel both could learn a lesson in hospitality and how to look after there courses from Hill Valley.
Well done guys , look forward to next year .

I have visited the spa 12 months ago and had a lovely experience. So I decided to take a friend to have a spa day together. I booked the rasul treatment and champagne afternoon tea.
Firstly the spa facilities are very good for the price you pay, the staff are very helpful and friendly, the relaxation room is lovely and very cosy! We both had the self treatment which was a lovely experience. Although on the day I came over all light headed and fainted during my treatment, the staff there acted quickly and made me feel well looked after and I cannot fault them for this.
However our afternoon tea was the let down to our experience... last time I visited it was presented on a 3 tier stand and we had it in the spa lounge which was all round lovely. However this visit we had it in the restaurant area which we didn't mind.
But the experience in the restaurant area was sadly let down by the staff member who didn't seem very helpful. Firstly we did asked politely if we could change tables as we were right by the window but it seemed a lot of trouble to move 1 place mat so we stayed to avoid hassle. The afternoon tea was not presented on a 3 tier stand instead was placed on 3 separate plates where we were very tight for space. The scones were very disappointing as they were very small. And the tea pot looked unpresentable as it had all stains on the lid. And finally very minor but the window ledge had marks of fly muck on as well as a dead fly, although this was only little fault it just made it look unpresentable and not appetising when your dining.
I hate to complain but I just thought a lovely experience at the spa with helpful and polite staff, was sadly let down by the restaurant area.

We stayed a couple of nights to attend a wedding in the area. The room was spacious and had everything needed for a short stay. The decor was somewhat bland, but we were not there all that much.
There was a pleasant welcome at reception. Check out was simple. Breakfast was a self service buffet with plenty of choice with a cafetière of coffee.
