“What a lovely pub”
Reviewed August 4, 2014 via mobile

We only stayed in Whitchurch for the one night and were so pleased we chose this cosy pub to have our meal.
The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was fab.I had the fish pie and my husband had the ham egg & chips - which were homemade chips by the way and it was all served piping hot.Would highly recommend this place

“Authentic English Pub with great food and service”
Reviewed July 27, 2014

We found this pub after walking into Whitchurch from the Llangollen canal where we had moored our narrowboat. What a great find. Friendly service, decent selection of real beers and quality pub food with hand cut chips if you fancy them.
On 15 July 2014 when we visited there was a traditional folk group playing at one of the tables and one of the members was playing with two old spoons up and down his forearm to his hand to create different notes to accompany the vocalists and guitar players.
We had our meal in the garden at the back as it was warm summer's evening. The pub is next to the main church at the top of the hill. Do also checkout the beautiful stained glass windows in the church - vibrant in the evening sun.

Great menu and service. Dog friendly including water bowls and treats. Always good for lunch or dinner. Especially recommend bacon and black pudding.

“Good place, good food, dog friendly”
Reviewed July 14, 2014 via mobile

I came here on the off chance with some friends after taking 3dogs for a walk, it's really nice to have dog friendly bars we sat out side and one of us ordered drinks and got some menus the service was great, the waitress came out to us took our order and was exceptionally helpful. The food was great it's really worth a visit here for food I will be going again!
After we had all ate our weight in food the dogs were even given a treat (a really nice touch)

Inside there isn't must room inside to just drink and it can make you feel a little uncomfortable if there are lots eating but it's more of a restaurant that bar.

“Great beer, good food, lovely pub”
Reviewed July 12, 2014

Have been here a few times now and found it to be reliably good. It's home cooked/home made pub grub (not the frozen Fred's stuff that's on many a pub menu). There's only one veggie dish on the main menu each day, but it does change pretty much every day depending on what they've got left over/going spare/feel like cooking. Last night's was a sweet potato, spinach, tomato and basil lasagne with home made chips (from actual raw potatoes!) and a side salad, for example. Nowt fancy, but nice to know that each time I go the option will be different from the time before.

Meat choices are good and the ham looks fabulous - none of your preformed rubbish. Thee are also usually a couple of fish dishes too.

For the real ale lovers you can order three thirds of different pints to sample all their guest ales and they also do proper cider etc.

We keep trying other pubs in the area, but haven't yet found one as good as this.
