“Wonderful meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

It was our last evening in Puglia and the 6 of us decided to eat at Ill Cortiletto.

The whole dining experience from the venue, service and importantly the food was absolutely wonderful and faultless.

We were seated in the small courtyard at the rear of the restaurant, which in itself was rather special.

Paolo described the menu and we were all left salivating at the description of the food. Our only problem was that we then wanted to try as much as possible.

When the food arrived it was clear that Paolo is an extremely passionate and talented chef. We all agreed that the food was absolutely first class, as was the local wine that was recommended. All the ingredients were fresh and local.

The service was exceptional. The whole experience was a wonderful end to a fantastic holiday.

I feel very sure that we will return.

“If you should be in Lucera...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2013

You probably won't be visiting Lucera in Apulia, Italy, but you should. It's an excellent small town with a great atmosphere. And a truly outstanding restaurant in Il Cortiletto! It takes some finding in the maze of medieval streets, but is a gem! The menu is changed daily and our host, Paolo, told us in impeccable English about each choice. He advised us on the right wines and gave us all the info needed for an outstanding and regional meal. We had three courses, being incapable of eating a dessert, and as I was trying to estimate the bill (I guessed 110 euros) the whole lot came to 80! It was the best meal and the best value meal in out three week jaunt through Italy, and there were MANY good ones!
Not only the meal and service were excellent: the restaurant terrace was also superb. Absolutely recommended!!!

“The best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

Even if Lucera didn’t have the ruins of a Frederick II castle and a Roman arena, this
restaurant would justify a stop. It fully deserves its number 1 ranking. No menu: the
locally sourced choices are carefully described by the English speaking chef/ owner, along with a small selection of local wines. Pleasant, comfortable decor. In two weeks in Southern Italy we had many memorable meals but his may well have been the best.

Dear Sirs, Thank you for your review which puts us in first place before our local monuments. My intent, through the choice of local products, is to bring to the attention of Italian culture through the scents and flavors of our cuisine.

“Delicious and excellent atmosphere for regional food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

The chef prepared multiple courses for us, including 2 pasta dishes post antipasto. The flavors were fantastic with a beautiful presentation. The atmosphere is local and decorated with various local herbs and flowers drying on the walls.

“The best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2012

We found ourselves in Lucera on our 30th wedding anniversary and celebrated at Il Cortiletto with another couple (who treated us to a spectacular meal). Paolo and his wife, the owner and chefs, couldn't be more welcoming. Paolo's English was much better than he suggested it would be, and we learned of his use of local products and fresh ingredients from around the Lucera region. His description of the local wines was exquisite and we actually visited the Longo Alberto winery (maker of the wine we enjoyed at dinner) the next morning. This is a beautiful restaurant that has a courtyard adjoining Lucera's neighboring Archeological Museum in the central city (behind the Duomo). Fabulous food in a beautiful setting with superb service by super friendly owners. Our best meal in a three week visit to southern Italy.
