“Perfect... if we don't want to go out”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Let`s start with good points:
* beautifull resort with amazing outside pools (one olympic size for swing, an other one spa style)
* rooms are pretty and a plate of fresh fruit is waiting for you the first day
* restaurant is very good (but not cheap)
* high quality breakfirst
* people are friendly and helpfull
* 80euro per day is a very good price for the quality

Now the drawback:
* it is in the middle of nowhere! A car is needed to exit of the resort.

Then, if you intend to relax and stay at the same place during all your journey : Perfect. If not, you will need a solid half hour of drive to go somewhere else with interesting spots. (Foggia, the nearby city is not)

Grand Hotel Vigna Nocelli is located in "Lucera". It's about 14km. away from Foggia. This area is not a well known tourist destination. Therefore you won't find a lot lot of luxurious hotels in this part of Puglia. It was a wonderful surprise to discover this 5 star resort for me and my family. We stayed there only for one night, and loved it. Finding the location of the hotel is little confusing. There is a small sign off of the main road, try not to miss it. Then follow the sign, you'll reach there within 1.5 km. The hotel is on the right. The entrance is through a big gate decorated with statues.
We enjoyed the breakfast and the lunch. They use the high quality, locally grown, fresh ingredients. The service was top notch. The palm trees among the rooms are beautiful. All the rooms are surrounded by greenery. They are located outside the main building, and reached by pathways. The beds and pillows were comfortable. Individual heating, and cooling system of the room worked perfect. During our stay it was very cold outside, but our room was very warm and cozy. The shower and the jetted tub were nice and clean. We would love to go back and stay there again. Especially when the weather is warmer...The outdoor seating near the main building looked very inviting.

Good for a stopover in foggia-- in our case, to catch an early morning train to Rome. Rooms nice and quite spacious. Excellent bathroom complete with Jacuzzi. Beautifully landscaped grounds. Sadly, the lovely pools were closed which we found surprising on October 1....and, even more surprising, left to go to algae.and . Excellent free wifi -- and in our experience excellent wifi is rare in Italy, especially right in the room!!

Strange restaurant; an elegant ballroom but with 2 giant tv sets blaring a to a game show and blue white fluorescents in the glass chandeliers, the mood just didn't make it! Wait staff tries hard but food was decidely mediocre. Moreover, since the hotel is a stand-alone out on the highway between Lucera and Foggia, one is sort of a captive to the hotel's restaurant.

Safe free parking as the grounds are enclosed, and a guard is on duty.

The rooms, restaurant, spa, reception and staff were all excellent. Perhap it was the end of the season but pool was not inviting because of its green water and some minor maintenance is needed. Pity. Everything else was certainly up to scratch and the hotel is generously appointed. I've never seen a bigger Venetian glass chandelier than that in the restautrant and the main entrance block is a stunning design.

This hotel was recommended by a local business we were scheduled to visit on 2 occasions in Lucera. I could not have been happier with this hotel.

First time we arrived by train to Foggia & the hotel shuttle service picked us up & dropped us back off at departure. I had emailed the hotel prior as I travel a great deal for work & like a few extras in the room along with arranging the shuttle. The hotel emailed me back very quickly to confirm all my requests. Upon check in they double checked with me to see if I needed anything else. A bellman showed us to the room & pointed out where the restaurant & pool facilities were.

The rooms are a good size, beds comfortable, bathrooms large with all toiletries you need. Free internet. The pool is nice, especially in the hot summer. Pool staff are very helpful & always asked if we needed items from the bar. We saw many people order wine & spirits & the pool staff always made sure to bring a bucket with ice.

The hotel main entrance is very historic & was at one time a customs office. The reception staff are some of the best we have experienced here in Italy & we travel A LOT. The owner of the hotel can be seen meeting guests & making sure they are taken care of. He was very kind to us.

The food is quite good, especially for Canadians who are always eager to have a nice steak & it was on the menu of the day a few times during our stays. The service was very good.

I highly recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to the Foggia or Lucera area. The price is very reasonable & you will not be disappointed with the service.

When we arrived we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The spa is incredible and one of the best we have experienced in Europe. The facilities are endless and the rooms are very comfortable and large. There was obviously no expense spared when building this hotel. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: As for a room close to reception as they are very spread out!
