Review of New Travel Lodge

We escaped the Bangkok Flood 2011 to stay here for a few days and found the hotel accommodating and efficient. Right off you can tell the property is quite old and peeling off in places. The price is definitely value for money though, with plenty of facilities to occupy your stay. The rooms were large but in dire need for renovation and redesign. Location is just off the highway and on the way into downtown, so easy to find but not quite next to anything. Staff was friendly and breakfast was pretty standard. Free wifi a plus. There was a blackout during our stay, but their generators (very loud) kicked in right away. Plenty of parking, but when they did run out (as during our stay there was a wedding) you could park in the Police station next door.

Overall the grade is 3/5 because there's good value here but the owners have been holding back a renovation for too long.More

Recommended Hotel for Value of Money
I had a chance to visit chanthaburi in October 2010. My friends and I traveled for 10 people. We decided to choose New Travel Lodge here as our accommodation. While we were staying here, we used all facilities offered in the hotel, such as big swimming pool, suana, jacuzzi, and room service. We loved them and all staff are nice to us especially the front desk. Thanks a lot. For the room rate around 750 Baht is good value of money compared to what we got from them. So if I had chances to visit Chanthaburi again, I'd prefer to stay this hotel.

Dissappointed
I read the reviews and did my homework before i booked here but was dissappointed with this hotel. It served its purpose as a place to sleep but the hotel ,and it can be seen it was once quite a good hotel, but has slipped in maintenance and upkeep to a two star level . It is shoddy , the carpets need replacing and we broken wardrobe doors in our room. it was rather depressing.

We also had an incidence with the laundry. We used the hotels laundry and when it was returned , a bright yellow dress of my partner came back brown and a brand new green dress came back pale blue. Some of the other items were also discoloured. Obviously a bleech was used. When we spoke to the staff about it they were very apologetic and said they didn't know how it could happen and it had never happened before but no offer of replacement was made and when i suggested that we should not pay for the laundry service of those damaged items was met with blank looks.

The breakfast was not that good. I usually eat thai food (by that i mean non restaurant thai food) but this was not even good street level thai food and was full of msg and sugar so i had toast and fried egg and fruit .

We were also woken about 12 one night by room service. They had stuffed up the room numbers in the kitchen and it should have been to a room a couple of doors up.

Incidently , my Thai partner said she wanted a massage but was told the service was only available for men.

If only there was a better hotel in the 700 THB range in Chanthburi i would use it. We will return only because there is nothing better in that price range that i know of.

value for money
The new travel lodge is a good value for money hotel, combining a resturant inside with a barbaque and beer garden, out side in season. The food is average but can be good depending on your choice, I have stopped here three times, but this year moved to the K.P Grand as when there are weddings,of which (there are quite a few) the pool becomes unavailable to other guests. Having paid for this facaulty, this is unexceptable when you cannot use the pool for five days out of eight. as happened last year. This is part of your holiday. I am a gem buyer and the good lady chills out shopping and around the pool while i am at the gem market. No pool one unhappy girl? The staff are great any other problems ask for jack one of the managers he is magic. Over all you will always get accomadation here if you are stuck. the new travel lodge is ok for a couple of nights but due to the swimming pool problem i would stop else were if staying longer

Clean and a great breakfast if you're Asian
The hotel is neat, clean and tidy with a pool to mirror this. Air-con is loud and will provide you with dreams of being in a driving truck and the temperature can be adjusted to off/Saharan, cold, colder, arctic.

All in all worth the money and if you are into Asian breakfasts you will love the mornings, if not then you will have to make do with toast, jam and greasy eggs . . . astonishingly the fruit assortment is poor, considering that it is in the middle of THE Thai orchard area.

Cheap and Chearful
If you are visiting Chantaburi in Thailand, you could do a lot lot worse than staying at the New Travel Lodge. For a very cheap hotel its quality is amazing. All the rooms are clean and tidy, with their own bathrooms, and cable tv. Food wise the menu has a choice of either local or western food. The hotel also has massage and a pool. The staff are very warm and friendly and always try to accommodate your needs. The New Travel Lodge is definately a cheap and cheery place just, the place to stop and relax during your stay in the amazing Chantaburi.
