Right across from the cathedral (on the little bridge) there's about a one-kilometer street by the river called the 'Chantaboon Waterfront Community'. Well worth a walk through these lived-in and lively houses. Lots of little shops, cafes, and temples. And plenty of LIFE. Useful maps and visit the community learning centre for lovely old wooden shophouse and lots of photos. Very friendly and helpful staff.
A very nice insight into regular thai streetlife, with the residents not seeming to mind our noses poked into their houses!
I guess you could walk back to the church (our starting point) but we tried to follow the other river bank. Apart from seeing some interesting cafes/restaurants, we had to circle around to get there.
The web site - http://www.chantaboonriver.com seems not to be working.
