“A very pleasant surprise.”
Reviewed November 26, 2011

When we found this Hotel it was a very pleasant surprise, in fact this was the best that we had encountered on our Tour of Thailand. Our tour is not yet complete, so we shall update upon our other findings later. The Kasemsarn Hotel is a Good looking Hotel from the outside, when you pass through the entrance you will see at once that the inside is also extremely clean, the Reception Staff are Polite and most helpful in their duties. The Rooms which are situated on inward facing terraces give a nice touch to the appearance. Inside the rooms there are either twin or double beds, a Toilet and Shower, Wardrobe, TV, and air conditioning. All of these are spotlessly clean. There is a Resteraunt beside the Reception, that serves delicious food at a reasonable price, and a Pianist that plays in the Foyer in the evening. We paid for this, getting a 30% discount 800 Baht. That is in our opinion a Very Good Deal Indeed. We will most certainly return.

We stayed at the Kasemsarn for 3 nights. It's a 2-minute trip by taxi from the Bus station - about 5 minutes' walk. The hotel is centrally situated on the main street where most of the jewellery shops and workshops are, a short walk from the riverside with its old Chinese shophouses,
After a 30% off-season discount we paid 880 Baht per night for a twin room with balcony, which I call a bargain. The benefits of a balcony are debatable - the view was of a busy street, a large scruffy school and a few concrete buildings streaked with black mold. But it's a useful place to leave your shoes and to apply anti-mosquito spray in the evening, and the double glazing kept out the traffic noise.
Service was polite, professional and friendly. In the breakfast room (breakfast 120 Baht) they were playing Josephine Baker, which is pretty sophisticated - possibly an allusion to Chanthaburi's ten years of French occupation.

Nice clean rooms and a helpful staff.
Centrally located, near a very interesting historic 'shophouse' neighborhood that runs along the river... right down the alley/street next to the hotel.
Next to also the hotel is possibly the best place to eat in town... a fantastic menu with distinctive local items with flavors that are distinct to the region... unlike 'Central Thai' dishes. And they have durian ice cream pops in the small freezer in the front of the restaurant!
Finallly, this hotel is also a short walk to the NamPhu Market, where you can get Thai coffee, fruit and pastries, as well as observe the other local meats and produce being prepared and sold. I'll definately stay there when I visit Chanthaburi next time.

The hotel was very new and clean. The rooms were fully equipped. hot water shower, TV, air con, towels, toiletries, etc. The beds were very comfortable and there was a nice little balcony. The restaurant served good food.

We were just passing through the town, but if we go there again we'll stay there. At the time we went (before 2009 - but drop down menu won't go any further than 2009) the price was on special offer, 700 baht instead of 1200 baht.

My husband and i have stayed in this hotel last Dec 2009. The hotel reception was nice and comfy. All staffs were friendly and helpful. They were always there to accommodate whatever we need. The location was excellent, in the heart of town and everything. I can just walk to the night market for foods. So.. so.. convenience.

The hotel was refurbished a couple years ago, some parts still are original but clean and airy. We have booked for a standard room for 3 nights. The room was small and its bed was very small too. We were uncomfortable with a very tiny bed. I am not too sure if it was a double bed or just a king single bed but we have never slept on small bed (double) like this before. Room cleanliness is ok, some mark spots on the wall but bathroom was very clean.

We've paid 850 thb/night (no BF but they have a very cute coffeeshop and famous restaurant). So no complain, but we have to rethink if we want to stay here again with a small bed or not. Otherwise everything was perfect.

In overall, This hotel is nice and warm for staying, if you book for a deluxe room which may has bigger bed. Really recommend it, if you are looking for a place in Chanthaburi.
