“Dont listen to the moaners”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Just had a 4 night all inclusive break here and it was great. If you want a good time and are prepared to go out and do a bit of walking, its a great place. I suspect that the people who moan about being 100m from the main complex to go for your food ( which is good for the cost ) may be a little less mobile than some of us, ie they make the ground shake when they walk.
Rooms very clean, always new towels and sheets every day. Security guard at night got rid of the odd loud moron around the place so we slept very well.
A great bar straight down on the front from the hotel "Double Dutch Happy Days" was a great place to go. He opened at 10.00pm and shuts at 6.00am. Loved every minute we were in there and I am over 50.
Just go and make a great holiday of it, its a bit like Benidorm (the TV programme) but if you can get past that, its a fun place to be with a great group of friends.

Room Tip: High up rooms are better, no problem facing the pool entertainment area as it finishes at 11.00pm.

We looked long and hard for a last minute holiday, looking through most of the on line sites and trip advisor reviews. We finally decided on the Palma Bay Resort as flights and hotel were available for the days we were wanting. Flight with Monarch - on time, transfer to hotel - short and sweet, checking in, not possible as 'HOTEL FULL'. Not Happy Bunnies.
We were aware of the overflow Hotels and requested when booking not to be placed in one of them. Taxi ordered and whisked off to the 4 star Mediterean BayHotel about a mile away. We were able to use facilities of both hotels as in same group. (Seperate review)
Although not sleeping at the Palma Bay we did eat there some days and to be fair the food was not all that bad. There was a good choice, it was hot and well presented in a typical spanish buffet style restuarant. It was not 'Al a Carte' and at the price paid it shouldn't be expected by some of the previous reviewers. Food and drink are available from 10.00 until 23.00 and families can get as much or as little as they want, some more than others. If you want to sit around all day and drink, then you can. (Not for us). Entertainment comes in the way of the Animacion team who offer games for kids and adults and an evening entertainment programme.
Staff were pleasant and willing to offer help wherever possible in what is a very busy Hotel.
If we had not been moved to another hotel we would have made the most of the Palma Bay which is more focused on groups and families rather than couples wanting a quieter holiday.
Overall, its not really as bad as some reviewers say.

Room Tip: Try and get away from the rooms overlooking the stage and bar area.

Reading the other reviews i wasnt sure if i wanted to go but We went to Palma bay hotel on the 5th oct for a week it was a cheap all inclusive week away for me and my husband n another couple! we arrived late at night! there was someone on reception when we arrived he was very helpful and shown us on a map where to go because it was late at night there was only 1 bloke on reception so he couldnt leave and show us where to go!
At first i was a lil disappointed to find we didnt have a window in our room but by mornin i was fine with it as we spent most of the time out of the room plus the couple we went wiv had a connecting door to our room which had a window!
The beds were 2 singles pushed together but that didnt bother us!
The food was good most of it was the same but there was a different meat every night and a big varity of stuff!!
The entertainment was ok we played bingo one night but not again as we paid 5euros for 5 strips but we wasnt playing to win money!! The drink measures were massive defo worth the money!!
all cocktails largers and most sprirts were all inclusive!!!
The walk down to the beach only took 5/10mins but it was nice because you got to walk past all the shops and bars!
One bar i would defo recommand to go to is Happy Days awesome bar met sum awesome ppl and the bar staff and owers were very friendly! The pool was nice but you wasnt allowed inflatables in there wasnt allowed to play games or dive the life guard was tad misrable really!! The cleaners were very friendly always about but didnt speak english but they still spoke to us lol!!
The reception staff knew a lot of English and were very helpful and friendly!!
If you want a nice cheap hotel and dont mind walking and spending time away from the room this is the place to go!!!

Room Tip: book in main hotel complex

So, it was with some trepidation that we approached the check-in desk last Monday after reading some of the reviews on here. We were really fearing the worst however check-in was seamless - allocated a room in Nubia which we expected as we had booked a promo room. Although small the room was clean and offered everything you would need. We were only planning on sleeping in it or sitting on the balcony anyway. Bathroom was modern with an excellent hot shower.
Our meals were taken in Habana and there was plenty of variety - several hot dishes, soup, salads, fresh fruit, deserts - none of us struggled to find something that suited despite all having different tastes. Breakfast was also extremely good. Snack bar was handy if you fancied something in between or if you don't want to go to the main dining room for lunch every day.
We had no issues with the bar, you knew beforehand that it was small plastic glasses and the queues were never too long. Staff all friendly and helpful and you could see that they clearly all worked hard.
Plenty of activities - mini-golf, tennis, football, pool, etc so loads to keep the kids occupied - entertainment staff good at encouraging you to take part in these if you wanted. To be honest though the night time entertainment did leave a lot to be desired however the bar in Habana opens at 8pm so you could chose not to sit through it if you wished.
Overall we had a fantastic holiday - the staff were friendly and helpful - I think if you are pleasant to people then they will be pleasant back.

I would say if you've booked Palma Bay go with an open mind and don't let the reviews put you off - it's definitely what you make of it. For the money it was well worth it.

You get what you pay for , room was pretty good and cleaned daily, food was ok but
didnt vary very much . Had a room problem to start with but found that Maria , who I think
is a manager, was really on the ball and was very pleasant , sorted quickly.

Room Tip: The Habana is the best hotel to stay in, floor 5 and up.

we had booked the palma bay hotel as a cheap late season all inclusive holiday, we booked one of the off site hotels, there are 3, sahara, gobi and nubia, we also knew that these were just basic hotels with nothing in them, we were allocated room 403 in the sahara, the room was on the small side but big enough for 2 beds and a cot, there was a wardrobe and dressing table with a t.v, it was big enough for us. a plus is that the main complex was really noisey in the evening/night but our room was far enough away that it was quite quiet which is a bonus when you have a very young child, the cleaners did a great job and our room was really clean. the beds were not the most comfortable i have slept on and after 5 nights my back was very sore.
the food was ok, always something to eat but there was nothing special about any of it and chips were on the menu every meal time, as it is end of season and although they are fully booked they had closed some of the resturants so ours was very busy all the time, and at times the que to get in the resturant were quite long, there was no organisation on queing for food there seemed to be one que going round the food station so you sort of had to dive into it whenever you could, all the staff were really friendly especially Manuel and Judith in the habana resturant. the snack bar served burgers, hotdogs and a few other bits and pieces as well as chips. you only get very small plastic cups from the bar so end up queing every few minutes for another beer, you can have 2 at a time and during the day the main pool bar is the only bar open, there is one in the habana block that opens from 20:00 - 01:00. there are plenty of pools and all have lots of loungers although there is only one pool suitable for infants and as far as i am aware all were freezing.
the beach is really nice and sandy and is just a short stroll from the hotel there are lots of resturants, bars and clubs along the front as well as a couple of supermarkets. a taxi from the airport cost us 23euros.
would i recomend this hotel, well if all you want is a really cheap holiday then yes, if you are after luxury then this place is not for you, i would not return

after looking at the review of this hotel coming up to my trip i was very nervous on what it would be like. there was 7 of us (6 adults - 1 child). when we first arrived there were a lot of angry guest. we queued for 30min at reception. when we finally got to the check in desk my sister, her husband and child was to stay in the habana hotel and the other 4 adults were moved to a 4* hotel down the road. we said we would have a look. we didn't even get chance to argue with them as they had a taxi already outside waiting.

MEDITERRANEAN BAY HOTEL 4*
When we got to the 4* hotel it was called the Mediterranean bay. first impressions much better than the Palma bay. when we arrived an got checked in, we went to our rooms which where a bit small but there is enough space to move around. The food in the Mediterranean was brilliant. with pasta and rice the only food that was repetitive. there was a good selection on continental food and hot food such as 3 different types of eggs, sausages bacon (breakfast) roast beef with Yorkshire puds (evening). I would recommend for breakfast the earlier you get there the better as some of the food was not so brilliant after it had been sat under the heat lamps. The staff in the Mediterranean Bay hotel was excellent. they were very helpful when ordering pack lunches, asking for directions. the hotel rooms where very clean. cleaned every day with new towels and our bed were made.

the down side of this hotel was that it was a 15min walk to the Palma Bay Hotel where my sister was staying. this was because she couldn't move because the Mediterranean is an adult only hotel.
if staying here the taxis are FREE between the to hotels. we found this out on the last day. you have to tell the taxi driver to charge it to the hotel. Also you may ask why to go down to the Palma bay at all. the entertainment is down there. they only had a Spanish guitarist one night at the Mediterranean hotel.

PALMA BAY HOTEL
on the first impressions of the Palma bay when we arrived was that it was very busy and noisy.
even though we were staying in the Mediterranean we came a ate a few times in Palma bay as we were able to so the family was together. The food in the Palma Bay in the Habana hotel was good and had a nice variety of food BUT.... the que for the food was unbelievable. when i was queuing I ate my food whilst walking around. otherwise it would have been cold. it took nearly 30min to get along one side of the island. this was because people would just push in, so the que wouldn't move. other than the food que the que for the bar wasn't that bad. yes sometimes the que would grow to about 20 people. but what people don't realise is that there is like 7 different hotels all using the same bar.
In the habana hotel where my sister was staying the rooms where the same layout as the Mediterranean bay hotel. and the cleanliness was the same with getting new towels and beds made every day.

AREA
Where we walked home most nights from Palma bay back to the Mediterranean we understood the other reviews of the groups of people standing on street corners late at night. with this we just made sure that we walked back as a group. one night though there was a man stood right outside our hotel randomly stood there with a screwdriver in his hand at 2am.
the area is very derelict. this might have been because not everything is open as its October. whilst we were there it was German Ocktoberfest. this was a little away from out hotel on a beach front bar called mega park. people have said it is very German here, don't get me wrong it is but my answer is your in a foreign country so why worry about the language. most of the people are good at speaking German, english as well as Spanish.

LOCALS
some of the locals are con artests. for example there is a man with potatoes you give him money and chose out of 3 pots where the coin or little ball is under and he slips it out somehow and you lose your money. it is very convincing as they have a english person helping them to rip other English tourists off.

COST
taxi from palma bay to aquarium - 12e
taxi from palma bay to airport - 20e
Bus no. 15 Arenel sea front to palma - single - 1.50e return - 3e
palma bay to Mediterranean htoel - 8e (free)

Room Tip: if you are staying here ask to be moved to the Mediterranean that is if you are adult group if not a...
