Busy year so this review is somewhat late - apologies. We were a group of seven friends who spent a really enjoyable week at the Riu Bravo last June. A lovely hotel with a delightful poolside terrace surrounded by pleasant gardens and just a very short walk from a beautiful beach. The quality and presentation of the food in the dining room was excellent, the rooms were clean and spacious and the staff were polite and friendly. A great break in a great hotel and a destination we will certainly be returning to in the very near future.

As an example of an all-inclusive mass-tourism hotel, you will seldom find better. Our party of three spent one week all inclusive with Saga from 5th April at the Riu Bravo. The hotel is situated a short walk away from the prom and beach at Playa de Palma, a resort which is a little scruffy in places, but was not fully open for the season, so still being prepared. The annoying street-sellers were persistent, but accepted a firm but friendly "no thanks" and moved on. They seemed to leave the promenade part along the beach alone, concentrating instead along the shop-front side. It is a pleasant area, though the Riu Princess along the beach towards S'Arenal might be an eye-opener or some, with much beer-drinking and table-top cavorting, even at 2.30 in the afternoon. Our German friends have great stamina for fun!

The hotel is very clean and well-maintained. There are plenty of sun-beds around the nice (but not very large) pool and gardens. The terrace, lounge and reception areas are lovely, with unlimited supplies of drinks, tea, coffee and snacks available. The staff were excellent, well-trained and thoroughly professional. They made our stay very pleasant, and the superb manager made sure that she was visible and available to all the guests. Any issues (and we overheard a couple of complaints about the showers) were dealt with at lightening speed - in our case the maintenance-man hacksawed an errant suitcase lock in 5 minutes!). The room (125) was of a good standard in Regency style with a pleasant balcony, though it did not have an inspiring view. The bathroom was a little dated, and the shower and toilet just squeaked in to being acceptable, with low water flows. The single room (131) was rather small, but we did not pay a single-room supplement, so overall OK. We could not fault the hotel for the quality and quantity of food. Superb, and very well organised. The restaurant staff - both front and back of house - deserve special praise. The used plates were cleared immediately, and the linen was crisp and fresh - a joy to behold! The service was very friendly and efficient. The range of food was A1, with huge salads, two soups, breads, choice of five or so mains including fish and a slightly dull vegetarian choice, fruit, extensive sweets and ice creams, beer, wine and water on tap. An excellent aspect was that the food was largely freshly-prepared - little unused food was recycled the next day, so the chances of avoiding Spanish-tummy were increased. Some of the courses were designed for the majority German palate - eg the schnitzel came with a chilly/curry sauce. which was maybe a bit odd to average British tastes.

The indoor pool was a bit small and dowdy and reportedly not very warm, and was also separate from the main hotel and spa. The spa and gym looked fine, and were free to use, though the treatments seemed rather expensive (though the reviewer has no experience of this area). Entertainment was middle-of-the-road "live" (which means computer-assisted!) dance music, which suited the rather middle-aged to elderly holidaymakers. Certainly at this time of year the hotel would suit that clientele, more than families with young children. Free drinks were non-branded but actually quite acceptable.

Just to add that we also hired a car from Sixt, about 15 mins walk away from the hotel. They were not the cheapest, but were reliable, trustworthy and professional. I would also advise getting a car with some pulling-power, as the roads - especially around Palma require fast lane-changes or escape from locals in small white vans! Parking at your destination was OK in April, but it must be impossible in peak season. Public transport or tours might be better early-May to end-August.

If you like all-inclusive, multinational, busy holidays in popular places, with a great level of quality, then this hotel is for you.

Room Tip: Some balconies in the reception block facing the pool are shaded by a huge fig tree. Room selection...

I have just returned from the Riu Bravo where I stayed for four weeks with Saga. I can see from previous reviews that most people had praise for this hotel and that I seem to be in the minority, so I will consentrate more on my description and less on my opinions.

The hotel is located in a somewhat seedy area, one street back from the sea front. The hotel is enclosed by a concrete fence and the entrance is not very attractive. Inside the lobby there is a small lounge area with wicker furniture which has been repainted several times. Leading off from the lobby is the lounge/bar which gives the appearance of "Butlins", with straight rows of tables and chairs which although are well upholstered are very rickety. There is a stage but because of so many columns in the lounge a good view is at a premium. The restaurant is quite attractive but again the dining chairs have been repainted several times and in places the carpet is threadbare. I observed that table cloths are only replaced if heavily stained and linen napkins are only supplied for dinner. The food is good but I found that the dessert choice is mediocre.

The lifts to the bedrooms are old and small and the bedrooms although well furnished are very tired looking. The hotel still uses cumbersome door keys and the televisions are the old square box type. Likewise the bathrooms although functional are out of date. There is certainly a problem with the air conditioning/heating system as it just could not cope with the winter temperatures. I had reason to complain to both the general manager and Saga head office and was informed by both that the hotel is actually 5 years overdue for a complete refit. It should be noted that a sun facing room comes at a premium of 7 euros per night and single travellers beware that the single rooms are like shoe boxes and no larger than prison cells.

For those who book with Saga, the Saga lounge is in the basement and is very unattractive and there is a very dangerous step at the fire door leading to it. Also there is a similar dangerous step on the staircase at the first floor.

Outside, by the pool area there are two terraces furnished with tables and chairs. Bcause it seems that this is the congregating point for smokers I was unable to use these terraces. The pool area in genaraly is O.K. but not great. It is very shady because the hotel annexe casts a shadow on the pool area.

To sum up, the position of this hotel is not good but it would certainly be better if it has that long awaited complete refit.

Room Tip: The rooms in the annexe are larger than the main building and if you want to use the balcony you wil...

My wife and I spent 4 weeks here, travelling with SAGA, having chosen it on the basis of favourable reviews on tripadvisor: it was the most satisfactory holiday we have experienced during 65 years of marriage. As we had travelled by a "red-eye" flight, our room was not available, so we were directed to the very large lounge (capacity 406 according to the notice displayed), where we found machines dispensing hot and cold drinks (including beer) and a toaster with sliced bread and cheese and ham. This was available to AI guests 10.00 - 12.00 and 15.00 - 17.00 every day.
We then had lunch, and were amazed by the variety, quantity and quality of food on display: addicts of "5 a day" would find some 20 different dishes of salad. The hot lunch offered comprised 2 x meat, 1 x fish, and a variety of veggi dishes, followed by a substantial variety of sweets, fruit and cheese. This scenario was repeated, with more dishes, for dinner. True, it was more "canteen" than "haute cuisine", but it was well prepared and presented, and excellent quality.
We were then told that our room was ready, and were given the key to the in-room safe (no extra charge): we were in Room 213, facing the pool. This was a twin-bedded en-suite room with balcony, and with a free fridge.
Throughout the 4 weeks, we found all members of staff with whom we had contact were courteous, helpful and efficient.

Downside:

There is little activity in the area at this time of year, but there are bus stops within 3 minutes walk from the hotel with a 10 minute service to Palma: service 25 goes along the motorway, and reaches the Cathedral in about 20 minutes. Standard fare is 1 Euro 50 cents, but you can buy travelcards giving 10 journeys for 10 Euros: these are available from most tobacconists, or from bookstalls, including the one in Placa de Spanya, where all of the buses pass.
Remember that this is Spain, and there are several tripping hazards in the hotel: some of these are marked with striped tape, but the lifts sometimes stop with their floors above or below the level of the landing, and there is a nasty little step leading from the First Floor to the staircase.

Summary - an excellent well-run hotel, providing everything we were hoping for, and much more.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool in the main building face South, and are away from the road,

Not the wow factor, but clean, warm and comfortable. That is all we ever ask for in a hotel and we were not disappointed here. To add to our pleasure every member of staff we ever came across was pleasant, multi lingual and always obliging. We had the all inclusive option and maybe it was because we were out of season, but contrary to other reviews we always found the food of excellent quality, in copious quantities and we were always spoilt for choice! Food and drink were always available around the hotel even when the dining room was shut. Negatives? Yes you can always find negatives if you so want. Some people may be put off by the fact the Hotel is dominated by German nationals, but then so is the whole area of Playa Palma. We actually enjoyed the experience of mixed cultures and felt as if we had "2 holidays for the price of 1". We also were a little disappointed at being put in an annex which was 2-3 mins walk from the main building and all amenities. However we soon realised it was also an advantage, as we watched people queuing for lifts in the main building at peak times and also lots of noise from the bar in the evenings on occasions. So mixed feelings on that one. The room itself was huge with plenty of space although rather lacking in power points. We saw lots of opportunities to book coach trips in the main foyer, some in English via SAGA and some in German via TUI. Being British and also members of SAGA, but travelling independently on this occasion, we naturally approached the SAGA desk only to be told that "people like us" could not book with them, in quite a curt manner! TUI however invited us to their welcome meeting and we also enjoyed some wonderful trips out with them, despite the language barrier. So even if you don't speak the language do consider going on one of their trips if you are not with SAGA. The house-keeping standards were excellent. Several times during our stay we were in our room when the head of house-keeping called in to inspect our room. Also on 2 other occasions, although we had found no fault, first of all a lamp shade was changed as the cleaner could not get a freckle sized mark off it and then a few days later our door handle was tightened. We did not even realise it had loosened! Our sheets were changed automatically every 3 days and towels as often as we wanted. All in all we had a lovely time in this hotel and would definitely like to come back here again.

Room Tip: If you are not happy with your allocated room, reception are usually very obliging about offering yo...

stayed for 3 nights and four days ..I am definitely going again to this hotel. Excellent service, very clean, and very close to beach. Food variety bit less compare to during the summer months, but still lots of options. Very convenient from Airport. Route 21 bus goes directly to this hotel. Highly Recommend staying here

Have stayed only once at the Riu Bravo, but we have been investigating other areas. However, this hotel is the best of the others we have tried. We went with Saga, so the package was 'All Inclusive', very bad for the waist-line!. We are returning Oct 2013 for 3 weeks.
The hotel is situated a little back from a lovely promenade and long sandy beach. There are many varied shops and eating places, although the 'spanish' influence is somewhat lacking.
The hotel food is extremely good and varied. Try to book for any of their 'themed' evening meals outside near the pool - well worth it.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable, one cannot find fault.
If one wants to visit the Capital, the bus stop is very close, and for very little cost the journey is fast using the 'Non Stop' service. Get of the bus at the Plaza de Espana.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool
