“My favoutite place in the sun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2010

Just back from Matagorda. (Again) Girls holiday for over 50s.
We stayed at Las Gaviotas, Block 1. Across the street from the Square, with enough Restaurants, Bars, etc to keep us entertained.
Just a few steps to the long sandy beach and best of all it is all on the flat, perfect for a good walk or a lazy stroll.
The weather was great for September over 30 degrees and a breeze. What more could you ask for.
Most nights after dinner were spent at the Auld Triangle, a lively irish Pub, where we were entertained by Dave and the gang.
Las Gaviotas is a great location, some of the apartments are a little removed from the beach but all are on the flat. No complaints there, except to say that they need to be updated, however ours was clean and everything that we needed was there.
Planning to go back in january.

“PDC great place....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2010

Just arrived back from a 14 day stint to PDC. What a great place!
The food is outstanding generally but you MUST visit Bodecco's (Polish/Irish) resteraunt, Mario's, Emma's Cantina and for some real down to earth English charm visit Jo & Rob at The Inn place who not only give you a good pint but offer some very valuable friendly advice.
Snorkelling at the smaller beach(in front of the scuba diving school) is the best on the Island. You can walk in to the sea knee deep with some bread and watch the fish feed off it, it's an amazing experience.
It is also a nice wallk along the coastal path to Puerto Calero (about 45 mins) with some very nice views.
Left the newer part of the town / Strip to the youngsters.
Worth hiring a car to drive around the whole Island (4 days should be fine) the roads are direct and there is no traffic!!

Have a good trip.( We will be going back there again.)

“Princesa Ico Apartments. Puerto del carmen.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2010

We booked this through the owners direct website, which we did for the first time after being let down by First Choice. Brilliant !!! couldn't have done better. The apartments were quiet with no children, they were across the road at the sister apartments, Ocean club. Where we could go and use their facilities if we wanted to. Apartments were cleaned often and towels changed twice a week. No tv, but that was good as there was plenty of pubs screening the football. We found a few bars at 1.50 a large beer, most were 2.00 and others were 2.50. Breakfast, look for included tea or coffee like Canteena for 2.50, otherwise the price rises by 1.50 more. Best steak was at the American Indian Cafe. The most expensive places are the Indian Curry Houses, but still yummy. Couple of places serving BBQ ribs were good too.
Weather was hot as we went last week of August and first week of September. On reflection the best holiday so far. Getting up in the morning and sitting on the balcony with a cup of tea, waiting for the town to open up about 10.30. Usually cloudy until 10.30 then out comes the sun.
We took Sterling with us and changed it in a number of shops and got 1.20 a £ first week then 1.19 a £ second week. Better than my bank which was 1.13 before we went. At the far end of the town is the Grasshopper pub with a very funny drag act. Across the the road from there, is the Hawiian bar with very good beer for 2.00. High line bar in the middle, large beer 1.50 also the Glasgow Rangers bar, also 1.50. The Galleon for 2.00 is ok too. Hope you see that its quite cheap in PDC, because my mates had gone to different places and they were moaning about everything is really expensive.

“Bluebells family friendly bar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2010

We found Bluebells near the end of our holiday but intend to visit next year!!!! A lovely family friendly bar with a welcoming atmosphere. We have three children, 17, 8 and 5, there was WIFI for the eldest and the younger two loved the childrens cocktails and the games we could borrow ( connect 4 and dominoes were the favourites!!!! ). Definately recommend a visit !!!
NB- there are no annoying people outside pestering you to go in!!!

“Hotel for young people”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2010

I am going to Puerto del carmen with a group of girls this summer and we are looking for some lively apartments to stay in. Somewhere nice with other people our age (18-25) and close to the strip and nightlife. Recommendations would be much appreciated.
thanks
