“Las Calas Comments on Trip Advisor”
Reviewed January 25, 2012

I cant believe some of these comments I have been reading about Las Calas. I have been going now for about 15 years and have never ever had any bad experience or I wouldn't go back but I do year after year. I am very pleased Mr Adam Johnson takes time in replying to the negative comments and agree with everything he says. Its obvious those that say it's like Butlins must have been there to compare. I can tell you now the complex is first class the staff are very helpful and will go out of there way to help in any way. Apartments are very clean and as expected for this type of complex. I don't know what people expect!! Regarding the swimming pools and children using inflatables. One person said they had been on numerous occasions and didnt agree to the times of allowing them into the pools. If he has been a lot then he would know this as it's been like it for years and it works fine. I'm glad he won't be back again. Can I suggest you book a week and see for yourself. Come and see me 359 week 13. 1st one on me!!

Room Tip: I would like to say Las Calas 3 is best but thats not to say anywhere else is not as expected

This is the second time I have been here. The reason that I came back a second time is because everything is friendly. Guests always say hello to each other, I know it is not your 5 star luxury resort and it doesn't pretend to be. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Apartments clean and comfortable. Twin beds in rooms. TV in lounge though don't expect for 100 channels. Great position in Puerto del Carmen and easy to get here from the airport (no noise of planes). Two restaurants. Welcome! in Las Calas 2. Pub type, not really my scene. In Las Calas 3 there is "361". Middle range English pub grub. Excellent service.There are three swimming pools always heated to 24c.

Where do I start, if you are used to gold crown resorts then this resort is not for you .....how this can be compared to Amfi beach or the monterey which are gold crown resorts is beyond me. It is the comparison to butlins. the apartment was like a butlins chalet, with one wardeobe between 4 people, if you put out the bed you had to put the coffee table on the balcony .The bath was a dip bath ! not even big enough for the kids, and when I made the bed in the lounge and asked for a double sheet I was told they didn't have any only single! The kids club was in a basement and there was nothing much arranged over the xmas period. It is in dire need of updating. On a positive the staff are very helpful and will try to assist.

As Chairman of Club Las Calas, I have a number of concerns regarding this negative review:

a. Although the respondent does not use her own name, we have been unable to find any individual (or party) that matches the description she gives of her stay, despite very careful scrutiny of our records;

b. The above notwithstanding, Club Las Calas is an RCI Gold Crown Resort (and has been for 11 years) because RCI Members exchaning into our Club say so! We make no secret of the fact that our Apartments are not as spacious as those built for purpose-designed, high-end resorts in the past few years but they ARE very comfortable, well equipped & beautifully decorated and, moreover, we offer outstanding, friendly service to ALL of our guests;

c. ALL of our Apartments offer one wardrobe for every two adults: one large built-in unit in each bedroom and a free-standing one in every lounge:

d. All units at Las Calas have 'power showers' and the baths are certainly large enough for children under ten years of age, but the baths are short (1.3 metres overall), in order to reduce the amount of water required for each occasion of use, thus helping Lanzarote to address its perennial water shortage by reducing the Island's overall consumption;

e. Given the number of guests visiting with friends, rather than partners, all beds at Club Las Calas are currently single beds, since this offers greater flexibility in allocating accommodation, although we will investigate whether it would be cost-effective to purchase a supply of double sheets for those guests who wish to turn one of our sofa beds into a double bed for the duration of their holiday.

We had a one-week here break back in September. I haven't got round to writing a review until now due to illness. This is a nice clean, well-run resort. It needs some updating - some of the features (and the staff!) are a little old fashioned compared to many places in Lanzarote these days and I agree with one poster's reference to Butlins! But don't let that put you off, we had a good week. Just one thing I wanted to mention though: In our welcome meeting a lady (who said she was covering for the resort manager) told everyone that she had posted some good reviews on Trip Advisor herself, to make sure the apartments were rated #1. I thought that was worth mentioning.

As Chairman of Club Las Calas, whilst I am always grateful for positive feedback, I feel that I need to respond to other aspects of this particular review. In particular, I would question why this review is being posted six months after the holiday concerned.

That aside, apart from one or two reviews which the Club has already challenged, it is our belief that ALL reviews posted on this site have been posted by bona fide TripAdvisor Members, of their own volition, following a genuine visit to our Resort. I can state without fear of contradiction that NO employee of Club Las Calas has ever been (or will ever be) encouraged or allowed to post reviews on the TripAdvisor website! Nonetheless, I was already aware that a member of our staff made a statement along the lines alleged, but can reassure all TripAdvisor users that she was factually in error and that she, herself had never posted such reviews. In any case, she is no longer employed by our Club.

I must reiterate: Members of Club Las Calas staff DO NOT POST REVIEWS HERE.

That said, what we do do is to ASK guests to let their friends, famiies and the wider world know about their experiences at our Resort. They tell their own stories and - as can be seen - the comments are overwhelmingly positive. We provide outstanding holidays in wonderful surroundings and we are very proud to say so.

We were a party of four adults and so had a two bedroom apartment.
The reception is welcoming and efficient. They will arrange an airport transfer for you there and back for 6 euros (12 if you are the only passengers on the bus).
Luggage can be stored on arrival or on departure in their luggage store which is guarded and only costs a euro.

There are three pools which are not huge but adequate and are not aheated so at certain times of the year can be very cold. There are plastic sun beds around the pools and you can hire a sunbed matress for 6 euros a week.

The rooms are comfortable and for self catering have well equipped kitchens with cooker, microwave, fridge, toaster, kettle and all utensils and crockery. Towels are a good size and quality and are changed twice a week. Single beds which are confortable and clean sheets. Maid service is good. Bathroom has hair dryer and over bath shower but be careful as the shower can go from scalding hot to ice cold in a second...! Living room area has a large pull out sofa bed/ comfortable sofa. Large flat screen TV; DVD player (DVDs can be hired on site) Some English channels ITV and Sky news and sports. No BBC sadly. If you take your own DVD player or media player TV has spare scart socket.

There are two restaurants and bars. The first near the reception is the Welcome Bar which serves meals and drinks and the second if the 361 restaurant. The latter is clean and efficient but you must book your table and eating time for evening meals in advance.

There is an option to take out a half board meal offer for 85 euros per person for 5 days (17 per day). For this you can have a breakfeast or a `brunch` meal at any time of the day and then an evening meal. The evening meals are very good quality and choice. Food is well presented and hot. There are options for vegetarians. We would recommend this option if you want to eat mostly on the complex and not venture out. Most if not all the staff in the restaurants and bars are English and very friendly and helpful.

There is often some entertainment provided in the bars in the evenings. Some singers and the usual Bingo and pub quiz nights.

The complex has a fitness gym and a games room (pool and table tennis etc) but we did not use these facilities.

The sea front is a ten minute walk or two minutes in a taxi (3 euros). The sea front is very nice with a good sandy beach which is very suitable for children. Sun beds and brollies can be hired. There are plenty of shops and restaurants on the sea front. There is a Funde Grube shop!!

For those self catering only there are a couple of Spar shops 5-10 mins walk from the complex towards the sea front which have everything and are reasonably priced.

Overall the complex is clean with some ramps for disabled but not entirely wheelchair friendly. Lots of steps to different levels. Those with walking difficulties might find it a challenge. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food in the restaurants is good and reasonably priced. We did not have children and did not see much for them i.e childrens clubs. Clientelle tend to be mainly English. If a Doctor is needed reception will arange for one to visit the complex for a fee. Lastly do not drink the water either cold or boiled. Its not unsafe just has a very high mineral content and causes upset stomachs as I am now finding!! Buy bottled water. Tap water is fine for cleaning teeth and washing food etc but not for drinking due to its high mineral content.

Room Tip: If you have difficult walking ask for an apartment on a lower level

This is our 5th holiday at Club Las Callas. The first week our 18 year old grandson came with us. We all enjoyed it immensley. The atmosphere is lovely. Everyone is so friendly. The entertainment also is very good. We do a lot of self catering and the facilities are excellent, but the food we did eat in the restaurants is good.

Room Tip: We like Las Callas 2

Our 1 bedroom apartment was plenty large enough for the two of us and well equipped. At the time of year, late November, there was ample room around the pool which was right outside our small terrace - there were three other pools around the complex. The staff were extremely helpful and the two bars/restaurants good value and well presented.
