I am the friend of steve who stayed here Sun 6th - Sun 13th jan 2013. he has covered the holiday at LOS HIBISCOS in detail, so i will make it simple and give you the good/bad points.

GOOD POINTS- Very clean, large rooms, Fantastic location ( 2 mins walk from main strip and beach), The drinks are spot on ( fanta, coca cola ) the spirits are local but the measurements make up for it. The beer and cocktails are decent too.

BAD POINTS- The food ( not enough choice and always fish), Ice cold swimming pool ( i seen 2 people use it all week), No security in place, afternoon snacks = 1 plate of warm sandwiches left on the bar all afternoon and the staff are all miserable and unhelpful ( apart from 1 young woman on reception who checked us out, forgot to get her name, she was lovely)

PUERTO DEL CARMEN is a great place, with loads of bars and restaurants. The beach is lovely and everywhere is spotless. I will be back next year but will be looking into renting a villa and going self catering. The food and drink is cheap and most of the bars have offers on.

DONT STAY AT LOS HIBISCOS, YOU WILL ONLY BE DISSAPOINTED ! LOOK INTO DIFFERENT ACCOMMODATION AROUND THE SAME AREA.

Room Tip: " Ask for a room in C block and make sure you get a safe"

Myself and a friend stayed All Inclusive at Los Hibiscos between 6th/13th Jan 2013.

Unfortunately our apartment was broke into on the second night and quite a lot of expensive clothing was taken. Luckily we had a safe and all our cash etc wasnt lost. I think we were followed back from the strip on the first night and deliberately targeted, so i would advise the use of taxis when returning at night. The room we stayed in was A432 and i would avoid A block, as this backs onto a dark street and is easily accessed without entering the hotel through the front. Although, they could probably have walked in through the front entrance as there didnt seem to be any security at all for the first 4 days of our stay. I fear our break in prompted the appearence of 1 security guard for the final few days of our stay. The Managers attitude to the break in was less than satisfactory. Quizzing us as to where the 8" glass panel was that the thieves had removed to gain access and offering no assistance with reporting the break in to the police (we had to pay 30 euros for a translator, even though the manager spoke perfectly good english and had to go to the police station to report the break in on behalf of the hotel). We even heard from fellow guests that he thought it was very suspicious and can only assume from his overall attitude, he suspected we had somehow been complicite in the break in. He actually found one of our cases which had been used to cram our items in dumped at the back of the hotel and looked in it finding only underwear. Bearing in mind he had looked in the dumped case we expected it to be safe behind reception. No such luck!! He informed us it was still where the thieves left it, on the building site at the back of the hotel, but he kindly accompanied is to said bag scrambling across the building site. I dont think it would have killed him to retrieve the bag for us.

We were then moved to C406, which was bit more secure and had a sea view. Unbelievably on entering our new room on day 3 we found 2 cases in our room, which didnt belong to us. On reporting this to reception we found out that the bags in our room were for a couple who were expected the next day. This all but shattered any confidence we had in both hotel security and basic organisation and the unsuspecting couple are very lucky we are honest people (despite what the hotel manager thought) and didnt help our selves to there belongings.

Now, the food and drink!

Having viewed a lot of reviews about the hotel, we were a little aprehensive about the food. Unfortunately our fears were confirmed. There was very little selection and if you dont like fish, you will struggle. Although, to be fair the breakfast was pretty good and we managed to find something to eat most days, but had to eat out a few times, as its all a bit samey. The pool side snacks were particularly poor, consisting of a dozen cheese and ham sanwiches and a few biscuits. I appreciate this is not a 5* hotel but have stayed in 3* hotels many times and Los Hibiscos ranks pretty low on the food side of things. Oh and of course, the security!!

Drinks were excellent, with a few half decent cocktails on the menu, branded soft drinks and amstel beer and the measures were more than generous. So no complaints on that score!

Location is excellent, being only 100yds from the strip and beach.

My overall impression would be that Los Hibiscos is a pretty poor 3* hotel and if your paying any more than £400 including flights you will probably be a bit dissapointed. I was!

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a sea view, as these are more secure. GET A SAFE!!

Stayed at Los Hibiscos October 2012 took no notice of the reviews i wanted to see for myself before making any comments. Am going back to Los Hibiscos in february that speaks volumes. Lovely apartment, fantastic views, just a short walk from the beach and nearby shops. Car hire shop just outside hotel, service from the car hire was very good and a reasonable price for the day could not fault it. Yes the dinning room does look like a cafe but the food was good plenty of fresh fruit which we took to the beach every day and the bread rolls to feed the fish. The staff are very helpful and yes they do smile. If you are miserable i would not smile at you. The hotel and its grounds are spotless. Met some lovely people whilst there. The irish bar across the road is a good place to have the odd drink but can get abit loud some nights, afterall you are on holiday and are there to have fun. Am looking forward to my next trip hope the weather is kind as february can be abit cooler than the other months.

Initially wary because of some bad reviews....
Had asked & recieved high room, the view from the balcony was excellent , hotel location good, beach approx 100 yds away. The pool never seemed to be crowded any time of the day plenty of sunbeds no up at 6am armed with towels etc.
The rooms were clean airy sheets towels changed every other day can't be bad... well equipped
TV remote 5 euro to hire (refundable)
The Food..... What we british have to remember is that WE are not the only guests whilst we were there. There was german, dutch & danish staying & the hotel has to try & cater for everyones
tastes. For me probably breakfast & lunch were the best but i always found something for me at dinner.
One downside for me was they only had coffee/tea at breakfast & I DO like a cuppa with my meal
Could also benefit from a couple of microwaves in the dining room in case the food was not as hot as YOU would like it..
We found the staff more than helpful & courteous especially the bella italian lady Roberta at the poolside bar.
At Los Hibiscus you get what you pay for...if you are looking 5* you will have to pay for it elsewhere .
Would we return ??? why the hell not we enjoyed ourselves & the company of a lovely wee couple Jim & Veronica from Glasgow.
Overall rating because we are not overly fussy, all we look for good location beach bars etc The grounds were immaculate & well kept 8/10

Room Tip: Probably best views would be 4th floor above reception we were c306 still good view of sea & coast + mountains
