Where to start.....reception...check in was good, speedy and no problems. Shown where our room was on a map...no need...out the back of reception facing onto their side wall. This despite emailing and asking for pool view room, I know this is not guaranteed but the place was not fully booked. We were on ground floor. First problem...couldn't get door open, receptionist had to come and show us how to open door. You had to pull door towards you to get in and make sure door was at correct bit before it would open. Once in, initial impression, old and dated but looked clean. Kitchen area, kettle and coffee make looked about 20 years old, yellow and grubby. No toaster despite being on their inventory list. Inside oven, no grill pan wire tray, no way to make toast. You wouldn't anyway. Kitchen utensils so old they looked black and rusty especially tin opener. Bathroom, looked presentable but beware at night, things come out to play. Hair dryer ok for drying hair but I have short hair so maybe if it is long, a bit more difficult. Bedroom, 2 single needs pushed together. Fine. Not a lot of room at bottom of bed due to small dressing table. No full
length mirror for us women to use at night before going out. Outside. Verandah area looked onto small garden and side wall as prev mentioned. Pool area was kept very clean but uncomfortable sunbeds, the spar type. Pool was freezing and you couldn't stay in any length of time, even if you could get in. Pool bar, needs torn down and rebuilt. Dirty and mismatched furniture. Cables hanging all over walls. Old arcade machines lying about not being used. In behind the counter/bar is really not healthy, green chopping board with large black area in centre with same knife used day in and out lying on a filthy work top. Dead flies above bar stuck to surround. Food sometimes looked ok but the day we ordered a simple hotdog and chips it came out burnt to bits. This comes from the restaurant on the premises. Just outside on right.
Right, back to the apartment....if you don't have a strong stomach, stop reading! Inside cupboards plate racks are rusted and dirty. Doors hang squint on kitchen cupboards. Not so small visitors appear sitting on top of fridge. Look like medium size beetles. They are inside cupboards too. My husband opened fridge and found one eating a bar of chocolate we had in there. He didn't tell me this till we were leaving or I would have freaked out. We had been eating out the whole time anyway due to state of kitchen. In bathroom thro the night you could see these same beetles running about the floor in the dark. Put the light on. There are also other smaller beasts that live behind the mirror and behind door frame. We even found one of the beetles running over our toothbrushes, these were kept in small tumbler on wall so not on unit. Not very nice. We didn't even try and go to reception, there was no point because when we tried to complain about the food in pool bar, all you get is, "not understand". We were only there for a couple of days after this so just spent most of our time outside. The overflow in the sink was black, I noticed this one day when brushing teeth and it made me boak. Occasional a small of drains/ sewage came out of the sink too.
Lighter note, TV, no English speaking channels unless you hire the remote. Everything is for hire, except free wifi, which we couldn't get to work anyway. The safe is the old type with lock and key.
The light in centre of lounge area, bare wires at top where attachment had come away from ceiling.
I could go on but don't want think about it anymore. Except the handle we were told there was nothing wrong with at the beginning, came off in my husbands hand, it was fixed quickly but honestly, JUST DON'T! go to the unrefurbished apartments, they should be condemned.
We didn't say anything to the rep because in our previous encounters with reps, they can't resolve any issues you have and we did ask to be moved initially but were told there was no room. If you have small crawling children beware they may pick up a small snack while crawling about.
There are some cats that go about and you are told not to interact with them, but in my estimation, these cats are in better condition than these apartments. Definitely cleaner.
How they can have an award from tripadvisor amazes me because I have always looked here before and never had a bad place since doing so.

Room Tip: If you decide to go after my RV, chose a refurbished apartment, they did look better. Choose apartme...

We booked an apartment with spa access and I must say we were very disappointed with the shabbiness of the apartment. When we asked about upgrading we were told it was €20 per night extra so decided to stay put. Towels were changed frequently but sheets were not changed at all during our 7 night stay despite it being quoted that they would be changed twice per week. The sheets were badly fitting and poor quality. The Swimming pool area was dirty and should have been washed down each night or morning. The Spa was good however some of the advertised facilities were out of order. Gardens were immaculate. Location was brilliant, just off the main drag and close to the taxi rank. The staff were excellent especially Victor. Would stay there again but in one of the upgraded rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a 1st floor room and one of the upgraded rooms.

Myself and 3 friends stayed here from 30th dec - 7th Jan.

We booked a 2 bedroom apartment, and requested a pool view which we got. Our apartment was on the corner on 1st floor and our balcony was huge!
Apartments were very spacious and clean, great shower and bathroom, only downside was the beds were very uncomfortable!
Pool area was lovely but think the pool bar could be doing with an upgrade, we had a few drinks there but never ate in it.
Complex in ideal location, very central and only a few steps from main road.
We went to the spa on our last night to try and release all the weeks alcohol from our systems haha! Loved the spa and wished we had went a couple more times throughout the week. Would def stay again but maybe try the superior apartments next time.
Victor on reception was great, very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: room 269 had a massive balcony and pool view!

Just back from two weeks stay here. Felt staff were pretty much all v friendly.I wanted to talk to the manager on leaving about issues of stay but here will have to do and they may see it! It was New Year's Day so staff tired so not best day to speak about some issues, some being serious! Got garden apt, old fashioned one, typically Spanish style but roomy and v private. I liked it. However apt was not cleaned at all pre arrival so my first hour was cleaning wardrobes lamps etc as all so so dusty and little one allergic. Our clothes would have been filthy otherwise! Once done, we settled in and felt at home, happy out for first ten days at least. Garden area lovely for eating out and fab for quiet subbed time which so many used from crawling babies upwards. Problems then arose when cat pee drenched place and I found two v large poos in garden. Told staff as babies crawl there. Huge risk of toxicplosmosis! Appeared staff member was going to do something but they never disappeared!! Personally think complex staff are not showing will power needed to re home cats as major health issue. Instead staff and guests feed them! They fight back of complex and whine at night for food keeping people awake.

Pool area we used a lot for swimming. Staff should police entrances to pool as people block these for sun seeking and is dangerous too. Tough luck if we have to climb over you. I agree pool bar lacked atmosphere, needs a little makeover. Bye bye tv might work. Some modernising needed. Pool freezing despite saying heated but we used it for almost daily dips.

Dino supermarket right next door does discount for 15 euro custom.

Found whole garden complex outside cat issue so pretty. It also has a pretty bird flying about, wont name it to spoil surprise.

New apts look lovely so once all revamped and cats gone it should be a v nice place. Our cleaner came five days a week and found her lovely and accommodating.

Location v good beside good restaurants both cheap and cheerful and special ones.

Likely a once off holiday at this complex but if on own or couple or older kids good ticks to boxes for most things.

Spa excellent. Lovely staff, facilities good and good value. Got personal yoga session too so all good. Gym needs updating though, husband used another after first day.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2012

We stayed at Playa Cub for a weeks winter sun late November early December 2012.
The apartment complex is about 15 minutes transfer from the airport and situated just off the main road running parallel with the sea.
Our apartment 112 was situated at the back of the complex and was very quiet. It was spotlessly clean and the towels and bedding were changed frequently.
The apartment was on the ground floor with a patio area to the front with table and chairs, the lounge area had a settee, armchair, TV (rent payable) a pine coffee table and a small pine dresser. The lounge opened into a breakfast bar and galley type kitchen which was well equipped, 2 ring hob, oven, fridge, kettle, filter coffee machine and toaster, plus cutlery, plates, cups etc. (Bring a tea towel)

A small corridor opened into the large bathroom, bath, shower, hair dryer and liquid soap provided. The bath looked a little tired but every thing was clean.

The double bedroom (2 single beds) had fitted pine cupboards with hangers, 2 bedside tables and a small dresser, all in pine. Bedding was sheets and blankets plus single pillow (can ask for more). A safe was fitted into the cupboard (local charge 10 Euros).

The grounds were very well kept and clean with lots of palm and cactus trees, our room looked out on to a grass area with sunbeds. The borders were landscaped with black volcanic sand .
The pool are was tiled and had sun beds and umbrellas plus palm trees for shade. As usual there were a few sun bed baggers but not a big deal as the apartments were not fully occupied so plenty available. We like the beach anyway.

Near the pool was a small bar serving snacks and breakfast, all good. Reception was very efficient and friendly. All the staff we met were polite friendly and efficient. Near the pool is a door connecting to a supermarket, key card entry from reception, but it was no big deal to walk around the block to get your fresh bread and other goodies.

Just a general comment, the apartments are being refurbished so there was a small amount of noise occasionally during the day but no disruption. Our apartment had not yet been refurbished but was still very good.

Please read this review with the understanding that the apartments were not full and the resort was generally quiet, i am sure things will be very different at the height of the season, the customers were mainly middle aged or elderly and some family's with very young children, Northern European, Irish and British.

The apartments have a Spa but we did not use this facility.

As the apartments are so close to the beaches and entertainment areas there is plenty to do, just across the main road are small coves with sandy beaches, larger beaches are 300m to left or right and have sun beds etc.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets, we prefer to eat traditional Spanish and fish Taberna De Nino did superb Tapas and just opposite the road leading to the apartments was Cafe La Ola whose food was wonderful. Our only bad experience was eating at a mix Italian Indian restaurant where the food was poor quality and not very well cooked.

The old harbour is worth a visit plenty of seafood restaurants and about 30 minutes walk or 4 euros by taxi. Hope this review helps.

This resort suited us fine as it was low season, reasonably quiet and only a week.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the complex like ours 112 were furthest away from any road and were quieter...
