We stayed here as a family group 18th - 25th July. The apartments were perfectly adequate and handy for the pool, although we would have preferred our ground floor balcony to be facing on to the pool instead of the other way around. One gripe we had was that our apartment was right next to the pool bar and it was extremely noisy with guests singing and shouting until approx. 1.30a.m. in the morning. I'm sure I read in the welcome booklet that noise was to be kept to a minimum after 11p.m. at night. The apartments are perfectly situated for getting to the main strip and beach. Everything is literally on your doorstep.

Me and my boyfriend (both 21) stayed here from 10th to 24th July and we had a brilliant time. This was the first time we had ever been to Lanzarote and we would return without hesitation....one key point don't waste your money booking with Thomas cook we saved £300 each by booking flights with easy jet and apartments with alpharooms...some people might be disappointed with la penita because they have been ripped off by thomas cook but it is definitely value for money when you pay £150pp per week! :)

This isn't a 5* complex which people really do need to remeber. However even though it might only be a 2-3 star we thought it definitely beat some of the 4 stars we had stayed at.

When we arrived we walked into the room and the heat hit us with a bang but after opening the windows and patio door it soon cooled down. On arrival the room was very clean with all the self catering essentials in the room. Make sure you read the la penita leaflet as it gives you all the info regarding where to get the tv remote, safe key, cleaning schedule etc.

I can't fault any of the staff, Carlos and Toni in the pool bar are lovely and always make you feel your custom is truly appreciated. Receptionists always say hello and give a big smile. The cleaning staff try their best, They have to kart all their cleaning products and brushes around with no trolley and in the heat so if they forget something don't kick off too much. Some days we didn't bother getting the room cleaned but the cleaner always left fresh towels on the door in a bag which was a lovely gesture (never had this happen anywhere BIG thumbs up for la penita) The grounds men also work hard to ensure the pool areas and gardens are kept tidy. The pool was never too packed and you could always get a sun bed where you wanted. The sun was shining from around 9-7 on the pool which was good if you wanted a lazy day by the pool.

We could see our bedroom window from the pool (188) so kept the window on the latch to try keep the room cool. We felt the apartments were very safe and you needed keys to enter any of the gates surrounding the apartments.

Entertainment started the second week we arrived and the man seemed to put his all into his work. However it would have been better if he started the week before as there was a number of children that needed entertained.

I would recommend most of the restaurants, Tex mex, Cantina Chihuahua, La Ola, peaking duck and the Italian/Indian beside Rex mex. In the whole two weeks we didn't have one bad meal which is very unusal.

We got a taxi to and from the airport to la penita which was no more than 15 euros.

I would recommend hiring bikes (10 euros for 24hrs) which was good fun, we cycled along the cycle path to the edge of the airport and the planes fly over your head. We also went the other way all along the strip seeing lots of bars and shops you might not fancy walking to from La penita.

Also visit Rancho Texas zoo... 19 euros for adults you get to watch sea lion, parrot and bird shows and see all sorts of animals. There is also swimming pools and two big slides (don't forget your towels and swim wear!) It costs no more than 4 euros in a taxi.

I would definitely recommend going to these apartments and I am very fussy. Hopefully will get back to them next year!

Ps there is also free wifi, best connection is by the pool or in the pool bar...not so great in the rooms. and the TVs have itv, bbc1, sky news and Disney Chanel for anyone that needs a cool down from all the sunshine. :)

Room Tip: We had room 188 we could see this from are sun beds so kept the window open to keep the room cool.

My boyfriend and I stayed here late April/ early May 2012 and we had a lovely time.
The apartments were clean, although being my mother's daughter I did give the drawers a good clean, they were full of hair and dust, yuck.
Other than that we were very pleased with the apartments, the kitchens were well equipped with kettle micro and fridge, crockery and cutlery, and cleaning products provided. The apartments were cleaned most days with fresh towels provided, though one towel did not smell too fresh, it stank of chlorine!
We had an apartment towards the back of the hotel on the ground floor, it wasn't much for views, looking out at the back of some shops and a Chinese restaurant, but as it had a bit of a garden area with Palm trees we were happy as we are too anti-social to enjoy a pool view ;)
On the last night we found out that there is a massive hyperdino supermarket at the end of the side-road our apartment looked onto - we always just took the shortcut down the stairs and walked 10 mins to spar, such fools!
The hotel is in between two beaches, turn left or right and you will find them after a short walk (turn right for the nightlife).
We hired a car and found no trouble parking. Although it was so easy to get lost looking for the hotel through the residential area! This led to several 'disagreements'...
It was pretty quiet when we came here in April, there didn't seem to be much on in the bars, and it was a bit cold for me for sun bathing and the sea was freezing.
Overall a great apartments to use as a base for traveling around the island and for relaxing nights on the terrace.

Just returned from a week at La Penita, just myself and my 16 yr old son and would return again no hestation. Staff fantastic, clean, great apartment and it had everything we could want. cleaning was great. extra towels if you asked as regards the heat in bedroom it was not great,as it was 33-34c everyday... but hey it does state no air conditioning, so its down to those who dont read the details.... Id be willing to pay more for air conditioning and was told by reception desk that plans are afoot for this to be installed... we booked with Thomas Cook requested a poolview and got it room 128 1st floor overlooking pool, perfect!

I just couldnt fault this place, no problems with sun loungers always available whatever time of day plenty of umbrellas and the grounds an pool kept really clean, staff seemed to take pride in the place. Having been to a few 4 and 5 star places this rates as one of the best and IM FUSSY! Anyway you cant please all..

Oh and Puerto Del Carmen is really good, lovely modern esplanade and great if like me you enjoy walking running which there are plenty o runners me included every morning and its flat and well maintained.. plenty places to eat, and very reasonable compared to Tenerife..

Take a trip to Puerto Callero (excuse spelling) which is 10 mins along coast for a really beautiful harbour, cafes, bars and really good craft market twice week, bought some really unusual necklaces.. and see all the amazing yachts Oh how the other half live.

I will be back like a shot and wouldnt hesitate to recommend La Penita!
Enjoy!!

Was really looking forward to staying in these apartments as the reviews were quite good but they didnt measure up. The apartment itself was dirty , grubby and not well maintained at all. The bedroom window opened onto the landing and there was no means of propping it open which meant the room was stifling even with the fan. The beds were rock hard and very hard to sleep on the sofa or arm chairs had hardly a spring left in the cushions which meant there was no where comfie to sit. The balcony on the top floor was very narrow and three of us could not sit round the table a ground floor apartment seems to be the way to go , the cleaning service was brutal and kept having to ask for clean towels which were threadbare and rather terrible. The location pool area and staff were all lovely especially carlos in the pool area bar. Love lanzarote but im sure there are nicer apartments for the same price

Ah, the missing remote control! We thought the last tenant had pinched it. We had not been told that we had to hire it. It was good in that the volume was so loud that we refrained from having the TV on! Always a good thing, we enjoyed the views from our balcony with sundowners. The apartment was as expected, very clean and comfortable except for the night time heat, the fan did help somewhat. We had not paid a lot so did not expect air-con. We only have one grouse about the place. The poolside rules were not adhered to at all, loungers were being reserved as early as 7.30 am and the pool does not open until 9.00 am, and balls and inflatables were in abundance - not good.

Altogether, it was a lovely 4 and half days, worth the distance even for that short time.

Room Tip: Avoid the poolside rooms, anything above ground floor and the balcony doors can be left open during...

My wife and I stayed at the Penita the last week in June and the first in July 2013, and the weather was perfect.
Check in was very easy, for a small payment and deposit you are given a remote control for the TV and a lock and key for the safe. You can get BBC1, ITV and BBC news channels on the TV, and the safe is located as usual in the wardrobe. You are also given a key to the apartment and a key to the gate that surrounds the Penita, this is locked at midnight, a nice bit of added security.
The apartment, lots of cupboard and draw space, there are two extra pillows in the wardrobe as well as lots of hangers, and cups as well as mugs in the kitchen. There is a fan on a stand that you can plug in wherever you want it, we had it blowing all night in the bedroom and it was comfortable, as it was very humid. In the bedroom there are blackout curtains but not in the living room which isn’t good if that’s where you have to sleep. The balcony is very big and is a great place for having something to eat or drink, however if there are small children they would need watching as the hand rail could be climbed up. We were in apartment 227 which looks over the sea, regarding noise I don’t think it matters which apartment you get, they are all quiet.
The pool is a nice size and is cleaned daily, we didn’t have a problem with sun lounges, but I think when the kids have their school holidays there could be shortages.
There is a decent super market not too far away, if you turn left out of the back gate and walk for about a hundred yards, fresh bread every day, but go for the long life milk, anything else will not keep in the fridge for more than a few hours.
The pool bar is a little more expensive than other places for eating and drinking but you have the convenience of it being close. It’s a shame that it closes at 7pm, as this would be a good place to meet other people, I presume they have had noise problems in the past.
No visit from the maid on Sunday and Wednesday, you need to keep this in mind as there are no clean towels on these days.
Check out is 12 o’clock, they have a left luggage area and separate showers along with fresh towels, for those with later flights. At the reception they have a small set of scales, which you can check your luggage weight on, beware if you are with Thomas Cook they charge 18 euros for every kilo over your allowance, as they say, even Dick Turpin wore a mask when he robbed you.
We will return.

Room Tip: If you have kids get a ground floor apartment.
