“Just OK”
Reviewed January 6, 2013 via mobile

This complex we found to be just ok. We didn't really have much to do with the staff so can't really comment on them. We originally chose this hotel as it was £400+ cheaper per person than staying close to the centre of Puerto Del Carmen. It's a nice walk into the main resort and takes around 15 minutes. The rooms at the complex are OK. We stayed in room 178, upstairs over the road looking over the quieter pool. The bedroom is dark and cold and the beds would be better situated in an abertois as they were like sleeping on a slab of marble! The whole week we made up the sofa beds in the living room and slept there as it was far more comfortable. The kitchen was clean and everything was there you needed. The on site supermarket is very good and not overpriced. Now the pool 'Bar' was totally unbearable to sit in as it reeks of fried food and grease. All of the meals are cooked behind the bar which I found really minging. I'm sure if we'd spent any period of time in this bar our clothes would have had to be thrown away afterwards. The bar was always deserted and I'm sure the smell was the reason why. The main pool area was nice and the wifi was good. The whole place could do with a refurbishment though.

Down the street just as you get to the beach there is a supermarket and 2 cafes, do not eat at these places, they were both awful and your better off walking further into the main resort and eating somewhere decent. We ate at Cafe la Ola, Mexican Cantina, Fazz's Indian and had an excellent breakfast at Hot Spot bar. All these places were really good value and top quality food.

We love Puerto Del Carmen for a relaxing break but wouldn't stay at this hotel again. We stayed at the Cinco Plazas last time and we will be choosing there again if we return in the future.

This was great for a Xmas/New year break. The bungalows were well appointed, everything worked and the maid we had was lovely. True, the beds were a little hard, but not too uncomfortable. The bar prices were reasonable and the supermarket well stocked. We were very pleased and we will be coming back soon.

Where to start.

Rude staff.

The receptionist was always talking to a gardener, if you tryed to talk to her she rolled her eyes and huffed. It was like my question was the most unimportant thing for her to deal with.

Dirty Bar

The bar staff didn't like to wash the glasses very often.
Or the tables.

Damp smelling rooms.

All the windows where open when we arrived.
And it still smelt damp.
The blankets smelt damp. Asked the maid to change them.
She shrugged her shoulders and said no English
Went to reception after 10 mins of her talking to the gardener she delt with housekeeping. 20 mins later the maid turned up with 2 new damp smelling blankets

The Beds

The most uncomfortable bed I have ever tryed to sleep in
Went and got a sun bed and slept on that every night.
The lady in the spa wasn't intrested in making any effort to make you feel welcome.

The TV
I didn't mind having to leave a deposit for the remote
We had 2 remotes before the third one worked
But then realized there where only 2 channels to watch.
And the signal was so poor you couldn't watch it anyway

We stayed one week during Christmas holidays, the service is very poor, rooms dirty, beds are very uncomfortable, you'll be better off sleeping on a lump of wood! We didn't venture the restaurant, it was more like a canteen! There was a spa centre but we couldn't book any treatments as the therapist wasn't available or more like could not be bothered to come to work. The receptionist tried to phone her and book massages for us but she wasn't interested!
We rented a car and drove to the mountains and explored the island which was a nice experience. I would like to mention a few lovely restaurants where we had delicious food like the restaurant Verde Mar on the seafront in La Santa, La Paloma in Puerto del Carmen, Casa Roja in the old town.
I would not recommend the Hyde Park Lane Apartments, if you go to Lanzarote, stay away from this place.

Exploring Lanzarote and in particular Isla Graciosa was great, setting out from this hotel, but remembering the place itself, I have mixed feelings.

Hyde Park Lane offers nice bungalow style lodging in a beautifully kept garden and has inviting swimming pools. Our bungalow had perfect furniture in the kitchen and the living room, including the small modern TV set providing a reasonable choice of digital channels.

However, even in a week we did not become real friends with the narrow twin beds sporting exceptionally hard mattresses. Furthermore, one of the beds still contained a plasticized sheet as used for kids.

During our holiday week in December we had rather little sun, some rain, and so even inside the bungalow it was barely warm enough. We felt cold and at night shuddered under the minimal blankets provided. Well, we did not need air conditioning (there was none), but we could not find any means of heating either.

As announced by the hotel, room service was provided only 5 out of 7 days a week.

The restaurant is definitely not for the luxury-minded, nor for the gourmets among us (or, as spoiled Swiss, did we come with too high expectations?). Food for dinner from the help-yourself buffet was missing any culinary refinements (for instance a choice of salad dressings, and showed not much variation from day to day. Breakfast was OK. Maybe we should have relied more on the very good supermarket close to the hotel reception.

Service personnel was friendly and helpful. Among them we recognized even some native German and English speakers who seemed to be very much appreciated by the majority of guests.

To summarize it: The hotel perfectly blends into the mass tourist region at Puerto del Carmen; it is inexpensive, but without refinement. I also wonder whether I would recommend it to the young crowd.

Our hints? - Number 1: Visit Lanzarote by rental car or public transportation. Otherwise you will be limited to group tours, and endless walks along those touristy boardwalks.
Hint Number 2: Visit upscale Puerto Calero some kilometers to the South, and the lonely and unspoiled Playa Quemada. And don't forget to eat fish and tapas in one of the restaurants there.

Booked 2 weeks due to staying here last year, place just the same, bungalows clean, always beds round pool which is quiet at this time of year, very pleasant. The only problem we had was due to heavy rain we had a leak over one of the beds coming through the ceiling, we had to move rooms and were given one next door, no problem just one of those things. Thoroughly enjoyable stay, and would defo. Stay again.

Room Tip: E.mail hotel before arriving to request foam mattress topper because beds very hard
