Just returned from a week at this hotel. Reading some of the mixed reviews I found some of the comments strange. The food on offer was very good for the price you pay. I think some people want 5 star but only pay for 3 star???. The entertainment was OK but the same singer 3 times in a week know what was coming next but not to bad. The rooms were cleaned every day. Wifi in reception is ok. Not sure I would go back to Lanzarote. Not a bad holiday taking everything into consideration.

I wish the management would listen to the guests, everyone we spoke to were having a moan about the food, the restaurant and the entertainment. He restaurant is more like a canteen with three stations offering the same food, there is no variation and the standard is low, by week two we were eating out every night. They have far too many guests and not enough seating, we had to wait for tables to be cleared and sometimes we just walked away because we couldn't get a table. One day my husband tried to take some food to our room for our young daughter who was too tired to go out and he was stopped and told that you couldn't do it, even when he explained they said no.
The entertainment consisted of three of the same acts being repeated, one chap 'Kenny May' was on every other night and even two nights in a row at one point! That isn't good enough!
We found the hotel staff extremely pleasant and loved making a fuss of our daughter which was really nice, the pools are a little cold but once in you'll be fine, just keep moving! We stayed in the hotel part and it was great, but after seeing the apartments I wouldn't have minded staying there either, they did look bigger but I don't think they have air conditioning.
The children's club is fantastic, our daughter is only 3 but she was welcomed in as long as we stayed with her, which was fine because it was fun for me too! They really made her holiday and we're grateful to them.
I would return to lanzarote but I wouldn't stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: We stayed in 1153 and it was lovely, view of the pool and you can walk to the hotel through the gard...

This is our first time at a Riu property and we were very happy with this property. I must say I am pleased to have stayed in the hotel section, rather than the apartments as the hotel rooms were air conditioned and the apartments although looked nice were not air condiioned. It would have been too hot and uncomfortable. The restaurant was superb. Food lovely. The hotels location ideal, quiet, yet lots of shops 5 mins walk away. A small cove beach which was great for kids also 5 mins walk away. The hotel was clean, gardens superb and the pool clean and our daughter ( 11 ) able to have fun with an inflatable. We hired a car to visit Timanfaya worth seeing, also the caves and Jamous de Agua excellent sights to experience.
Lovely hotel, highy reccommend it, staff friendly and helpful.
Only one gripe- Had to pay for Wi-Fi and could only use it in the reception area that was a pain.

Room Tip: We had rooms over on the first floor overlooking the pool. They were lovely.

got back today from the riu olivina today.my daughter and myself couldnt fault this hotel.room was nice ( we was in the hotel ) cleaned every day, could always get a sunlounger no matter what time of day you went.food and drink were good and plentiful ( put on a couple of pounds.lol ) the surprising thing was there wasnt any animation team which didnt bother us as they tend to get in your face so it was very quiet and relaxing.if i had to complain it would be about how ignorant some of the other guests were.ur on holiday for gods sake.whats the rush with pushing in and talking to the staff like crap.they are there to work and are very pleasant and didnt deserve it. ps the pool was freezing but refreshing :-)

5 of us stayed at the Hotel Riu Olivina the first 2 weeks of September on a last minute deal for only £650 each what a bargain for a RIU hotel, well a 3 star RIU hotel and it was just that 3 stars, no frills , very very basic but ok for the price.
We had a first floor rooms in the hotel block with a sea view (we emailed ahead and got just what we asked for)
In a good location, very clean, and as always nowadays the staff were excellent
Free safe, free pool towels, free air conditioning, free TV,, free WIFI and free use of the sports equipment.
The food was ok lots of choice but very basic, pork was served 12 nights in 2 weeks as was Chicken, they also served Liver and onions, Veal, Gammon and pork pie !!!!!
However there are a few things that spoil this hotel, the Children’s pool area in the main hotel needs major repairs the block paving surrounding it is past repair and the volcanic grit gets everywhere, on kids feet , on the sunbeds, in the water, its sharp and painful if you tread on it, they need to get it repaired before someone gets hurt
No Baby changing facilities, the hotel was full of nappy bearing kids and nowhere to change them or put used items, this is 2013 RIU come on
Only 2 toilets in the whole complex
The Kids play area is the same, outdated equipment, sharp splintered timber, and surrounded by sharp volcanic grit!!! It needs updating.
We stayed at the neighbouring RIU hotel a few years ago and that 1 star makes a big difference.
After all that we had a great stay and it could quite easily be a 4 star with a bit of an upgrade

A brief summary,HOTELOLIVINA 4* RESORT, Resort is a very loose term and 4* it is not in total. You have a good 4* Riu hotel, you buy an adjoining apartment block, at most 3*, turn the reception area into a bar and re brand it a RIU. You then buy the Coral apartments, 550 yards down and across the road, at most a 2*, call them The Olivina Hotel, Coral Apartments and hey presto you have an extension to your "Resort", But your guests who stay here have no food or drink facilities on site, they have to go to the firstly converted Riu for a drink during the day, but have to trek to the main hotel for all meals during the day and for any refreshment at night, a dubious description of all inclusive 4* Resort. If this was my first experience of a RIU hotel, I would not stay in one again.

The Good Points
FOOD
Excellent quality and choice for a buffet style all inclusive hotel, with plenty of options for all tastes, including children and vegetarian
DRINKS
Mainly self service at all times for beer, soft drinks and wine even in the restaurant, you only have bar service for spirits and cocktails
STAFF
All very friendly and helpful
ENTERTAINMENT
Personally not bothered, but if this is apart of your holiday, then don't expect much, very limited average and below acts

Points of Concern
4* RESORT
To me a resort is in one place, or at the very least linked as the adjoining apartment block. the Coral apartments are not and I would check where you are staying before booking, unfortunately I thought I'd booked a 4* RIU Hotel, but ended up in 2* accommodation, where the patio doors don"t lock, so they place a bar on the bottom rail to act as a tool to prevent the door being opened, which you remove and replace each time. There is no air conditioning. There is a fan in the bedroom, but if you come as a family and use the sofa bed, it would be difficult to sleep especially in the height of the summer
MAID SERVICE
Appears limited in the Coral, beds were not made every day, that includes the Wednesday when you are told there is no maid service and cleaning, linen changes, towel changes sporadic
INFORMATION
This is non existent in the Coral, nothing to tell about TV channels, the normal pack of information you would expect in a 4* resort.
SAFETY
There is no fire alarm, which in this day and age is appalling. I have stayed in many hotels over the years and even in 3* hotels you have an integral fire alarm system. As I said there is no lock on the patio door
STANDARDS
I am not one to put on your dress suit on holiday, but believe that in a good quality hotel, making an effort to surpass swimming shorts and a vest for dinner is an expectation! Especially when the hotel states that they require men to wear trousers for dinner. As with a lot of hotels they do not enforce it which means those that have taken note and brought smart casual clothes feel over dresses sitting next to the couple in swimming gear!
WIFI
Only available at the main reception, which again is appalling for a supposed 4* hotel, especially if you are staying 550 yards down the road. Most bars now provide free wifi, come on RIU get your act together

Would I return, maybe to the hotel, but certainly not to either apartment building. I think the RIU management should take note before they lose their branding identity, or at least sell the apartments separately as their true rating, which is not 4*
