Given the relatively low cost of the accommodation, I was a little apprehensive when we arrived. We were looking for a self-catering base to explore the island which would offer clean accommodation, privacy, swimming pool and close to the beach. We stayed in Block 8 room 14 and this met all our requirements hands down.
The room was a good size and spotlessly clean with all the amenities you would hope for when going self-catering. As for privacy, the bungalows were so well positioned you would hardly know you had neighbours and blissfully quite (airplanes being only occasional noise but even that was minimal and more of an attraction for the kids). The bungalow was cleaned most days when we were there and the towels changed regularly. On one occasion we requested an extra change of towels and when we arrived back they were on the doorstep waiting for us.
The pool was in good condition and, as an early riser, I can confirm it was cleaned every morning and the site itself was very tidy.
We didn’t eat onsite so can’t comment on the restaurant but certainly the staff were friendly and there was an abundance of alternative food outlets within walking distance. The sea and beach was visible from our Bungalow and only a few minutes’ walk away.
All in all I was very impressed with the accommodation and would / have recommended it to friends and family.

Stayed here July 2013 with my partner and 2 year old child. BLOCK 7 NUMBER 11. First impressions were good, the reception was clean and bright, and receptionist was lovely. However we were transported to our rooms by a very straight faced man who never offered to help with any luggage even though we had a small child and a buggy, never spoke once and was very abrupt. Apartment was very big and spacious, plenty of room, and more than enough facilities for the week. However, every room was crawling with small ants, in the wardrobes, the bath, units and sink. Cockroaches in the kitchen and stuck in the extractor fan! (VERY OFF PUTTING) Paint pealing off every wall, and water damage from the shower! The smell from the back yard was like a sewer and worse midday when it was really hot, holes in the back door, and very noisy!
Bungalows 1 and 2 are fine as they are right by the shops and restaurants. We stayed in block 7 which is a good 10 minute walk up and down hills and steps. pools are very small, and not regularly cleaned, only a few sun loungers, and absolutely no parasols!!! Pool bad closed when its meant to be open! NIGHTMARE. Plus to eat at the restaurant you have to walk to reception (5 min walk) to book your dinner and pay there!! ridiculous! On leaving we were given no help with our luggage, and the luggage trolleys were broken with flat tyres. Reception gave us the wrong directions to catch our bus. If you just want a base, somewhere to crash at night then this is the place!! However if your looking for an all inclusive family relaxing holiday DO NOT BOOK.. tiny pools, no loungers, parasols, no entertainment at all! pool bar closed, and NO enghlish speakers about other than receptionist.

3rd visit to the Bungalows in May 2013 - great location for a relaxing holiday - close to shopping centre/bars/bus stop into Puerto Del Carmen. Stayed in a superior bungalow every time, bee located in block 2, 3 and 8 - block 2 was very close to shopping centre. Had a couple of little issues with the toilet and a door handle - contacted reception and were fixed within an hour.

My wife, myself and two young kids spent 3 weeks in these apts in june/july 2013 and we were delighted we chose these. We have stayed in 2 other apts in Matagorda and these were the best. Staff were very friendly and so helpful. 24 hr reception was only a phonecall away. Last 2 places we stayed reception was open a few hours in the morning and evening which is useless if you need any help. Staff here were able to hire a car and organise any day trip at a cheaper price. Computer in reception to online check in for flights 1 Euro for 20 mins and 1 euro to print each boarding card. Asked for a wake up call at 4am and taxi to collect us at 5.15am for our flight which they were only too happy to do. The Cleaning girl who was very friendly came in 4 or 5 times a week, beds changed and fresh towels every few days. Very close to shops and the beach which is ideal with young kids. Maintenance were efficient when the fridge broke a new one arrived within an hour. Sunbeds always available never had to place towels out. Did not eat in restaurant as the centre was nearer to us. Over all we will be returning as we really enjoyed our holiday

Spent two weeks in these bungalows from 6.6.13 to 20.6.13, my husband, myself, my daughter and 4 year old granddaughter. Paid for 2 superior bungalows, but God knows what they were. I can only describe them as less than basic. Have been to Lanzarote many times, going twice a year and stayed in basic accommodation, but this was always clean with beds changes regularly, towels supplied regularly and apartments cleaned every day. Bungalows Las Gaviotas was the dirtiest place we ever stayed. Paint was flaking off the walls in every room, the floors were very dirty and the sofa that we were supposed to sit on was filthy, smelling of other peoples odours and very badly stained. The front and back doors looked as if they had been chewed by some animal with enormous teeth! There were gaps in the front door which was very ill fitting and during the night when the wind got up, rattled and banged as did the bedroom window. This made the night time feel very eerie. The cleaner seemed very reluctant to do any work at all, telling us that she was too busy to change our beds, therefore, in the fortnight we were there, our beds were only changed once. We were also asked on another occasion if she could leave the cleaning and come back the next day. I don!t know if management were aware of this work schedule she had as they never seemed to bother to come round the bungalows or site to check on anything, neither were they very pleasant as we never saw them smile once. We ended up buying our own toilet roll as well as we were only given one toilet roll now and again. The dust under the bed was unbelievable - no mattress protectors or protectors on the pillows. We weren't impressed with the pool either as this was rather dirty as well, hardly cleaned. We had often passed these bungalows and thought that we would like to stay there and so decided to treat ourselves to an ugrade this year, but what a waste of money! We will definitely not stay here again and would discourage anyone from booking a holiday at this resort. We will continue to holiday in Lanzarote and stay in Matagorda, but will definitely not book another holiday at LAS GAVIOTAS. Beware and stay here at your peril.

Room Tip: I don't know what tip to give travellers about choosing a good room as we certainly didn't s...
