“Never Again - Don't Waste Your Money on This Hotel”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

How bad is this hotel? Well, lets begin with the photos and description I read when purchasing the ten day stay. "Two bed two bathroom apartment", they said. "Every room has a sea view", they said. Well, from our block, you could see the sea if you squinted through buildings and trees. What we thought was going to be a two bathroom apartment turned out to be an apartment with one bathroom and one en-suite. The ensuite would have been OK if I had been an Oompa Loompa - the toilet was right next to the sink, so I had to go to the toilet sideways. Not ideal. The shower tray was rusty and the shower curtain was off colour and smelt dank.

Their idea of a double bed is to put two singles together, held in place by a flimsy double sheet. The headboards from the standard two singles are bolted to the wall, so moving a single bed across made it look ridiculous. Then there were the mosquitos - buzzing around the plants and trees outside our balcony - we were bitten to shreds on nights one and two before we purchased mosquito plugins. Only one electric point in the bedroom, between the two singles which meant when the double bed was together, the electric point was hidden.

Other hotels and bars on the Island provide Wi-Fi for free. This hotel doesn't. The minimum period for Wi-Fi is a week, which isn't ideal when you have two days left. Why they don't provide it for free is beyond me. 15 euro for five days is too much. Even printing a boarding pass was charged at 20 cents. Even then, you had to login EVERYTIME you wanted to use it, which became a pain.

The marketing said 'satellite tv'. Well, I don't consider satellite television to be BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, Channel Four and E4. We had a television that came from 1974, big and grey. We had a power cut during our holiday as well, right in the middle of preparing something to eat. Ants in the kitchen added a certain spice to our occasional mealtimes in the apartment. No dishwasher. The sofa and two chairs would be better described as a bench and chairs with a foam cover. The cleaners came every other day and did not change the bed sheets. The room had a damp atmosphere, which meant it felt like you were going to sleep every night on damp sheets. No aircon or fan either.

I know for a fact that there are better hotels than this at the same price. Just across the road was another hotel my friend stayed in for one night, and had flat screen television in the sitting room and bedroom, jacuzzi, double bed, aircon and fan, dishwasher for the same price.

I am disgusted at this hotel. The English receptionist did not even take us to our rooms nor show us around, or explain anything, not even the route to the beach. The toilet in the swimming pool area was better than the ensuite I had to endure.

I am seriously considering getting my money refunded. I advise you to avoid this hotel at all costs and to spend your hard earned money more wisely than we did.

The Costa Luz apartments are not a hotel. They are self-catering apartments. All our apartments do have a sea-view but some are better than others. Beachfront apartments, for example, have panoramic sea-views. We have different categories of apartments, depending on which block you stay in and this is reflected in the price you pay. Usually dependent on the weather, mosquitoes can be around the whole of Lanzarote and everyone in Costa Luz is advised to use plugins if there happen to be mosquitoes. Some bars have free Wi-Fi but nearly all hotels and apartments in Lanzarote charge something for Wi-Fi. Power cuts are rare in Lanzarote but they can happen just as they do in the UK. Unfortunately we have no control over this. We cannot deal with a complaint, such as ants, if it is not reported to reception. Costa Luz is set in extensive mature gardens and ants may appear in an apartment usually if food or rubbish is left lying around in the apartment for too long. There is free satellite TV transmitted via our satellite dish which includes the most popular English and German channels available. The sheets are always changed once a week, on this occasion on the 22nd of March and towels are changed twice a week. Nearly all apartments have flat screen TVs. All superior and superior beachfront apartments have flat screens.

Booked 1 bed and got a 2 bed in block 3 - large, spotless, well equiped kitchen. Really quiet complex, beautifully maintained - lots of sun loungers and umbrellas at heated pool !! This was my 10th trip to Lanzaroate and without doubt best location I have stayed in - will definitely be back

Having had 4 holidays in Club Oceano and 4 in the Princesa Ico apartments, we decided to give Costa Luz a try this time. As usual the UK office staff, and Lanzarote receptionists, were very friendly and efficient. Our first surprise was getting upgraded from a 1 to a 2 bed apartment. There was lots of room, and we actually liked the firm beds. The bathroom was in need of a bit of a refurb. but - as usual - everything was clean and the apartments were serviced (and towels changed) twice during our one week stay. No hot water problems as far as we were concerned, and there were extra blakets if needed. Anyone going to Lanzarote during the winter months should be aware that it is a windy island and chilly - especially near the sea - in the evenings. (So take a cardi/jumper etc). We were nearer the road than sea, but still had nice balcony views of the lovely (well kept) gardens and pool, and I particularly liked the sun beds placed in little areas amongst the gardens.

We had a great stay at the apartments in February 2013. We arrived and were greeted by Pammie on reception, who could not have been more helpful.

The apartment was well furnished with everything we could've needed and was very spacious. The only slight niggle would be that the kitchen was not spectacularly well equipped, but this was a relatively minor irk considering how nice the rest of the apartment was.

In terms of local facilities, you couldn't choose a better place. The beach is your front garden, you don't even have to cross the road to get to it! There are three supermarkets within very close walking distance, along with a number of other shops and restaurants. The beach itself stretches uninterrupted for quite a way, providing a lovely walk and far reaching view from the balcony of the apartments. Local people are generally very friendly.

The local bus service stops outside the next hotel along the road, and there are good transport links to the rest of the island. In my opinion, you will not need a car even if you intend to explore other resorts.

I would thoroughly recommend staying here and am considering another trip later in the year.

(fitness centre and room service only rated as one star as they are not provided)

Room Tip: Go for apartments near to the beach. Lovely to wake up with a view of the sea.

Very comfortable stay in this Superior Beach Front Appartment. Wonderful sunshine on the balcony until 1.30 then a seat by the pool or a short walk o the beach. Only down side was the bedrooms were a little chilly and there were no heaters. We will most definately come back.

Room Tip: Beach facing are a must

i have been here many times as well as other properties they own and never been disappointed, the staff are friendly, apartments always clean and the grounds. however wanted to go back again this year (for the 14th time with ocean club hols) with more family including infants i find them too expensive, i find it unreasonable that an infant or child counts as occupancy therefor counts towards adult price. for one there is nothing on any 3 complexes for infants other than a pool shared by all. why would families pay over the odds to stay here when there is nothing for their children when they can stay in the resort cheaper in just as nice hotels or apartments and their children go free or reduced price plus have things to do.even airlines dont charge infants full price and under 2s free. im afraid because of this i wont be staying with them again.

on arrival was greeted by patsie at 9.00pm. It was a bank holiday and patsie had already bought us milk and water in case the shop was closed. We have never been before so this kind of service is fantastic. Our room had everything we needed and block 6 looks over the beach, directly. You open your window shutter to the most breath taking view. truly superb. The apartment was clean and everything worked. Our door handle fell of and was replaced in 5 minutes of telling reception. Pool lovely, was quiet around the pool but with the choice of beach or pool being so close we had a choice. The situation was ideal, £4.00 to get to the old town but also on a local bus route to either end of the strip. very handy. It was January and must say the only down side was I should have taken more jumpers for the evening, pretty chilly. Overall, loved the break and the apartment, no complaints and will return

Room Tip: block 6 - front facing.
