Beatriz Playa & Spa
Ranked #42 of 91 Hotels in Puerto Del Carmen
Reviewed August 6, 2013

Back in March we visited Beatriz Playa & Spa.
I have to say I was pretty suprised as how good it was.
The food for typically spanish which was great and the accomodation was spot on.
Directly opposite from the beach and childrens play area and a great spa.
The cost I thought it was a bit expensive but all in all not disappointed.

Thanks

Room Tip: Try and get a sea view room!!

The negatives: To begin, we did not recieve the 'beach view' we were promised. Secondly, do not use the computers in the Wi-Fi area as the Internet speed is atrocious, as was the free Wi-Fi. The cocktails were pre-made, though still quite tasty (but impossible to get drunk off if that's what you're going for). The service at the bar was not what we're used to at home and in the evening this caused serious queues (never queued for a bar in my life!). Also, the entertainment was generally a bit odd and in our opinion more geared towards the Spainish guests. At times we felt that we were bothering the reception staff when dealing with them, though at other times they we excellent - think it depended on who was working. The all-inclusive wristbands were a real nuisance too and were fairly uncomfortable. Finally, and worst of all, the thing that was most irritating (a Europe-wide problem to be fair) - people getting up early to reserve sunbeds and then not returning for most of the day - we were very tempted to launch a few towels into the pools on more than one occasion. Hotel management would need to get a hold of the situation (which wouldn't be difficult) as some days we found it nearly impossible to get a sunbed, in spite of numerous laps around the pool area.

The positives: The food was excellent, varied and unlimited and the restaurant staff (especially the blonde girl) and chefs were polite and also good craic - we would definitely recommend the all incclusive option as we never got bored of the buffet. The water polo at the pool was pretty intense and taken very seriously so was enjoyable to play if you've got a competitive streak. We never saw the birds as a major problem, rather, it was the constant breeze/wind lowing over the island which contributed to much of the mess of spilt drinks around the pool, but that can't be avoided. The hotel's interior was unique and fun to explore. The room cleaning was excellent though we didn't experience any of the famous towel folding skills of the staff. The dual sinks in the ensuite were a definite bonus and prevented any inter-couple rivalry. The planes didn't cause any nuisance whatsoever and were great to watch, we never got bored of seeing them fly in. Hotel is in a great location altogether - basically on the beach, close to the airport, always the first or very last for excursion pickups so there was no extra time spent sitting on buses, close to Matagorda and Dave and Marie's Auld Triangle pub which showed live GAA and also close enough, yet far enough away from noisy and tacky Peurto del Carmen (a great walk along the promenade to and from).

Could definitely see ourselves coming back one day, but would love to see the management really push the hotel into the excellent category with a bit of a refurbishment!

Also, we didn't realise that the smaller pool was heated until the final night. Raging!

Just back this evening - know where we would rather be. Spotless hotel spotless resort to be fair. Staff all very polite professional and courteous. Work hard and always have time for guests. Burger bar was a hit not just for burgers but salad and tuna sarnies too. Never had to queue for restaurant. Excellent choice in the restaurant. Really have nothing other than praise and have no hesitation in recommending the hotel. 5 mins from airport this morning. Now ref the resort I know they say it breezy but this is no breeze it's windy. Which is deceiving in the day but cooling to a degree but at night you need a jacket or cardy - ladies and kids I was froze walking that prom at night. Auld triangle was great night in the centre at matagorda. To summarise definitely would go back to both beatriz playa and matagorda

We visit Matagorda,on a regular basis, and this was our first visit to this hotel. And what a surprise, the hotel was superb, from the first check in to the final handing over of the key(card).
Prior to our visit we noticed one room in particular that was recommended so decided to send an email,to request this room,if possible.
On I arrival the check in was simple and easy, plenty of staff on to deal with influx of guests, and to our surprise we had been allocated the room we had asked for.
The view from the room was fantastic, with a panoramic view of the coastline and the airport, great to sit and watch the planes arrive, although there is know problem with the noise.
The rooms I thought were to a high standard ,with toiletries provided, maid service every day,and after a day we came in to see that a kettle and coffee had been supplied, and a tv with some English Chanel's .
This was the first time we had been All Inclusive,so was a little apprehensive ,but this proved to be premature ,the food was very good indeed, none of the waiting that we were expecting, and the choice was great.
One thing to mention the lunchtime bar by the pool. The food here,(the sittings start at 1.00)was very good indeed,so much choice, and plenty going off, from fresh fish to sirloin steak, and great Danish pasteries.
The staff were very good, and at night you never had to wait for long to get served in the bar,the guys there worked tirelessly ,and we're always professional and friendly, the only downside, apart from the kids entertainment,I thought that the adults could have been a little better, but that's it.
I will definitely be returning to this hotel, and would recommend it to anyone, and one last mention for the rep Ellen, always there with a smile, and nothing was too much trouble, looking forward to our next visit, this hotel and matagorda are gems,oh and one last thing,we always managed to get a sunbed, plenty for everyone,

Just got back from a weeks stay here (25th Jul - 1st Aug 2013) having stayed as a family of 3 (we were on the 3rd floor with a view towards Matagorda/Puerto del Carmen)... Largely agree with all the recent comments/posts/reviews - Yes, the hotel does show its age and could do with a refurb *but* don't let this put you off! Overall it is very clean - the rooms were cleaned daily to a great standard as was the rest of the hotel. Do agree with the previous post about the pool area though - could have done with a little more hosing down (sticky spilled drinks from the previous day)

We went All Inclusive with Thomas Cook - Great on-site rep (Thank you Ellen) but little disappointed that the hotel doesn't include the safe (charged at €3/day), the fridge (again, €3/day) or the Kettle (but Ellen [our rep] has negotiated a deal with the hotel to give all her guests that free!) I Guess this is where "European All Inclusive" is different to those further away... Someone earlier mentioned having to pay for WiFi - whilst this is true if you want fast access anywhere in the hotel, there is a "Free WiFi Area" just round the back of reception - not the fastest WiFi I've seen but fast enough to cope with FaceTIme and save those expensive data roaming charges when you just want to surf the web :)

Food was great - ok, the "show cooking" is more 2 chefs standing behind a grill but can't fault the quality or quantity... As to the bird problem, I would say it is something that the management has taken note of and done something about it - they don't leave all the doors open now (so birds have less chance of getting in) and all the doors now have pictures of Birds of Prey on them (I assume to scare the smaller birds but not being a small bird, I'm only going on what I've read ;) ) - speaking of Birds of Prey, there was one on patrol for 2 or 3 nights of our stay - again to scare of the smaller feather friends...

People have said about long queues at evening meal times - we were advised to go to the first sitting (19:00 - 20:00) and would agree/recommend this - never had to queue once (apart from getting the actual food)... Pool bar is great (being smaller and having its own kitchen I think the food is better prepared) but does get busy quickly so if you want to go there, get there for just after it opens... They seem to have introduced a €5/person charge in the Chinese when we went - food was good but not a "traditional Chinese"... Burger bar was great, Italian was OK (nothing special) just a little surprised at the opening times - would have been nice for the burger bar to be open 7 days a week (just to give you more of a choice) but otherwise can't really fault anything.

As to the planes... Yes, it is near the airport and yes, you can hear them come and go but, to be honest, we didn't think it was as bad as some have said... In the day the animation team are out and about and with all that's going off round the pool you really don't tend to notice them... Guess having a room the other side of the hotel to the airport may have helped though but it is fun watching them come in... Like others, we took a walk down to the end of the runway (aprox 15 mins) and it is interesting to stand directly below a landing place (and I mean directly below - you can stand in-line with the landing lights which are in the water between the runway and the sea!)

Having mentioned the Animation Team, think owe them a little review... They were great - put in some long hours and considering there are so few of them they do a fab job... Evening entertainment (outside performers) were generally very good - would agree with the comments about the drinks at the evening bar though - there are basically 2 or 3 bar staff on and you do get a queue forming to get your drinks (there is a machine for tea/coffee but anything else you have to get via the bar) but, on the plus side, at least everyone gets served in turn and your not pushing and jostling for position at the bar wondering when/if you'll ever get served...

Location for us was great - it is on the outskirts of Puerto del Carmen so tends to be on the quieter side - don't get me wrong, still plenty to do - a small shopping centre 5/10 mins away and another one a little further but it's biggest plus point was you are generally one of the first pick up points for any day trips so get good choice of seats...

And last, but not least, got to mention the staff - they were all very friendly and helpful with fast efficient service... Would I go again? YES

Room Tip: 3rd floor higher number rooms (above 75) are further from the airport so are quieter

This is my 1st review I have written , beatriz playa is overall a great place to stay lots of good points the food was great lots of variety ,beatriz burger especially and not just for the burgers the salads are great too , the ice cream parlour was also a bonus and the fact that at the pool bar area you could help yourself to the fizzy drinks ,water and tea etc from the machines instead of waiting at the bar to be served , we didn't like the oriental restaurant as it wasn't like proper Chinese food you would expect , room cleaned every day and clean towels .

The only things that bothered me was the big line of people waiting for drinks in the evening ,although the staff worked very hard to serve everyone as soon as they could but I think some drinks should be served elsewhere as we only wanted soft drinks and water to take up to the room

Also the pool area didn't seem to get hosed down on a daily basis ,there was still sticky drinks on the ground from the previous day and the guy that cleaned the pool seemed to take a long time to finish ,some mornings it was well after 10am before he finished cleaning the pools

Overall a great holiday

My family, 2 adults 3 children (8,6,4) arrived at Beatriz on July 17th. We were really impressed with the hotel facilities. The restaurant had something for all of us, breakfast was a real treat. The pool bar and lunch were also ticking the boxes. Our room again was spot on, sometimes as a family with 3 kids it can be difficult to get a room but our Junior suite was perfect. 3 beds in one room with lounge area and TV, a separate room for Mom and Dad with lounge area TV and Bathroom off this room and good size balcony.
Unfortunately our holiday was cut short because of a family bereavement. When we got this news I contacted Eric the hotel manager. He was so accommodating nothing was too much trouble. I would like to thank him for his kindness and understanding at a difficult time for us. At times like this human nature shines through. We look forward to returning to Beatriz soon and thanking you in person.
