“A nice hotel but could be better”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2013

I will start by saying that we did have a nice holiday. This is a very large complex made up of 2 hotels the 2nd being linked by a walkway accessible via the reception area or you can walk through the gardens at ground level. What the management are trying to create is one large resort, I dont feel they have entirely achieved this. All the focus is on the main hotel i.e the facilities including reception, restaurants and entertainment, leaving the other building out of it offering only a bar which is open for drinks and snacks during the day but is closed for breakfast and evening meal. There is an amazing reception area in the 2nd building but it is not used such a shame. Swimming pools are located on both sites. Our room was at the beginning of the 2nd building however if you are placed at the end then you are in for a very long walk.
In total there are 3 speciality restaurants. An Asian open every night, the Mexican and Canarian cuisine opens on different nights and shares the same premises. You are entitled to visit each one once per week. They are all good with the Asian being the best I recommend you book on arrival because, the main buffet restaurant was disappointing it is over crowded and far too small.Buffet style meals with food located at different points resulting in lots of people walking from one side to another. For breakfast you can eat outside however smokers are a problem. The food selection is very good, hot and fresh. Unless you are a vegatarian my friend always found something to eat but the choice was bland.
There is only one large bar area with covered outdoor seating again smokers are again an issue also in winter it is cold so take a warm jumper. With no indoor bar the only quiet place is the reception area but then to get a drink you have to walk down a flight of stairs. The evening entertainment was in a cramped over crowded theatre we did not find this appealing and gave it a miss.
The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. Mosquitos were a problem. We were unhappy that only 1 key is available per room. Also the free safe works on a key and not a code. So if you lost your keys someone has access to your valuables.
The animation team focus on the main hotel pool. Being located at the other pool I saw them walk past at speed not really encouraging clients to join in the activites.
The hotel is clean the pool area and gardens are lovely and well maintained. I found all the staff including the Thomson reps very friendly and helpful.
I spoke with the managment about our thoughts and was advised that improvements are planned. I hope they go ahead as they will turn the resort from good to excellent.

Spent a really good week at this hotel three years ago, so was looking forward to going again, but things have changed and not for the better. Having E-Mailed the hotel with room request, that was just as we wanted, nice location and very clean. The dining room is just not big enough for the number of guests and there is a lack of space which doesn't make you feel very comfortable as you invariably are in very close proximity when eating with complete strangers. To escape the scrum we dined in the speciality restaurants, the Asian was absolutely excellent. .Staff were very friendly also the entertainment crew and reception, but try to avoid one of the barmen, Jesus, as during our week it seemed as if he went out of his way to give us the wrong drinks, probably five times. Management really should do something about the sunbeds being reserved with towels, sometimes not being used all day, very frustrating. Cane chairs on the terrace area are in need of checking, as many have sharp broken edges. As we had a later flight but our room was not available for the extended time period till 1.00pm we reluctantly rented a room, but seriously, 45 euros! over the top methinks!
We have stayed many times at Riu hotels but this is by no means 4 star standard, I think that by the number of managers there during the holiday Riu must realise this already and hopefully put things right

A very cramped flight, and a late night arrival did not help, nor the long walk to our room in the annex.
But next morning with 26 degrees and little in the way of cloud made us soon forget that.
We had a great November break.

Spotlessly clean, with helpful staff all made for a good time. Plenty of choice and quantity of food and wines were added attractions.
Food did become a little repetitive and could be a little bland on occasion.

Would we go again - Yes

Room Tip: Well if you do not relish a 1/4 mile walk each morning, each way. Try to get a room in the main buil...

Stayed in august 2013 and thought it was.perfect for family'. Yes it is large but I like tha rooms big with separate seating area with sofa and table large balcony.
Went to buffet restaurant where there was plenty of choice also went to the other 3 restaurants Chinese canarian and mexican and really enjoyed them. Drinks fine for an all inclusive even get cava included. Pools massive. Animation if you want to join in kids mini disco is a little late at 9 . Didnt see the shows as had to take our baby to bed. Overall v good

Hotel RIU Paraiso
Reception was well organised with luggage deposited in the check in area whilst lunch was taken. After lunch rooms were allocated and cases sent ahead. The hotel is very large and it was difficult to find the way to our allocated room which proved to be a suit between the two parts of the hotel and close to the main road. Although it was spacious we found that it was lacking in privacy with a view into the room from the main road and with a shared balcony. In addition the furniture was worn and grubby. We therefore requested a move into the old Palace Hotel and were allocated a room overlooking the pool with afternoon sun.
All drinks are served in plastic containers, which is understandable around the pools. These are replaced with glasses in the main bar at 1745 in time for pre dinner drinks. So don't ask for a sherry before this time or you will get it served in a plastic tumbler. The Palace bar opens at 1030 for drinks and at 1200 for snacks. The main bar opens between 1030 and 2359 but there is no bar in the old palace after 1800. This is a shame as the old reception area would make a really nice piano bar say between 1830 and 2230 in order to have a quieter/warmer area for drinks. The main bar area is quite cold at times despite being fitted with calor gas patio heaters. Wicker chairs and tables in the main bar area are showing signs of wear and tear ,with broken ends on both being liable to cause damage to clothing. Smoking in the bar is limited to those seats outside the building line but because there is very little to separate the inside from the outside non smokers suffer from smoke inhalation.
Our second room was smaller but the furniture was much better with removable covers on the two arm chairs. The beds were indeed rock hard as reported by previous correspondents. The voltage is 120 volt with two sockets in the room and one in the bathroom available for use, so take a couple of type C adaptors and a light weight four way extension lead with you. A hairdryer is fitted in the bathroom but there is no shaver socket. However the type C adaptor will take the two pin connector for your razor.
Food was beyond criticism in any of the restaurants; we ate in all four and enjoyed each of the themed ones on several occasions. Of these the Oriental is the most popular. The main restaurant struggles to cope shortly after opening times due to the large numbers, 1100 out of up to1400 or so guests during our stay.
Snack bars open at 1200 in both pool areas with burgers, pizzas, hot dogs and salads being available if you wish to eat before the main restaurant opens at 1300. The main restaurant opens at 1800 for the evening meal.
Staff are generally very welcoming throughout the hotel from reception through to the bars and restaurants. The hotel is kept immaculately clean by the army of maids, whilst the ground staff keep the gardens looking wonderful. One small criticism is that the footpaths are made up using ceramic tiles and in several areas in the older parts these have become cracked and broken with open joints capable of capturing ladies shoe heals. Some of the night lighting in these areas was not operational
All in all the two separate parts do not work as well as the purpose built RIU Hotels previously visited.

Room Tip: The Old Palace if you like it quite and dont mind the walk but ask for a pool view.

Not the best Riu hotel we have been to, is it really 4 Star !?!
Visited 4 years ago previously and in our eyes, it needs up dating
Stayed in the annex hotel as requested by email, as requested a quiet high floor room with pool view.
Dislikes .. wine poor, cocktails premade, tables too close together, rooms need updating, no tea/coffee making facilities, beds hard, no free Wi-Fi, sun beds too close, entertainment poor.

Likes...free safe/ fridge in room, free bottled water, staff friendly, reception staff helpful, response from email, location.

As a Riu Class card holder we shall not be returning to this hotel.

We stayed from the 28.11.13 to 5.12.13 with our friends who were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. Friendly staff, wonderful food including caviar, fresh salmon, prawns, mussels but only small downside was tables were a little close togethor in the restaurant. Great selection of drinks and free all day and evening no time limits. Lovely Cava, cocktails and plently of spirits and beer. Wine and beer were on tap to help yourself as were lots of soft drinks. Food in Asian restaurant was really good and would suggest booking speciality restaurants on first day of your holiday. Rooms very clean and site in general very tidy and well managed. Free bottled water and safe in room. Would definately stay again.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a family room at the furthest end of the site and these were quiet despite being...
