“Nice hotel but just about 4 star”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2010

Just our opinion but after having stayed in numerous 4star rated hotels this one just about makes the grade but is still a very pleasent place to stay in a good location if you are fit and active and enjoy a walk or are prepared to pay for taxis.

Reception very welcoming and greeted by name and room ready which is always a bonus. The room was not bad at all big enough for the three of us without us tripping over each other. We seemed to have aquired a larger room which had a rounded end and a larger balcony than most as it was a semi circle in shape, still only grumble here that there was only two chairs!!! Bathroom clean although no bidet which was a surprise for a four star, still towels were changed without us having to throw them in the bath.

We had arrived New Years Eve for the gala evening but i will not say too much about that just to say that it was a little more than disappointing

Breakfast the next morning was back to the normal buffet spread which after having read some reviews on here we had expected to find a glorious and different selection than we did, although there was more than adequate for anyone to choose from it lacked a little quality than we have had from other hotels in lanzarote. Although the hotel was resonably quiet in the period we stayed there still was queues for the cooked to order omelettes that where only able to be done two at a time not sure how much this would annoy the most patient of people when the hotel would be full!.

Evening meal was much the same with a choice of cooked meat and fish along with the usual accompaniments and salad sometimes not an easy choice for a fussy 13 year old it would have to be said that the hotel certainly catered more for the German and Spanish food tastes.

Entertainment in the evening is laid on by the hotel but some nights would only last for 30 mins. We never participated in the day time activities so can not comment .

A few wee niggles some areas of the hotel and grounds had tape across them for the duration of our stay making it look like a crime scene out of some CSI program, toilets in the bar area were closed for the week meaning only one toilet in reception available which on occasions became blocked not very pleasent meaning a somewhat long walk to the room for such facilities! There seemed also to be a real lack of hot water after 6pm not great after a long day walking and in need of a soak.

Its a nice place to stay if you want a quiet area not too much happening at night and average food

Beware though we had a taxi from the airport to the hotel which was 5 Euros but the taxi which reception booked for us to the airport cost a whooping 11 Euros

We spent 6 nights half board at Hotel La Geria just before Christmas (flew home 23rd Dec) and had a great time. The hotel is at the quieter end of Puerto del Carmen which is why we chose it (if you enjoy livelier bars it takes 20 minutes to walk/4 euros taxi to get to the main strip or 40 minutes/6 euros to reach the old town and harbour). We've been to Lanzarote a few times before and so had no desire to sightsee on this holiday and the hotel suited our needs entirely: sitting beside a lovely swimming pool reading books, being a stones throw from the beach for walks along the front and providing a wide variety of food in the restaurant. Each night there was a choice of 2 meat/2 fish pieces that could be freshly cooked for you as well as other meat/fish dishes cooked in sauces. The rice dishes were lovely and there was a good selection of vegetables and salad. I don't eat meat and was happy with the variety on offer for me. The only disappointment food wise was the puddings - they looked appetising but were mostly fairly tasteless sponge cakes and jellies. Ice cream and platters of fruit were always available though so we had a little something sweet to finish off our dinner without feeling too stuffed.

The staff at the hotel were all terrific especially the waiters in the restaurant. Some people have posted negative reviews about hidden extras but paying deposits (which you get back) to ensure items are returned is the norm these days. Towels are 10e which is refunded when you hand them back and a kettle for our room was 5e deposit and 7e charge for the week (i'll borrow a travel kettle from a friend next time). We had a couple of days rain during our stay (while the rest of Europe was getting snow) and we just cosied down on the large comfy sofas in the bar area and read our books. I had wondered if we'd be badgered to order drinks but were happily left alone with our bottles of water!

I've marked 4 stars for value only because we thought half board would include drinks and it didn't (nor does full board). This wasn't a huge problem in itself but I would have preferred to know that before we'd arrived there (might I have booked somewhere else? who knows). We hadn't anticipated needing much money during our stay so had only taken a little cash for afternoon snacks. Wine was expensive (to our very small budget anyway - 16e for the house red - so we tended to drink water with our food and go out for drinks after. There's a Spar shop down the road so you can stock up on your own water/soft drinks/booze at reasonable prices. (and our fridge was on already even though the literature in the room said there was a charge to use it).

I'd happily go back to Hotel La Geria and if you are a returning customer and book direct they will give you 10% off. If you register with their own website they also offer various deals with up to 20% off http://www.hipotels.com/en/offers.html

My husband and I stayed for a week in this hotel and found it quiet and convenient to the main night life of Peurto del Carmen. German tourists aside, this is the perfect hotel for a real get away and the staff, service, food and entertainment was top notch. You will not be disappointed with this hotel. You will have no regrets. Only thing I would say is bring a radio/iPod with you as the TV is only either in German or Spanish - only English channel you can get is EuroSports!!! If you do go into town in the evening it's hard to beat the Dubliner for a bit of craic...

Stayed in this hotel in November for a week. First the cons the bedrooms are extremely small and are L shaped. Two people can not pass in the room. Food was very basic and extremely repedative. This hotel is mainly used by german clients and caters for their preferences. In the evening dinner tables are reserved by drinks being placed on the table or in some cases name cards. The pool area is surrounded by palm trees and you have to keep moving to sunbathe. The safety deposit box, towels for the pool, minibar all are subject to a deposit. I enquired at reception as I could not find the TV remote and I was told that there was a 10 euro deposit but the only english speaking channel was Euro Sport. For a 4 star hotel I would expect more english speaking channels. The only good point is the hotel location it is directly across the road from the beach. If you are looking for a hotel with entertainment and activities give this hotel a miss.

Just back from our stay at La Geria and we had a wonderful time. The hotel was spotless and the staff were friendly and helpful. The pool area was lovely. We stayed half board and found the food to be very good with a wide choice both at breakfast and dinner. We would definately recommend this hotel for a relaxing holiday for couples and more mature adults.

Friendly staff, good sized swimming pool, excellent buffet food (requires considerable self restraint!) in quieter part of resort - 30min walk to Puerto del Carmen along excellent promenade; 1 hour walk to old port ; 20 mins walk to airport perimeter : close encounters with landing aircraft a dramatic feature !

I was a solo guest with mobility problems. Although the hotel does not have rooms adapted for disabilities, the baths were quite low and there were ramps everywhere throughout the hotel. I had a mobility scooter hired out and it fitted into the bedroom with no problem so I could charge it overnight. The area is very flat with easy access for crossing roads etc. The hotel itself was great and the staff were very helpful and friendly. They go out of their way to make sure you have what you need. I noticed there was a lot of repeat custom. The food was very good - I stayed half board. Breakfast was buffet, with omelette and fried eggs and lovely crispy bacon cooked in front of you to your liking. There was lots of fruit, cereals, yoghurts and a great variety of breads and cakes. Dinner was also a buffet with lots of choices of fishes, meats etc cooked to your liking and of course the salads (the one thing Spain do well). The staff in the dining room were particularly nice and efficient, especially Roberto, but I think they might have been a bit under staffed . I have stayed in the Sol Lanzarote and Beatriz Playa hotels nearby, but this was by far the best and I will go again. Entertainment is hit and miss and usually only for about 60 to90 mins. for 5 nights a week. They could do a lot better. The bar was empty most nights. There were a few Irish music bars and supermarket about two minutes walk from the hotel.
