This is a new hotel - apparently they were private apartments but have been extensively refurbed to a high standard. We were booked to stay at the THB Flora, but on arrival we were told they had over booked us and we would be staying at the Izaro. Our intial disappointment was soon gone when we saw this hotel! It is lovely.
As we'd paid for all inclusive, this is what we got at the Izaro (though it seemed we were the only ones who had this option). The apartment was great, very big, very good self catering facilities and all brand new.
The thing that really struck us was the cleanliness - they cleaned the apartments every day, and there were always staff cleaning the floors and the pool area.
The staff were really friendly and very helpful. Not all spoke english, but we tried our (awful) Spanish and you could definately get by. The reception staff are fluent though.
The food at dinner was absolutely amazing. It's all buffet style, but they served a great selection of meat, salad and seafood every night (including fresh prawns and calamari!). Breakfast got a bit boring as it was the same every day, but a good selection of pastries, yoghurt, fruit, toast and hot food.
The location was good, about 10 minutes to walk to the old harbour. We had dinner there one night over looking the sea - it was beautiful. It's a 15 - 20 minute walk to Play Grande which is the main beach and strip. The beach is huge! Walking back is an effort as it is all up hill, but taxi's are extremely cheap.
So all good except one thing.......
The pool area. The pool itself was really nice. However, the same old problem of people putting towels out at the crack of dawn everyday prevailed and then going out for the day. I found this extremely irritating but then I suppose that's the way it is!
But the thing that would actually stop us from going back was that everyday at about 10am, the music started. It was put on by the overly enthusiastic entertainment guy, who would try and drag you into the pool to do aqua fit. It doesn't sound like that much of an issue, but it was extremely loud and from 10am to 6pm every day, for the 7 days we were there - it was THE SAME CD! On repeat. We had an apartment next to the pool, so by day three, if we wanted to chill out, we had to go away from the hotel, or listen to the Macarana every 40 minutes. I could tell you every song in the order it was played. It was not good.
It's such a shame, because honestly apart from that, we had a great time and a comfortable stay at this lovely hotel.
