“Brilliant Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2011

Myself and my boyfriend travelled from the 4th - 18th Sept and it was our first time visiting Lanzarote. Cinco Plaza Apartments are a 10-15 min drive from the airport which is brilliant after a 4hr flight.
Once we arrived at apartments, we were checked in and in our apartment within 5 mins. We booked a one bed, first floor apart with a pool view and that was exactly what we got. Our apt was over-looking the main pool. The apt was perfect, very spacious with a large balcony. The cleaning service was brilliant, she came 10 days over our stay, changed the towels 6/7 times and the bedclothes twice. As we were not sure what days she would come, sometimes our towels would be left on the balcony to dry and she even went out, picked them up and left fresh ones. We did NOT recieve any thread bare towels. I would advise to ask for a first floor apt (depending if it is suitable to your needs) as it can be quite hot at night so at least we could leave the windows open. Our living area window would not lock so we mentioned it to the receptionist by the time we had walked back to the apt, the maintenance man was waiting for us and had it fixed within five mins. All staff we encountered were extremely friendly and they always had a smile. If I was to mention a drawback, the floors are not overly clean, they are mopped but I dont think with boiling water so if not wearing shoes the soles of your feet will be brown. The pool area & complex was very clean, washed every morning. It is very safe, side gate locked every night at 10. We went to the beach everyday but there always seemed to be 2/3 lifeguards working in the complex. We did not drink or eat in complex so I cannot advise on prices. There always seemed to be entertainment there (karoke, kids disco, quizes etc.) Dont use the shop on site as it is expensive, turn left outside the complex and there is a hiperdino supermarket (under Spinnaker pub) within a 1 min walk which will have all the essentials.
All bars/restaurants mostly to the right at bottom of hill and the old town is also beautiful with some lovely places to eat. We hired a safe €30 for our stay with €5 deposit, I thought it was expensive but after reading previous reviews I wanted piece of mind. There was no sign of trouble during our stay and definitely no sign about any break-ins in the complex, so maybe take some of the reviews with a pinch of salt, like I was advised to do. I do sympathise with anyone that didnt enjoy there stay, my parents are staying in Cinco Plazas for a week at the moment and they are really enjoying their stay there for the second time there.

When booking excursions, I would advise to use customer travel or one of the other travel companies around the resort, Thomson are much more expensive. We booked with customer travel twice and had a good trip with them both times. We hired a car off Cabrera Medina (€30) great idea, beautiful island to explore, especially up the north there is beautiful beaches.

Tip: I was advised by a tour guide if medical attention was needed to go to the clinic beside Biosphera Shopping centre (near old town), it is free and you just pay for prescription. The doctor in the complex & around the PDC will charge a fortune & hotel gets a % of ther cost so just beaware.

Tip: Tip the cleaning lady- she might make an extra effort in your apt

Room Tip: First floor apartment

We stayed at Cinco Plaza Apartments for one week in September 2011. Check in was fine and the apartment which was on the first floor overlooking one of the smaller pools seemed fine. We had a large living/kitchen area and 2 good size bedrooms. The bathroom had seen better days. We were told room service was 3 times a week but we never knew which days so we were not too pleased to have the maid banging on the door at 9am one morning. We asked her to come back which she did 10 minutes later. She kept tapping her watch and saying "Go, go, go". We thought perhaps she was going home so we told her to forget about cleaning the apartment, but when we returned later in the day she was still there cleaning other apartments. Cleaning is not really what happened, the floor of the apartment was filthy even after it had supposedly been cleaned and crumbs we had dropped on the floor remained there for the whole week. We have never seen such large cockroaches as the ones residing in our apartment. The worse thing about this complex was the food. We were self catering and can only pity people who had booked half board. The menu was pizza, chicken nuggets, fish and chips, pasta and not much more. We were told by the receptionist that they usually have a buffet but not the week we were there. Drinks were extremely overpriced 8 euros for 3 cokes! There was supposed to be entertainment in the evenings but apart from the children's disco we didn't see any. This was our first visit to the Lanzarote, and we were extremely disappointed. We didn't find anywhere that served traditional Spanish food in Peurto del Carmen. We did the trip to the volcanoes and the submarine trip which were excellent, but book them at the travel agents in the resort as they are so much cheaper that booking through the tour company. All in all we have decided that the Canaries are not for us and we are going back to the Greek Islands.

Hotel looked clean until we opened the apartment door ground floor. Oh dear bathroom grubby smell of sewers.
Sofa bed was thread bare and covered in sun tan oils.
Tiled floors were tacky. We complained but no available apartments fully booked so we defumigated the apartment and bombarded the toilet and sinks with detergent to get rid of the smell.

1st night was very roudy with arguments kicking off around the complex (those who over indulged).
2nd night the same no sleep called security and alas eventually came an elderly chap who was that scared himself dare not confront the imberseals in question broken bottles glasses and foul mouthed arguments and threats to kill each other. Wish they had we would of got 12 nights of peace.
3 rd night enough was enough securiy called cand police to break up disturbances. These were in apartment above so asked reps to sort it out or give us an alternative room. After an hour with reps we were offered one went to view it and it smelled worse and was right on the entertainment complex and the rear faced the road. Decided to stay after the second final warning was issued no we don't winge 3 other apartments also complained. We had an 18 nth child and it wasn't suitable for her we had to wait till next day as people were leaving an available rooms would be vacant for us to move. Yet again another night no sleep 3 o clock all he'll broke loose drunkards arguing and 2 that had been on drugs decided they would have a set too albeit security came and diffused it. Guards security. All this reported next day by this time we were past it. Reps couldn't be apologetic enough and we moved the following day and eviction letters were to be distributed to those concerned. Great get rid of them.
5 th night great till 0500 hrs when a couple below our new apartment kicked off this lasted 2 hours so phone in the apartment didn't work had to go to reception after confronting the couple. To bring security to solve it had a gut full we wanted to fly home £1600 we payed for the 4 of us what a waste.
It happened again 6 th night same time reps couldn't believe it hotel hadn't had as many complaints from people over this fortnight so the hotel decided to confront tomsons along with the police and called a meeting.
I know you can't choose who stays here but everywhere on the complex trouble was about. 3 eviction letters that week were issued. By the way 3 strikes and your out the don't publicise that although the hotel has a statement written on reception for zero tolerance just must of been hard up that week to take notice of it !
Foul language from the childrens pool and drinking at 10 am you just gotta ask yourself is there any wonder. Children 4 year old f... ing and blinding to their parents. Didn't dare put my child in there spent as much time out of complex as we could. Entertainment was rubbish when they decided to turn up and then I thnk they pulled them from the bus stop when they didn't.
No wasn't a happy bunny at all came out of the entertainment room to walk my little one round alas people peeing up the Walls outside. Not even house trained. We don't winge always keep an open mind but won't and didn't tolerate any more couldn't wait to get on plane home. It's took this long to recuperate to write this we left 23 rd sept. Never again !!!!

Travelled to Puerto del Carmen Sept 2011 and stayed at Cinco Plaza Apartments for 11 nights. 2nd stay at Cinco Plaza and definately our last.

CHECK-IN - We received a warm welcome and a smile when we walked through the doors to reception at 10.30pm. Check in was efficient and fast - staff very friendly and welcoming.

APARTMENT - Oh dear! Stayed in apartment 2240 - opened the door and the smell of the bathroom hit us straight away - a dirty nasty smell - the whole apartment stank! Apartment consists of a lounge (with sofa bed and kitchenette), and bathroom, and bedroom with twin beds. On closer inspection, think it was the brown/yellow shower curtain that was cause of smell. The whole apartment was filthy - dirt, sand and hair on the floor - a band aid plaster on the floor - coffee rings and other dubious stains on the bedside tables - and kitchenette filthy. The toilet had grime on the top where the flush is and had something lodged at the bottom of it during the whole 11 nights we stayed. The bath had a black tide mark round it. Clearly the apartment hadn't been fully cleaned for our arrival.

During our 11 nights, we received maid service 4 times, sheets changed once and towels changed 3 times. The towels are threadbare so you might want to take your own. Maid didn't clean or mop the apartment as footprints on the floor and the band aid plaster etc remained, and the stench from the bathroom remained during our 11 nights.

POOL AREA - Nice pool area, again, not cleaned very often - spilled drinks/ice creams on the tiles for couple of days. Lifeguard at every pool. Some other reviewers have mentioned alot of Irish people around the pool. The whole resort has alot of Irish people, and unfortunately I have to say I found them to be loud, a tad rude, and to be swearing at everyone (including their young children) - complete gutter mouths - my dad's Irish so it was disappointing that they were like this - clearly not the norm of the majority of Irish people.

STAFF - Generally all polite and friendly - some of the maids a bit grumpy. Never once saw the manager out on a walkabout to inspect the place - maybe that's why it's filthy?

LOCATION - 10 min walk away from the main strip and beach. Come out of reception and turn left, walk down the hill and you're at the main road (turn right for bars and restaurants) and the beach is across the road. The road from the hotel is on a slight hill - not that bad, although probably not suitable for wheelchairs.

Try the American Indian Cafe - live band every night and decent priced food and drinks - 2 of us could spend entire night there with 2 course meal and drinks for around 50 to 60 euro's in total. Great service too!

SUMMARY - Lanzarote is a lovely island and Puerto del Carmen is a lovely (semi-lively) resort. The hotel is dated and in urgent need of a re-furb - the cleaners need a kick up the butt to do their job right, and probably the manager needs a kick up the butt to notice what's going on!

For those people who say ignore the bad reviews - you maybe should have stayed in room 2240 to experience our holiday- you should raise your standards and broaden your horizons - plenty of nicer hotels out there

For the hotel manager - please don't reply to this saying we should have brought the matter to your attention - you should be ashamed that new guests arrived to find your hotel room in such a state - don't you regularly inspect the work of your cleaners?

Room Tip: Get onto Thomson or First Choice and change your hotel - this place is a smelly dirty pit!

We travelled late September and booked a three bed apartment. There was only three of us but it was the only one remaining. We didn't mind as our son is 2 so he had his own room. Other family members had a one bed apartment in the complex too. Both apartments were on the ground floor and very well maintained. They were cleaned three times that week, and had really good facilities. Microwave, kettle, toaster etc. They had run out of air conditionining units but we got used to the heat!! The floors however were filthy! Other than that we were really happy with the accomodation. The staff were lovely, from the maids to the lifeguards. There were 2-3 lifeguards patrolling all three swimmining pools. Our son had a really good time as did all the kids. There was a kids club but we didn't avail.

There was entertainment in the pool bar most night, again we didn't go there as son was asleep so i was glad our apartment was up the back as it would have been way too noisy with young children, so you might want to note that if travelling with young children. We got takeaway food from the restaurant and could not fault it at all.

The location was excellent, 20 mins from airport, just what you want after a 4 hour flight. You are down the hill to the strip of bars & restaurants, beach etc. Shopping centre on site, and a larger HiperDino just 2 mins walk away which stocked everything you would need.

All in all a very nice and enjoyable experience, one which we hope to do again in 2012!

Good Luck!

Room Tip: If travelling with young Children, ask for a room up the back in Amarillo Complex. i.e. away from th...

It was our first visit to these apartments and Puerto Del Carmen and we were really impressed. We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment which was really big, clean and well equipped. It was a 10 minute transfer from the airport and a five min walk to the main resort. (up hill, so not ideal if you have mobility problems). The resort itself is lively with many bars/restuarants to choose from. We really liked the restaurants by the harbour, the food was much better quality. Beaches really nice and really clean too. Would definitley stay here again without hesitation. You do have to pay 15 euros (plus 10 Euro deposit for the TV) which I've never had to do before and there is no air con (only a plug in fan) but for the price we paid, we didn't mind. Weather in Sept was 28/29 which was pleasant but not too hot!!

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the main pool, which had lovely sun in the afternoon.

I am currently staying at the Cinco PLazas and i had to take my 8 yr old son to the Doctor (medico) and the charge was 90 euros and the medication was 15 euros which was fine but then he wanted to see him again 5 days later and he wanted to charge a further 80 euros which i refused to pay, just be careful if you need to use the doctors, there is a clinic on the sea front which is English but it is quite a walk so you might need to get a taxi for a couple of euros xx apart from that the place is lovely xx Karen Rowe, Bath. THE RECEPTION STAFF ARE VERY FRIENDLY AND VERY HELPFUL.

Room Tip: ask for a pool view NOT a road side room
