We spent a week at Los Jameos Playa on a half board basis and can recommend it with no hesitation. We travelled with Monarch, and they deserve a mention because, once again, the flights were on time and everything ran perfectly smoothly. The taxi transfer was a great option and we were in the hotel in about 10 minutes.
I’ll start with the one and only complaint that I have about this hotel - it is too big. There are 530 rooms over 6 buildings and that means a lot of people. Hoards of people are everywhere you go. We particularly didn’t enjoy breakfast and dinner. At our first meal, there was no-one in charge of directing newcomers and telling us what to do, and the waiting staff just ignored us. There is usually someone taking room numbers who tells us what is what, but not here. While we couldn’t fault the food choice or quality, it was all very chaotic, from wandering around to find a free table (still ignored by all staff) to queuing up to get your cooked meat (lengthy process) to fighting your way through the masses to get whatever else you want and then fighting your way back to your table (meat cold by then). We just didn’t find it a pleasurable or relaxing experience. We ate out one night (fabulous curry at Taste of India just round the corner – reviewed separately) to get away from it all. But . . all this wouldn’t stop us from returning because we loved the hotel, however I would try to go B&B instead of half board.
So apart from that, this is a truly lovely hotel – the grounds are immaculate, (every plant looks manicured) and very nice to walk through. Wild green parrots fly through the palm trees, making it truly tropical! The main building is beautiful. We only found out at the end of the week that if you take the lift from near Reception up to the next floor, there are comfortable sofas and tables for card playing. There is also a small museum up there. There are 2 swimming pools outside, plus a fish pond with huge Koi carp and some terrapins. The staff were very pleasant and the reception staff were particularly very helpful. We didn’t watch the entertainment so cannot comment on that. I suppose I should give my opinion on the sun bed situation – there are a LOT of sun beds (walking through them is like walking through a maze – they’re everywhere), but then there are a lot of people. When we went to breakfast, virtually every sun bed had a towel on it but very few had people. We only lay out in the afternoons so we don’t go looking for sun beds until that time, and to be fair, most sun beds were occupied by then so it wasn’t as though they weren’t being used. There was the odd free sun bed here and there, and we always managed to find 2 that could be dragged next to each other. So it wasn’t perfect, but we have been places where we really couldn’t get a sun bed at all, so it could have been worse.
We had a standard room which was very acceptable – nicely decorated with plenty of storage, at the side of the hotel looking first over a small grassy area. For the first time ever, we had a ground floor room – not a problem until people started sitting on sun beds right outside our terrace. This was really annoying - they maybe didn’t want to sit with everyone else around the pools, but they didn’t seem to give any consideration to our privacy and we felt we couldn’t sit out, and we had to close the door every time we wanted to change. I wouldn’t want a ground floor room again. On our last day, we didn’t leave until 4pm and, on request, we were given pool towels to use and when we were ready to change, we were given the use of one of the rooms to shower in. This turned out to be a Junior Suite on the 3rd floor. Well . . it was fabulous! If we go again, we will definitely upgrade. (Plus there won’t be anyone sunbathing right outside that window.)
The location of the hotel is perfect - there is a rear door onto the promenade and there is a selection of shops, bars and restaurants right outside, and of course, a lovely beach. There is even a place just inside the door for you to wash your feet when you come back from the beach, and drying cloths are provided. There is at least one of everything you need out there – pharmacy, jeweller, car hire, perfumery, supermarket, and the usual souvenir shops. Some of the bars are classier than others. Some are also cheaper than others. And not necessarily the way round you would expect. We especially liked the Guinness Tavern Chill Out Bar – seating was nice, tables were clean, prices were very good (try the Sangria), and they had someone singing or playing guitar/saxophone etc. most nights. The beach is sandy, and the sea was surprisingly calm – it was very nice to swim in but there are rocks so you have to pick your spot.
We hired a car for 2 days and visited El Golfo, Playa Blanca (lunch in a restaurant on the seafront – heavenly) and Puerto Calero on day 1, and Caleta de Famara, Haria and the beach near Arrieta on day 2 – driving around is very easy and there are some wonderful places to see. We found car hire prices, and prices in general really, to be cheaper than other countries we have visited this year.
This was our 4th visit to Lanzarote, each time to somewhere different, and we loved it just as much as on previous occasions. Next time, we may well return to Los Jameos Playa, because it is a gem.

Room Tip: We had a standard room which was perfectly acceptable but didn't like being on the ground floor - would upgrade to a Junior Suite next time.

Stayed here from aug 3rd for 11 nights.

Food was truly excellent. Could not fault any of the nights we ate here. Breakfast omelettes were excellent. We were all inclusive so had all our meals here. Can't say enough about how good the food was. My only suggestion for the German themed night was to have truly German dishes like schnitzel, curry wurst etc and perhaps some heffeweizen beer + schnapps!

Staff were great. David Luiz in the piano bar is a one man army!! I never had to queue once for a drink. I hope the hotel take care of this guy as he is a true gent and a superb waiter. He remembered what drinks you liked and in most occasions before you could ask your drinks were replenished. Carla Rodriguez on the pancake and waffle stand was also excellent!

My only negative comment is the amount if people staying here. It was very busy but I think the hotel coped well with this. If you want a sun bed, get it early. Staff do remove towels from unoccupied beds before 9 am.

If you want a lazy, relaxing self indulgent break this is the place to go.

I would recommend this to anyone!!

Booked our June holiday at Los Jameos after reading the good reviews and overall was a nice hotel. The AREA was next to sandy beach with sunbeds and parasols and a handful of shops and restaurants though the main resort was a short taxi or bus ride away which cost us 3 to 4 euros. or a 25 minute walk. The HOTEL looked very grand inside with gorgeous wooden staircases. There are a few little shops in the hotel and a large pool with a childrens area and 2 pool bars. The only gripe I had was that the sunbeds were very close together with large parasols which meant you couldn't put it up without shading about 5 other people! Though I don't know what the answer to this is in such a large hotel. There was a small mini golf and a gate that led to beach and shops. It was always kept scrupulously clean and had plenty of places to just sit and chill out of the sun. The ROOM we had was on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool. There was a TV with the most English channels I've ever had abroad. 2 very wide single beds together and balcony with table and chairs. The air con worked well and the water was always hot. Could have done with a few more drawers and plug sockets and maybe a mirror over the dressing table but was spacious and cleaned daily. This is the first time I have stayed in a 4 star hotel and not had tea and coffee making facilities. In the standard rooms you can only have this if you ask at reception and are charged a small fee daily. There was a fridge in the room for keeping water/milk etc. The FOOD was very good. Breakfast had all the usual Full English, cheeses and cold meats, fruit, cereals ,toast ,yogurts, pastries and the biggest selection of drinks I've ever seen with 5 different juices, smoothies and even chocolate milk. Lunchtime had a salad bar, soup, hot dogs or burgers, chips and a selection of other hot dishes .Dinner had a different country theme each night and every night had a fish station where it was freshly cooked for you and steak and carvery with a salad bar and always a selection of delicious desserts and ice cream. There was also crepes and waffles cooked by the pool from 3 till 5 with ice cream throughout the day. The ENTERTAINMENT is where I feel the hotel wasn't too good. There was a piano bar upstairs and a large entertainment room where apart from our first night when there were 3 very good singers on had very mediocre, amateur outside entertainers for just an hour after the kids disco. Went to The Music Hall Tavern in Puerto del Carmen one night and although was very small, cramped venue was a fun show and had a great evening away from the poor hotel entertainment. Would recommend staying in this hotel if coming to this area of Lanzarote, very clean, spacious rooms, nice ambience, good size pool and great food just a shame about the evening entertainment.

Dear Karen,

We wish to thank you for publishing a feedback on Tripadvisor concerning your stay with us in June 2013.

It is a pleasure to learn that you appreciated the high standard of our hotel, its location and the good food.

With reference to the sun beds please understand that when we are running at a high occupancy level that we place the loungers close to each other, enabling more guests to enjoy a place near the pools.
We are sorry to read that the evening entertainment was not entirely to your liking. It is our goal to meet the expectations of all of our guests and therefore we always take good note of the feedback we receive. End of August we have already changed some shows and will start with the new winter programme in October.

Once again we wish to thank you for your friendly review and hope you will give us the opportunity to welcome you back.

This hotels is lovely, very clean rooms and cleanliness around the hotel was faultless. The variety of food simply made it impossible for someone not to find some they liked. Lovely hotel!
The hotels has plenty to do for children, table tennis, crazy golf, tennis courts, outdoor chess and a games room.
The staff work very hard and the majority were very nice and friendly. I can honesty say in my 11 night stay i only visited the bar once, and after that drinks were brought to me, excellent service. I would most definitely revisit this hotel in the future.

Room Tip: He stayed on the ground floor, and it was very quiet.
