Fantastic value for money hotel. We went all inclusive & although some of the food was repetitive (we were there for 11 nights) for what we paid it was good value for money & we will certainly go back on the all-inclusive package. we have used this hotel many times over the past 10 years. It overlooks the old harbour & the sea views are fantastic. The room we stayed in does not have aircon but does have a fan in the celling of the bedroom & lounge, The hotel is a little dated but as I said earlier it is excellent value for money & the staff are very friendly

Room Tip: Always go for 4th floor or above to get sea views

Travelled with Monarch, thank you for great flights there and BACK.

Talking about BACK, this is where the coach will drop you, back end of hotel, looks like a bomb site. the hotel is in the old quarter of Porto del Carmen directly above the harbour and the roads in the old quarter are too narrow for coaches so they drop you off at the back of the hotel, which, after a long day travelling and arrived at night, think what have we come to.
Don't worry once to go through to the front of the hotel, OHG, beautiful, every room looks over the ocean and the higher your room is the more beautiful view of the harbour. Previous reviews, yes you have to be fit to be on the top floors as there are no lift this Hotel. Lots of stairs but super views.

Arrival, they do not have staff to take you to your room, give you a map and then let you get on with it. Got lost went loopy but eventually got to our room, we wanted a balcony but got a terrace, asked to be moved to balcony room, would have to wait until next day. We actually did not move as our terrace was fairly private and had the best young couple staying along side us. Must say a big hello to Holly and Scott from Whitby

This hotel is all about the great people staying there. It is just so friendly everyone gets together and has fun.

The rooms are spacious and very clean, we were all inclusive but still bought little nibbles to put in the fridge for a late night snack, had our duty free to sip on the terrace and got a big of ice to put in the fridge for drinks. Just little tips for you.

All inclusive normally means sacks all day, afternoon tea, free ice cream and late night snacks. AI here is really full board with drinks, bar closes at 11.30 anything after that time you pay for!!

The food, well you will not stave or have a jippy tummy, but it is pretty basic, reminded
me of school meals, even had tinned tropical fruit and pineapple!! Actually the desert table was better than the hot meals unless you like salad. There was a variety of hot main for both lunch and dinner but a little tasteless, best meal of the week Paella brill.

Position of hotel is super, overlooks the harbour and two minutes around the road you are in the hub bub of the resort.

Just outside the hotel is the Irish Harbour Bar, brill. Live music every night and a lovely buzzy bar to be in.

Without walking too far again outside the hotel and in the harbour if you want a great meal for a night out you are spoilt for choice.

Although AI must go out for a proper lovely meal and you are spoilt for choice with the restaurants just a sort walk from the hotel.

Do go on the waterbus from the harbour to puerto del Callera. Costs 10 euro return such a pretty little place for lunch and a walk about with their little posh shops.

All in all had a brill week away in sunshine that you do not have to travel long haul to.
we met wonderful people from Ireland and in UK from North to South.

Nice hotel with polite staff, had the electrician twice to our room as a few things were not working and really did not want blow myself trying to fix them!!!!

Finally, theft, yes there was theft whilst we were there, one of our friends saw the police five times in reception during our weeks hol.

Every hotel I have stayed at we have had security walking around 24/7. I only saw one security man walk past our terrace once all week.

For us no problems with security, never left the patios opened and everything in safe, left patio and room lights on in evening. Many guests were saying its is hard for an outsider to rob the rooms!! I will not comment on this!!

Would I return to Aquarius, perhaps but get chef to get in Gordon Ramsey, Jamie Oliver etc, you know where I am going, better tasty food for us on half, full and AI.

We were at these apartments in May this year and within a week of getting back Kev my partner wanted to re-book. Just wish we'd booked with Thomas Cook again instead of On The Beach. Not going to elaborate, but the May holiday was more straight forward in sorting!
This place gets a bit of slating every so often, but we like the place honestly! There are no frills with this place, but the rooms are clean with all the basic requirements you need.
On getting to the apartment I noticed the fridge had only a tiny ice box and knowing that we'd be getting a big bag of ice for drinks from the nearby Superdino, it wasn't big enough. The fridge was changed promptly within the space of half an hour much to my surprise! I've seen comments about the cucarachas, but never saw one all the 11 nights we stayed here. We had fantastic room service with a brilliant maid, who we had a laugh with daily & complained we smoked & drank too much!
I'd asked for a room on the 4th floor or higher - simply because there is no view on the lower floors. We got one on the 4th floor, unfortunately it was well away from the pool area, however it was nice & quiet and due to how the rooms are structured you don't hear your neighbours. It very well planned out!
Want to try somewhere new next year, but this place is good even if only for the sea views from the apartment. I've been to some complexes, which were rowdy, but this spot is quite peaceful.

Room Tip: 4th floor or higher!

just returned from 2 fantastic weeks at the aquariou hotel. fantastic hotel, lovely and clean, food very good if a bit repetative, staff absoloutely fantastic. only one issue and that was one of the maids who was downright ignorant but apart from that we had no problems at all and would definately go back again. perfectly situated for the old town, bus stops, supermarkets etc. a bit hilly so be prepared but otherwise fab!!!

Me and my boyfriend stayed here in September we went fully inclusive i would not recommend this but prehaps self catering, The place didn't really feel like a hotel as you access your rooms from outside would not recommend to anyone with any walking disabilities, the main complex could do with some doing up, and series paint job in some areas .
The food was pretty awfull could do with a reset menu, the drinks were average found the larger not so good, plus having advertised curdled bottles on the bar was not a good look, I found the staff were generally helpful and restaurant staff very accommodating, although i did find a couple of the bar men quite rude. The actual apartments itself were nice and spaciouse and have fantastic views overlooking the sea and the sunset over the mountains, Location is also good as its close to the beach and the town.
All in all had a good holiday but would not stay here again.

Stayed here recently in a party of 13 friends and family, overall impressions are as follows:

Accommodation:
As we were staying for a special occasion I mailed the hotel upon booking, requesting one of the upgraded/refurbished rooms, to which they duly obliged. The room was very nice, clean and above what I would expect for this type of hotel. Lovely balcony and the views over the sea and harbour are fantastic. Sleep quality was also good.
Other members of my party stayed in the standard rooms to which they felt were extremely basic with no air conditioning and ceiling fans which in some cases didn’t work or blew cold air upward towards the ceiling!!!
One member of my party also had a block of wood which you had to use to lock the patio door when leaving the room.!!

Important:
During our stay there were a couple of known instances of burglaries in the complex. One couple had laptops/phones pinched and another other valuables. There was 3 different days where we saw police visiting reception (I assume they were dealing with these issues).
After reading previous threads and listening to other guests and members of staff I believe that this is a common issue here and in the week we visited there were apparently 6 different burglaries.
To be honest I felt that the hotel was as secure as any other I’ve stayed in and is fairly open for others to just walk in and walk around, although due to the layout of the rooms and entrances/exists I feel a local walking in to burgle properties would stick out like a saw thumb. Due to this and the frequency I would say that the problem maybe a bit closer to home.

Food:
The food was nice, fairly varied and catered for most tastes. The usual choice of pasta, chips, pork, chicken, salad all went down well. However, the butter was stale for the last two days and although the staff were informed they seemed to ignore this and carried on (at least for 6 meals upto the time we left) to serve this. There was also a large queue for the coffee machine every morning at breakfast time.

Location:
Good location within a minute of the old town square dropping down the steps at the rear of the hotel. However, if you use the side entrance off the main road you will seriously struggle with the steep hill (certainly not suitable for the elderly).

Staff:
All the staff were very good and helpful (albeit Seve on the bar last Thursday was in a bit of a “couldn’t give a toss mood”)

Overall:
What I would expect for how much I paid. However I feel I would have been slightly disappointed if I had stayed in the standard rooms.
The frequent occurrences of burglaries are worrying and really needs sorting out.

Room Tip: Refurbished rooms are good and what you would expect. The standard rooms are below average.

Stayed here with 10 members of my family. We had four rooms all on the same floor as the pool. The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The grandchildren were made to feel so special. The pool was brilliant never full, but there was a slight problem with the grout coming off onto our shorts and swim wear. The entertainment was non existant, and the food whilst edible simply wasn't good enough. Pork , Pork and more Pork, very little choice. My son in law doesn't like Pork and lived on soup and chip butties.

We also were made aware of many break ins during our stay, and what was very worrying for us all with children sleepin in the main room was the main doors being forced and people entering when they were asleep. We had to take our children and baby in with us to make sure they were safe.

We had a good time and we did think it was value for money, but I don't think we will visit again which is such a shame as the staff work so very very hard, and these break ins and the food marred our time there
