Very Old, and in need of refurbishment - the establishment, its staff, and the guests!

The best way to describe this hotel is to say that it offers a cruise type holiday, which has been stuck in the 60's, at poor value.

The rooms are dirty, mouldy, and smell of damp. The towels are old, and ripped. The room fridge stank of stale food, and the safe had to be paid for extra. The pillows were dirty, and the WiFi did not work properly.

In fact, each room gets a password, and reception has to set it individually. We had horrendous problems getting this set up for two of us, and the reception was so intermittent and slow, that I just paid data roaming charges to my UK network.

You have to collect the pool towels from reception, and swap it on a 1 for 1 basis. This is a headache, as you may be on your way out, and don't necessarily want to collect another towel when passing reception. The idea of tokens doesn't seem to have occurred to these people.

The food: plentiful in quantity, and variety. However, the quality was 7/10. They need to cut down a bit, and just give better cuts of meat, fresh fruit juice (rather than the fake sugar filled stuff).

The 'icing on the cake' was watching a guest eating his food, with his hands, DIRECTLY FROM THE PAELLA DISH. He was standing there picking, and no one cared.

Please also note that 97% of the food is non Spanish, and has been designed to be 'safe' for the non adventurous. The Spanish food is of poor quality (except for the prawns).

Finally, what seems to have been omitted is the average age group of the guests. I am 45 years old and I was probably 30 years younger than every other guest. If you're looking for a trip. This has all sorts of effects; for example the evening meal stops being served at 9.30pm, as the elderly tend to eat early. This also gave the hotel an atmosphere of an old people's home - which could be a positive, or a negative, depending what you are looking for.

Overall, I do not recommend this place at all, as it is EXPENSIVE for what it is. You can do much better.

FINALLY, a message to Trip Advisor: Why is it that all hotels within a 3 km radius of this one seem to have the same 5* rating? There is nothing to differentiate them amongst each other. Could it be, god forbid, that the majority of the reviews are written by other hotel owners, and reciprocated likewise?

Dear guest,

Thank you for writing your opinion. We regret to know that your experience was not of your liking, and of course we take note of your comments. Regarding your comments about atmosphere, it is true that the Vik San Antonio hotel is not the typical resort with hard entertainment programme; our clients know it and they come mostly for relaxing.

Just to tell you that all our comments come from guests, some of them with critical opinions, and some of them very happy with their experience, and we think you must respect them, because your comments are out of place.

Kind Regards,

Stayed at this hotel in October. We were a party of 5 and stayed half board. The hotel is clean and the room have everything you would need and are a good size. The food is poor in my opinion and can be repetitive. One day they served pork which was still bloody and one day i picked up a plate and it had a cockroach on. when you go for dinner you get charged for the drink you had with your meal at the end of your trip. We got bottles of water and they worked out at 2 euro 50 per bottle. The entertainment looked okay but we didn't go to any of it but when walking passed it sounded good. Plenty of sunbeds and the pools are great. Right on the beach as well and its nice walking down the beach into the sea. Plenty of local bars and restaurants and a large spar close by. I would recommend going to the sunday market, its only 4 euro and can be booked at one of the local agents on the main strip. The codfather do a lovely fish and chips and its only over the road from the hotel. The restaurants is the usual busy buffet type and some days the food was real nice but some days not the best. The last couple of days we stopped going. Some of the dinner staff think they run the world and got in a tizzy when we sat at a table for 8 people, there was five of us and no other tables available. Staff are mostly helpful and we would consider going again. I must say most of the guests are old, and sometimes it looked like the film cocoon.

We regret to know that the food quality was not of your liking, and of course we take note of your comments about this important matter. Sometimes it is difficult to satisfy an international public with different opinions and tastes, but you can be sure that we will try to improve in this part.

Thank you again, and we hope you can check personally the quality of our service and food in your next visit to the Vik San Antonio Hotel.

I last reviewed this hotel in 2008 and returned there in December 2012 and December 2013. Nothing much has changed, it is an excellent place for the older generation to have a Winter break. Martin the Director does a wonderful job, keeping the hotel running smoothly and efficiently. The food was even better this year and the evening entertainment some of the best I have ever watched. I look forward to returning in the future.

Room Tip: I had room 2708 having paid extra for a sea view, I would have preferred a room from 2710 to the end...

We enjoyed the evening entertainment at the hotel, while we were staying nearby... this is a lovely hotel, very comfortable lounge, great music, and floor show at ten each nigtht was excellent,
however, i lost my camera and even though the reception at our apartment telephoned the hotel and the taxi and the chinese restaurant, no luck
well, a week later while we were staying at the second resort, we popped in for a show.
thought we might as well ask at reception, you never know, someone might had handed in our camer. ... And what did reception have, our camera,. wonderful, one of the lovely bar staff had handed it in that night.... so were so impressed by the kindness and honesty of the staff.... well done.... it made our holiday.....

This is actually a lovely hotel with mostly friendly staff except a couple of the over officious dinner supervisors, good food albeit rather repetitive.
We have been here for a week and first impressions were good. However we booked a sea view upgrade room and whilst we can see the sea horizon I would be surprised any room would show less, certainly not worth the additional monies spent. I get the impression we may well have been given a similar room without purchasing an upgrade. Furthermore when questioning the reception staff about this I was told in no uncertain terms a sea view upgrade did not really mean sea view it referred more to a refurbished room. Perhaps we should have taken it further but hey ho. The room itself is tidy functional and liveable. The entertainment is a bit cheesy and the clientele are a bit older than us but they mostly seem up for good fun and as a result we have found ourselves staying in the hotel of an evening rather than wandering out to what is a busy resort with lots going on.
As mentioned the staff are friendly and despite being all inclusive are always nearby anxious to make sure your glass is not empty. Not always the case with all inclusive as we all know. There are a couple of supervisors in the dining area that could do with a lesson or two in manners but overall decent hard working staff.
In summary I would certainly consider coming here again which is unusual for us.

Dear customer,

We are delighted to know that you enjoyed your stay, we try to do our best to make our clients stay most comfortable.

Regarding your comments about the room views, we would like to note that perhaps the information you received was not correct. We have many rooms with a lateral sea view, not always seeing the ocean at all, frontal sea views with full view (supplement is required) and refurbished rooms with both views, always with supplement too. So really you were right booking a sea view and paying that supplement because there are many other options, and if the room is not of your like and you want to change, we can choose another one if it is possible, but always within the category you booked.

Thank you for sharing your comments with us and we hope to see you again in the hotel very soon.

Kind Regards,

After our flight was delayed because of high winds in the UK we were taken to this hotel for the night.Well where do I start it is so luxurious, the food is excellent,we were sorry it was only evening dinner & breakfast the next morning we were to have.It has 4 stars but in my opinion deserves 5.The staff were so helpful & willing to help right from the reception staff to restaurant staff, the wine waiters, the porters, they were a credit to Vik chain of hotels, just something about this hotel & staff I can't get out of my mind so much so we are looking to book this for our next winter holiday in Nov/Dec 2014.

Just returned from the San Antonio after a 1 week All Inclusive stay 24th November 2013, hotel is superb, food is excellent, staff really friendly, entertainment good every night, rooms clean & spacious , bath & shower facilities clean , plenty of hot water all the usual toiletries available , soap, shampoo, hair dryer etc, plenty of English channels on the room tv if you require them, safety deposit box, air con ( no excess charge on any of the above)
Plenty of sun beds available around the pool areas, small gymnasium & sauna area available if required, beach at bottom of pool area
Location superb, 5 minute walk to shops, bars & restaurants, bus stop directly outside, taxi rank across the road if you need to go further

One small point, all of our other AI's we have been given a wrist band instead of having to sign a receipt for all drinks which I think maybe VIK should consider as an option in the future

Would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel, both myself & the wife thoroughly enjoyed our stay, Thanks VIK San Antonio.....

Room Tip: If you would like sea view avoid rooms with 0600 numbers as they are on bottom floor
