VIK Hotel San Antonio
Ranked #26 of 91 Hotels in Puerto Del Carmen
Reviewed November 3, 2012

Not the first visit but certainly one of the best.
Rooms are a bit tired but very clean and beds are comfortable .While there there was a programme of refurbishment in progress but it was done very discreetly -no noise or disruption - and they were doing the room next door !
Choice in the dining room wasn`t bad and quality was good but if you like hot food you will be glad of the microwave !!!
Staff are courteous and helpful .Wifi is a bit hit and miss and I think €11 a week a bit high to rent a room safe in this day and age-and if you want teamaking facilities or a fridge take a Gold Card !!!
Taxi from the airport is only €12 and takes about 20 minutes door to door.Forget what the tour companies tell you -there are always taxis there and there is a rank outside the hotel.
A really nice bar about 1/4 mile from the hotel-a pleasant stroll after dinner is El Gruta -the staff, especially Marco, are pleasant and prices are very good and they serve the best Mochito in the area !
Last Minute Tours have shops all overe the Island and I think better than the tour companies and certainly more choice and cheaper.
If you go to La Graciosa be aware that the 4 wheel drive "tour of the island " is only 1/2 the island and I was quted €15 before it started but that escalated to €50 when it finished .I paid the agreed €15 and not a word of protest as I walked away !!!Leaves a nasty taste though and unnecessary -the tour only lasts about 35 mins ,and that is with stops. The boat taxi between the old harbour and Calero is good value at €10 return -Have a good holiday !!!

Room Tip: either a full sea view or a pool view are best

Stayed her for a week with my 14 yr old daughter and step dad. The rooms were spacious enough for 2 people but a bit cramped for 3. Views lovely and can see the sea from virtually every room. Reception staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Cleaning staff very good and rooms cleaned daily. Safe in room for 12 euros pw. Fridge also available which we weren't charged for. Beach towels available for a deposit of 5 euros and can be exchanged daily. Three pools with plenty of sunbeds. One freshwater pool, one sea water pool and separate kiddies pool. Restaurant food is ok not always the warmest. Variety of breakfasts (fruits, cheeses, pastries, freshly made waffles and omelettes/eggs, yoghurts, bacon, sausages etc). Dinner again had a variety of foods with a 'special' each day. Some of the meals were very 'samey' ie desserts. Good selection of salads. Drinks available which can be charged to your room these can be expensive dependant on what you choose 16 euros for bottle of wine. Outside the hotel lovely walks on renovated promenade which takes you right up to the harbour at Puerto del Carmen to walking in opposite direction to Los Piccolos and walking to airport. Also recommend hiring bikes to explore as area quiet flat. Can hire bike for a day for 12-15 euros. Bar Bagatela provides a warm welcome and good range of affordable prices. Taxi to airport 12 euros. All in all a good holiday although wouldn't probably return to this hotel.

PROS - The customer service is excellent. The best I have ever had. The hotel is situated right on the beach which is fantastic. The facilities and the entertainment are great. The cleaning staff does a great job and rooms are cleaned daily. CONS - The hotel advertises that it is in Puerto del Carmen but it is not in the Puerto del Carmen that customers are refering to when trying to book there stay. You have to drive about 5 km to get to the actual Puerto del Carmen. The hotel is very outdated and the carpets smell. In order to get an updated room you must pay an extra daily fee which turns out to be quite expensive. You have to pay extra for things like access to the safety lock box and fridge in your room. The beds are uncomfortable. There is a huge variety of food to choose from but it does not represent spanish cuisine at all and it isn't good which surprised me since most of the reviews I read mentioned good food. Maintenance was taking place daily and I was not able to sleep past about 9 or 10 am.

Dear guest,

Thank you for writing your opinion, it is always very useful for us, in order to know what our
guests think about the hotel.

We are very pleased to know that you felt good with our service, our staff is very well mentioned by the mayority of our guests and we are very proud of that.

Regarding your comments about the food, we take note of your comments about this important matter. Sometimes it is difficult to satisfy an international public with different opinions and tastes, but you can be sure that we will try to improve in this part.

It is true that we have started with the renovations, but as not all of our guests can have a new room, the only way for guaranteeing it is paying a little supplement, if not some of our guests will receive new rooms and another guests not, and we think this is not fair.

And just to inform another customer that can read your kind comment, Puerto del Carmen is all the area, including where the hotel is situated. Another thing is if you are talking about the “old village and harbour” Puerto del Carmen, in this case we are about 5 Km away as you say.

Thank you again, and we hope you can check personally the quality of our service and food in your next visit to the Vik San Antonio Hotel.

Best Regards,

We stayed here for 2 weeks. The housekeeping staff are excellent but it is poor in every other respect. If you like bland lukewarm food this is the place for you. We booked a junior suite but it smelled and had the smallest balcony we have ever seen so we were offered another one but it got no afternoon sunshine so we ended up in a family room. Sun all day but you also heard every word, and incessant clapping, of all the daytime entertainment and the boom boom boom of all the evening entertainment. This hotel could be excellent if someone took some time and effort with it and found chefs rather than cooks. For the money you pay you would get a good 3 star hotel at home and some 4 star ones as well. We thought we were paying for something similar to a Malmaison but got a Premier Travel Inn. A restaurant we went to referred to it as the TV programme Waiting for God and that sums it up perfectly. Would we go back - no. Would we recommend - No

Room Tip: Many of the rooms get little or no sunshine. All the junior suites are in a corner position

Dear guest,

Thank you for writing your opinion, it is always very useful for us, in order to know what our guests think about the hotel.

We regret to know that in your last visit you had not a good experience in general in our hotel .We would like to note that in a big hotel as the Vik San Antonio, not all the rooms can be oriented to the sunshine during the whole day, there are some of them with the sun coming into the room during the morning, and some ohers during afternoons.

It is not easy to satisfy everybody and we will try to improve in all the matters you mention in your comments, thank you again for spending your time writing this opinion.

Hoping that you decide in a future to visit us again, we remain.

Just back from a 14 day stay at his hotel. Short quick transfer from airport. Hotel in excellent position in Peurto Del Carmen nice stroll in to the centre where there are lots of restaurants, bars and shops that cannot be heard from the hotel. Overall look of hotel very tired and in desperate need of updating. Entertainment in hotel as you expect these days poor in our eyes but a lot of people who can't walk far stay and watch and seem to enjoy, but not for us and you certainly wouldn't pay to see the artists. Food lets it down, I appreciate it is buffet style and I don't expect miracles but I do expect it to be cooked, hot and not tasting of pure salt. The choice is very repetitive. It is badly laid out and the person cooking omelettes causes a huge problem with delays and has no idea how to cook an omelette as he cooks the egg mixture then throws in the centre the cold ham, mushrooms and cheese then folds it and gives it to you with it totally cold and not even melted. Head wine waiter and some staff in general at the hotel quite rude. Rooms clean and tidy, chambermaids very polite and friendly, but again rooms are very tired looking. Free wi fi. Overall adequate hotel as a base but needs to be on a B&B basis so you can eat out. The rules made by the hotel are next upheld ie. the evening dress code women being the worst, the removing of food from the restaurant and the reserving of sun beds. Spoke with the manager about the rules but he just shrugged his shoulders and didn't care. Also too many extras to be paid for safe hire 10 euros p/w, fridge hire 12 euros p/w and tea making facilities 15 euros p/w. Problems are not resolved, there was a problem with the shower in our room you could not adjust it as it was broken so the water ran down the wall, reported this to reception on the first day but nothing happened, ended up carrying out a temporary repair myself in order to use the shower. I would go back to the area but only in a self catering capacity. Also if you want to use the gym like I did don't bother very poor and some machinery out of order.

Room Tip: Higher floors are preferable.
