Having got tired of the Peter Kay buffet that is the strip - Italian, Chinese, Grill, Italian, Chinese, Grill, etc, we decided to try this Caribbean restaurant for a change, and boy were we glad that we did. It did take a bit of finding - our taxi driver hadn't heard of it - but was well worth seeking out.
The three of us had three dishes each - all were lovely but would especially recommend the Pork with Chorizo in cider (our dish of the holiday) the Lamb and the Jerk Chicken. Nice bit of heat, but not too much. Desserts were also lovely,a nd we had a nice bottle of wine as well. Around 70 Euros in total, which we thought excellent value for the quality of meal we enjoyed. Also have to praise the couple who run the place - the friendliest couple we met on the island. Please pay a visit - this place deserves to be successful.

Every time I visit T J's I sit and watch in amazement and to some degree disappointment in the number of people that walk by without coming in to try. I enjoy every time we visit, it's a shame that some people haven't discovered this little gem of a restaurant yet, food is excellent and the rum punch is deceivingly strong. Surprised it's not top of the list for restaurants in Porto due to its uneaque food and excellent service.

We decided to visit TJs after reading the reviews here and weren't disappointed although it took some finding! (It's in the old town - turn left at Mulligans and its up the hill on the right just before the gym.) When we did find it first time it was closed as it is only open from 6pm until 10.30pm and not at all on Thursdays, so we had to return later in the day.
As we were the first customers of the evening we had time to chat with Tony, the jamaican chef and Jeanette working out front who are a lovely couple. We started our caribbean experience with a jug of rum punch, which was topped up with extra rum after we were asked if it was strong enough! We then chose 3 dishes each (there were 2 of us), amongst them goat curry, jerked chicken and fish. All were well cooked and absolutely delicious. We didn't leave a scrap but were to full for any desert so rounded off the meal with a caribbean coffee and the complementary local honey rum. Perfect!!
The restaurant is quite small, but was starting to fill up by the time we left. It is spotlessly clean and as a nice touch there was a basket of hygiene products in the ladies loo should anyone need them - very thoughtful. Thank you for a truly lovely evening

We had been planning a trip here on many occasions and finally after five weeks got to go.One of the occasions we did not make it was because they did not take credit cards and I had only €50 in cash, so we went elsewhere that night. This restaurant combines my love of chilly spice and chicken, so for me it was nirvana. Because you order tapas quantities of what you like you end up with your tailored meal by having more of what you like and less of what you like less. We both like meat so had the jerk chicken and five spiced beef along with fish. We also had veg and fried potatoes. The meal was brought out promptly as we were first there and we would recommed this place for the spicier palate. I have had takeout which can be got between 6pm and 7.30 pm since our meal there an it was just as good. Enjoy !!

Excellent welcome, shown to our table without delay. Selections from the Menu suggest 3 to 4 dishes. Doesn't say whether this is for one or two. We ordered 4 dishes for the two of us and had a job to finish the generous portions. This said, all four were well presented and well cooked. We enjoyed them all even though we'd never had any of them before. Strongly recommended!
