“EXCELLENT!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2012

The Arena Dorada are EXCELLENT apartments.....please do not listen to the complainers...these are the sort of people who open their apartment door on arrival and hunt vigorously for every little minor blemish to photograph up close to grump about. Then continue to grump through their entire holiday with a face like like a bag of spuds saying stupid things like "oh it's too warm"...."oh i found an ant in the room".. em..how about you go north next year.. I mean get a life, get a sangria and get a smile on your face and go with the flow!

Just arrived back after a glorious week in the Arena Dorada with my girlfriend...the apartment was clean, bright and spacious and the staff were helpful and friendly.....the location is excellent.....just off the middle of the main strip yet very quiet at night!

Excellent value for money.....we will return!

I thought this was great value for money. It's was walking distance from the strip and beach. Fab location. Only downside there was no air conditioning. It didn't bother my friend but I found it difficult to sleep in. I would return and invest in a fan.

Room Tip: Garden view

When our transfer dropped us off at 11pm on the main street, pointed up a dark side street and said your hotel is on the left of all those bins, I tried not to think negatively. On arriving at the hotel, the reception was locked and in darkness with only a note stuck to the window directing us to our room, I had already made my mind up that we should of chose a different hoel. However on entering the studio apartment we couldn't of been more wrong. It was spacious, spotlessly clean and well equipped (exept for a kettle. You can rent them from reception) Staff had even left us a sandwich. The next day we visited reception and were greeted by friendly helpful staff. The pool was well maintained and cleaned everyday, and there were plenty of sunbeds. All hotel staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The only negative comments I have are although we stayed half board the food wasn't mine or my partners cups of tea so we ended up eating out every night. We were woken up around 7.30 every morning my hotel staff working around the hotel, but who wants to sleep in on holiday anyway. All in all we had a great stay!

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2012

Dates: 17th to 31st July 2012.
Group: Family (2 Adults, 2 Children (Boys aged 13 / 17).
We stayed Self Catering - although we do know B&B and Half Board were on offer - with plenty of variation of eating places outside, self catering was our choice.

Reception:
Throughout our holiday we found the 2 receptionists to be extremely friendly, helpful and courteous at all time. Any questions, they would help find the answers to and even help with booking trips/excursions/taxis if needed. Reception is only manned until 8/8.30 pm, but if you are due to arrive after this time, do not worry - a note is left on the front of reception telling you exactly where to go / what to do and where your room/appartment is.

Room:
Not sure the reasons for some people commenting rooms were small - this was one of the largest appartments we have stayed in for some time. We had booked the one for 3 adults/1 child and basically the door opens into the large lounge / kitchen area - a mini chest of draws/tallboy availabe for clothes storage - large seating area, that also acts as the beds in the evenings. Coffee table in middle of room and separate armchair as well. Balcony with outside furniture. Bedroom was large, with two 6ftx3ft beds pushed together and a very large built in wardrobe with shelves, hanging space.

Cleanliness/Service:
Rooms were clean and tidy on arrival and remained so throughout the stay.
Rooms cleaned 5 days of week (cleaners days off are Wed and Fri). Towels changed Mon, Thurs, Sat. Bedding changed every 7 days (because of the heat it would have been nice to perhaps have had these changed twice during our two weeks (eg every 5 days or something) but that is us being fussy. Complex was generally kept clean / rubbish free. Certain areas need updating/repainting but generally clean and tidy.

Pool
Swimming pool was clean, although you will see peeling paint on some of the edging that is in need of updating/repainting but did not stop the pool from being used lots. Lots of sun beds, some with mattresses - whilst people reserved these quite early, each time we went to the pool, we still managed to get a sunbed. Double beds with mattresses as well - really comfortable :).

One thing to note is that in the first few days of us being there, the appartment was under new management - the change over appeared to happen on day 2 of us arriving - and it seems management are spending out and making changes - some of the older sunbeds were replaced and new sun beds added. The bar underwent a transformation, now serving San Miguel, Carte D'or ice creams etc and the staff would go out of there was to make you feel welcome. The barman (Maximo) was great and became a good friend.

Sleep Quality
Very good - a little hot and as mentioned, no air conditioning but with the window open a nice breeze would occassionally filter into the room - we didnt pay for the fan as we didnt need it. Although very close to main seafront/nightlife - we did not hear much at all in the appartment. Occassionally people upstairs would bang around a little, but you could get that anywhere.

Extras:
Safety Deposit Box - for a small fee for your stay.
WiFi - again small charge for your stay but very good/speedy connection.
Televsion - not sure where someone got the impression there was a charge for the tele - you only have to pay a deposit for the remote control and you get the deposit back when you return the remote control at the end of the holiday - channels were limited but we had about 18 to choose from - English, German and Spanish - english ones were BBC World, CNN, Sky News and I think one other - but we werent on holiday to watch tele (Except the F1, which most places nearby would show anyway).
Fan - for a fee you could hire a fan - we didnt so do not know how much.

Trips
Speak to the receptionist before booking any trips you want to go on - the reason for this is that she will aadvise what is usually the better tour operation out of each of those on offer. There appeared to be two main excursion operators (Customer Travel and LastMinuteTravel). The receptionists kindly explained the difference between the tours and then between the two companies and recommended one of them - we went on two trips - the Playa Blanca market - which she recommended LMT for as it was a longer stay to see more of the town and the Grand Tour Day which she recommended CT for, as it covered a little more and was slightly longer. We even rode the camels :). The receptionist can then even arrange to book these for you - you pay a deposit at reception, take the receipts and then pay the rest to the bus driver/rep - cash only it appeared - if you want to pay by Credit Card, then you may need to go to one of their offices to do that but there are lots nearby.

Location
Absolutely bloody fantastic. So close to a variety of bars, restaurants, cafes yet you are not disturbed by the noise or stream of pedestrians around. So close to the beach/promenade. Advice: go onto google maps and street view - you will see its just a short walk down the road (unfortunately do not bank on the McDonalds you see on streetmap to still be there as its not).

Value / conclusion re appartments
We wanted a cheap holiday and it would have been cheaper if we didnt want the security of booking through a reputable firm (ie if you are happy to then book flights separately and then book accommodation separately as it could save more money). It was still cheap for us and we were really happy with what we got for the cheap price. Yes the place needs a bit of paintwork on the woodwork and around by the pool a little, BUT when we were there with the takeover by new management, some of this started - whitewashing the walls, general repairs, replacing sunbeds, doing up the bar, a new snack bar menu (we didnt try the food but its a new chef etc) all shows that this place is now going to improve on those slight faults. Do not expect 5 star for the cheap price, but you will be pleased with staying here, its clean, tidy and a friendly atmosphere. It did lack a little in the evening entertainment - ie only a Friday BBQ / Live music - no bingo although we did recommend it to them.

OK now to outside:
Breakfast: American Indian Cafe - down the road, turn left and a couple of cafes in on left side - staff are friendly, excellent and a good laugh. Breakfast = Full english breakfast, orange juice and a coffee were just 3 euros each. A croissant, jam, coffee and juice was just 2 euro each. Quality of breakfast was excellent. Never had a bad meal there.

Lunch: with a cooked breakfast in us, we didnt bother too much with lunch - croissant / cake / baguette from superstore.

Evening meal: be prepared to be a little hassled when walking along looking at menus etc - everyone wants you to come in - just a quick polite "no thanks" / "maybe later" and they soon move on to next person. Also, look for specials as well. There is such a choice out there, we did not cover all of them but the ones we ate at, we cannot say we had a bad meal at other than one (mentioned below). The following is where we ate:

Chiquitos - really nice
Tex Mex - excellent - fast - good value
Oriental World - THE best ever chinese restaurant I have been too - absolutely fantastic and VERY popular so be prepared to queue a little or get there a little earlier (7ish)
American Indian - just as good as the breakfast.
La Terrazza - really tasty but perhaps portions could have been a little bigger - still a very nice meal.
O'Reillys - sorry - whilst my meal was ok, the family were not too keen on theirs - the battered fish looked burnt / really greasy - as if the fat needed changing - the burger was overcooked/dry - staff however very friendly. Irish stew was nice.
The Galleon II - excellent - friendly, food was great. We ate there a couple of times as it was really nice - try their chicken balti pie - its better than Pukkas.
There were one or two others I cannot remember the names of.

most nights four of us would eat and have a couple of soft drinks/maybe a beer for me for about 45 to 60 euros - this would be a big meal - thing to look for is price of soft drinks (water / coke etc) as thats where some get you even if the special offer is good - or the meals are reasonably priced) The chinese we did spend 70 euros out but we went for the 15 euro set menu and struggled to finish it all - it was delicious and worth the money.

Overall we had a fantastic holiday here so we hope you do too and we hope that this review helps you. Any questions, please do just ask and we will try to respond as soon as we can.

finally - we got taxis ourselves from the airport to the appartments and back again at end of holiday - it was cheap (approx 15 euro each way) - bear this in mind if you are asked to book transfers - it was easy - step off plane, get bags, walk out front, see taxi rank - approach get in and go....no waiting an hour for your transfer to pick everyone up and drop everyone off before you :)

Andy and family.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2012

Just returned form an excellent holiday staying at the Arena Dorada apartments Puerto Del Carmen. This place is so close to the beach-just a 5 min walk, and just a few minutes walk and you are on the strip for the evening entertainment and food. The old town harbour is just a 35 - 40 min walk away if you are up for it. passing Linekers on the way for a cold beer. The Arena Dorada is clean, safe and the staff are very friendly especially the German manageress who will go out of her way to help if you encounter any problems as we did. On arrival we found out that our room was having emergency repairs! and that it wasnt ready for us but she had booked us into a neighbouring hotel for the night with free drinks by the pool. She also gave us free tickets for the Friday Eve BBQ which i must say is an excellent meal.
The rooms are basic, cool and offer a fridge, microwave and double hob if you want to cook but hey this is a holiday!! who wants to cook so we ate out on the strip every night at various restaurants as the food is excellent, pricey though so watch your Euros if you are on a budget. The hotel has a small restuarant that offers a continental breakfast at 4 Euros but if you must have a full english then most of the restaurants on the strip open up at 9. We bought cereal and basic food stuff at the small local supermarket (just 300 yrds away) as we tend to have a breakfast, maybe a light snack lunchtime, but always a full blow out meal in the evenings. Just again watch your budget when shopping for food as it is not cheap.
The pool area was clean and well maintained and we had no problem getting a lounger although i must say that this was because we booked our holiday two weeks before the schools broke up, sadly the last few days before we came home there were a number of British arrivals with children and ime afraid to say (even though i am British) they just let the side down as all the loungers were taken by 7.30 the next morning!! and i used to think it was the Germans!! Why do we have to do this? what is worse is that they 'claim' their loungers then bugger off back to bed and dont come down until lunchtime? this is so selfish it just makes me see red and ashamed.
The beach is clean has plenty of sun loungers (we paid 15 Euros for 3 loungers and 2 parosols for a day). The sea is warm once you get over the initial shock! and i definitley recommend you buy a snorkel as the fish are everywhere.
Overal this is a great place to stay if you want easy access to the beach and the strip for good food and just generally chill out.

Room Tip: pool veiw would be good as you could beat the early morning sun lounger theives at their own game!

Firstly these are the same as the Apartmentos Arena Dorada which also has more reviews under that name, so check them out.
Thought i would leave my review on this page as a lot of people just search Arena Dorada.
Right now for my reveiw:
Firstly the location is spot on, 5mins to the beach and main stretch for resturants and bars. You cannot hear any noise, so that was a real bonus for us.
The actual complex is quite small but having said that , there are 75 apartments on a two storey blocks of 5. Very friendly staff and very helpful. We booked a excursion and reception checked and confirmed the pick up for us and also printed our boarding passes for return flight.
The actual apartment was very clean, but i have to say the kitchen cupboards, fridge and cooker hob need updating. The hob shorted out on us the first day,was reported to reception where a maintance man was in attendance within 30mins but unfortunately it shorted again once he had left, so my husband disconnected it and as we were half board we used the microwave to boil water for our coffee as we didn't need to cook!! Did inform the hotel that it was still dodgie on our last day.
The resturant is quite small and the choice of food limited although again clean and well cooked. I suppose as it is not a very big complex would probably explain why the choice is limited, wouldn't be cost effective to have a lot of waste. If you are a fussy eater i think you would struggle with the menu. Typical breakfast, cearel, cold meats cheeses and boiled eggs. No bacon sausage and eggs i'm afaid, although we did have the odd morning where fried eggs were served.
Typical evening meal Pasta, Fish and some variety of meat in a sauce of some kind. Salad and desserts like Creme Caramel popped up quite often.
Pool area was well maintained and we had no problem getting a lounger, but as the beautiful beach is just across the road we headed for that more often.
We did have a good nights sleep, beds were ok. No air con but as Lanzarote has a breeze most of the time it wasn't a problem.
Would we return, well hard to say,we stayed here as we got a good last minute price but if i was paying anymore then probably not.
I have no major complaints, it just needs a few tweaks here and there.

Room Tip: we had a room a the rear and was very quite . Room B2
