The apartment is reasonably equipped and has a balcony overlooking Lake Lucerne. The short walk to the village (3 minutes) is hazardous as there are no pavements and there are bends in the road, and therefore I would not recommend this apartment if you have a young child. That is my only reservation. The village has a small shop which sells an amazing variety of food at reasonable prices. This was our third stay in Apartment 6, and the main attraction is the wonderful view from the balcony, especially at night, and the fact that the Swiss border is so close.
I wanted a self catering apartment in a not too touristy place. San Mamete was perfect for us. Small and not full of tourists. The apartment was as described and right on the edge of the lake. We could hear the water lapping against the building at night. Bathroom was enormous and the shower fantastic. There were a few things lacking eg ironing board and iron and the pillows were too "fat" for us. I have mentioned these to the agent and she has promised to rectify them. However, were very comfortable and had the luxury of UK TV and great wifi connection. Would not call San Mamete the most beautiful village but it had a friendly atmosphere and we loved the King Pub - run by Sonia who is an Elvis fan. Great music played there. Location convenient for visits to Lugano and Lake Como. Beautiful part of the world. A car would be advantageous for real freedom although the local buses and ferries are easy to use and cost is reasonable.
