“An experience !!!!”
Reviewed August 17, 2013 via mobile

We had a reservation. We arrived early expecting to have a drink and a smoke in the cute ish car park facing garden but it is clear that they don't like smokers as you are not allowed. Can't you read the signs? I was asked by the elderly bar man. After feeling as if I had just been caught with my fingers in the till I still had to do the walk of shame passed the table of wags who clealy heard all of this to the back door where at last I could have a ciggy with my drink. We ordered our food from the specials board with a relatively sour faced dark haird lady and could not fault the food. We did not wait long for my partners starter (white bait) to arrive then our mains of rabbit and lobster which were both exceptional and well worth the initial trauma experienced earlier. Dessert however was not exceptional as I had expected with their price tag. We will go back and try again as we now know where to smoke and how to behave around the not so happy management.

“This is a real Marmite restaurant!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

If you can stand the dour, humourless attitude of the management here then the range and quality of food may be worth coming for - especially if you enjoy either vast quantities of assorted seafood or seasonal game.

Unfortunately this time our salmon was way too dry, but the guinea fowl satisfied; of the two vegetarian dishes (chosen from a commendable range) one was delicious, but sadly the risotto from the specials board was watery and fell rather flat.

The deserts were more consistently appreciated by our party, and each was delightfully presented as well as being very tasty.

The waiting staff sped around as though turbocharged, and were both very pleasant when serving us - although due to the pressures they were under we saw little of them.

Apart from the dreary chain eateries, The Whitehouses is offered little competition locally in this fast moving, reasonably priced, pub grub market and so it is invariably busy, noisy and far from romantic.

Like us, you'll surely discover that you either love it or loathe it!

“Ignore the bad reviews - this is by far the best restaurant in Nottinghamshire!”
Reviewed July 19, 2013 via mobile

Have visited Whitehouses many times and it is always awesome! As foodies we have visited many restaurants that are rated a lot higher on TripAdvisor and have always concluded this is the best. The owner is efficient. The food is incredible. Everyone that I speak to about good restaurants in the area always says this is the best so it is about time it was recognised on TripAdvisor.

“Bad Manners, No air conditioning”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Well im not one to believe what i hear and always give people a chance but unfortunately the manners of the management were very rude and abrupt not only towards customers who were not their obvious favourates but also towards their own staff. They seem to go through an extreme amount which could only possibly come down to bad training OR most likely the way they speak to them as most of the girls are very sweet and polite and always busy but never seem to last long which would suggest a stressful working environment . We go often and tend to get along with the very over powering personality of the manager but the young women whom i believe is his neice has no people skills whatsoever its all about the money to her not the customer service, rush rush rush seems to be her way, god help you if you're getting on a bit and like to chew your food carefully. If you're face does not fit then they dont want you on the premises and ask you to leave, We run our own business (so they like us or the £££ signs) which we have earned in a similar role but wont be spending it in that unpleasant little pub any longer. We dont like how they treat their staff. We treat our staff with respect, something the managment needs to learn. Also they kept the doors and windows closed when the place was like a sauna whats that all about, we pay good money and expect air conditioning of some level. They cram you in like sardines now i know they like serving fish but that takes it a little too far. The food was good and the waitresses were lovely but thats all that is good in this 'pub that serves food'. Not much choice of food or drink. You better eat up quick as they seem to double book quite often. Unpleasant experience, go to the 'Mussell and Crab' much better high quality atmosphere where they treat everyone the same with upmost respect, or try the local indian 'Everest' they are professional and respectful each and every time. If you dare to venture to the WhiteHouses then good luck you're going to need it!!

“lovely little restaurant, offers more than meets the eye”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

We went here for a family birthday on a recommendation. The menu was both diverse and traditional, and excellent value for money. Good selection of drinks, real ales, spirits and wines. The food was served quickly was also of very good quality, the staff were pleasant and was well worth the money that we paid. The menu consisted of traditional things like fish and chips but also had different things to try like guinea fowl and other types of food.
