Description: La Clef des Champs. We cater for intimate, family and business meals. A seminar room is also available for meetings...The rue du Moulin connects Ducale square with the Arthur Rimbaud museum. It is situated in the heart of the principality founded by Charles de Gonzague, the then Duke of Mantoue and Governor of Champagne region. In 1608, in all modesty he gave his namesake to the new town: Charleville. Each house bore the name of the town which had financed its building: Rheims, Sainte-Ménéhould, Langres, Suippes, Rethel, Mouzon, Mézières... A personal plate on the Sainte-Ménehould house, celebrates the restoration of the building in 1830.It is in this building, located 33 rue du Moulin, at the heart of this historical town, that Christophe and Geraldine Melin opened ... 'La Clef des Champs'.

I have eaten here twice, first with a group of 12, most recently just 5 of us. Each time I have felt we have been warmly welcomed and looked after. The food has been of excellent French quality, cooked perfectly. A nice roaring fire on a cold night most recently which i love. No complaints.

This place still lets itself down. Perfect ambiance, lovely table arrangements but poor poor table service. For a restaurant offering such tasty and refined menus, the service and I use the word lightly, is shambolic. You pay for a meal, order your food and never a waiter / waitress is to be seen on the restaurant floor. Even after ordering two 150€ bottles of champagne for an aperitif, we had to leave our seats to find a waiter to supply even a mere carafe d'eau or expensive bottle of wine. Not once, but three times! It's not the first time we've endured such poor service here. Our bill was over 800€ for six people and frankly, not worth what we paid. The fish was very over cooked and dry and as we've said, the service again abysmal. We won't done here again and suggest you look elsewhere too. A sad demise for a restaurant with so much promise.

Found the restaurant by chance , a gem amongst a host of pasta and pizza places. Our meal was excellent with well thought out flavours and textures. Wine degustation offered some very good wines to accompany our meal. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the town. Would that every town has such a good restaurant.

We found La Clef des Champs on the internet. A very classy restaurant with chef cook living right on the premises. Christope Melin cooked a wonderful meal for us that melted in our mouths. His wife ran the bed and breakfast attached to the hotel. We were spoiled rotten with a great breakfast and the accomodations were just right. Very stylishly decorated, quiet, good bed. It is close to the downtown of Charleville, so close to many pubs, cafes and the sqeare where everyone gathers night and day. The price was right, for dinner and sleeping. We have never seen a wine list with so many pages of choices.
