a nice museum about the first humans and their settlements in Netherlands. the museum is largely outdoors, so nice for a summers day.

if you're there only for the hunnebed it can be visited for free.

We were lucky to have a great guide who explained the displays and the neolithic Hunebed beautifully. Very interesting. We didn't know one has to make a reservation for the tour, but we were lucky that some people didn't show up, so we could join in.

Our guide was dressed in authentic clothes, showing how people might have looked back then. Also later on we found her outside in one of the small houses/huts in the little park, knitting and explaining how people lived back then.

Also other people dressed up accordingly were present and explaining. Like a young man who was sharpening swords.

Inside the buildings there were display areas with a lot of info. Never knew that on the spot where there is now Groningen (the north of the Netherlands) there was 1 km of thick ice on top of it!
We enjoyed the visit and thank the excellent guide who was a big plus.

The centre is split between several buildings and a reproduction village covering several ages in the area. The visitor centre has a movie and an exhibit. Then you can visit the reproduction Hunebed in the forest. A separate building contains a historical explanation of the area. The reproduction village contains representative buildings from the several ages. When we were there, there were people in some of the buidlings explaining what life was like at that time. After completing these we visited some other dolmens in another area (driving to get there).

Hello NeilP451,

We are very happy with your comment. Thank you for your clear review. The Dolmen D27, the biggest of the Netherlands, isn't a reproduction. It sits as it is, at the exact place en without the sand and smaller stones of course.
So you saw the grave of our ancestors and not a fake one. Thanks for your visit to Drenthe en it's dolmens. We hope you enjoyed it.

To commercial, to many stones not belonging to Drente. But... you can walk around, visit the big Hunebed and if you want to pay and get in the museum. Dutch Museumkaart give you free entrance

Hello Zermatt05,

We are dissapointed to hear we're too commercial. Most of the stones in Drenthe are all Scandinavian by the way, but their visted to Drenthe was hundred decades ago. So technically you are right, but to call it commercial?!?

Was an very nice visit to the hunebed centrum. But the restaurant was horrible. Waited 15 min before they took our order and more then 1 hour to get the food. So bring your own food!
