Wild Horses is and absolute must if you looking for relaxation and the most wonderful getaway. Wild Horses is absolutely stunning, exactly what we needed as a break from our rushed and busy lives. The Lodge hosts Emile and Michelle were amazing. We received a very welcome from Emile and Michelle and we had the honour to meet the Creators/ Owners of the Lodge. Thank you for preparing the most scrumptious and romantic dinner for us. The lodge itself is beautifully designed. We received special and individual attention from all of the Staff at Wild Horses and the Owners. Well see you soon. Thank you very much. See you soon. Vindosh and Jyothi - Umhlanga, Durban

We booked this last minute (due to bush fires elsewhere) and were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is in a great location with a stunning view over the lake. Beautifully done, the owner obviously takes a very active interest in the running of the hotel and this really shows. He invited us for pre-dinner drinks and tried the food on the first evening we were there and visits on a regular basis. The food was very good although cooked breakfast a little limited. Staff were very helpful with directions, advice, bookings etc. Great central location for Drakensberg, battlefields etc.

Wild Horses is absolutely stunning, exactly what we needed as a break from city life. It takes just about 3 hours to get there from JNB. It is situated on the Sterkfontein dam and the views from the lodge are amazing! Our hosts Emile and Michelle were superb, the food to die for! Activities include sundowners on the lodge boat or horse riding amongst others. We ended up making great friendships and we will certainly be back!

We were in SA for the World Cup and had spent time in JoBurg and Rustenburg before our stay at Wild Horses. What a wonderful contrast this was. A veritable oasis! It was peaceful, luxurious and beautiful in a simply gorgeous setting. Gerrit and Francois were excellent hosts and we cannot wait to visit again.

A truly magnificent, enjoyable, tranquil and waist enlarging four night stay with Francois and Gerrit at Wild Horses 5 star lodge. Set in stunning mountainous surroundings on a private estate overlooking the dam. Endless opportunities for walking exploring the surrounding countryside - we didn't see a soul! Swimming in the clear waters of the dam is a perfect way to make one feel a little less lazy, and exploring it further with Gerrit at the helm on the cruiser was great fun. Many types of wild animals roam freely in the hills. The lodge itself is beautifully designed, each area carefully thought through and "dressed" in style. We could happily have stayed for weeks and weeks. We were made to feel very welcome the second we arrived and felt more like friends than guests. Francois' food is exceptional both in taste and presentation. He cooks with real passion taking great care to consider dishes we might like to try. There is an excellent selection of wine in stock too - amazing how much we managed to taste in just four days! Gerrit and Francois have perfected the art of meeting your every need without being overwhelming/intrusive. After we had already moved on Gerrit went above and beyond the call of duty as a manager coming to our rescue, helping us to arrange accommodation with the lodge owners in Johannesburg when our flight was cancelled due to the volcano. This lodge will be hard to beat and will certainly remain a favourite for us– we are looking forward to future visits already. We highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys beauty, peace, and wildlife. Thank you Francois, Gerrit and all the team.

Living in Jo’burg at times makes me feel as if I’m attached to a perpetually flickering strobe light. The cure – total escape, an opt out of all reality, perhaps a little wedge of paradise. When fleeing the city lights, the definition of recuperation and delight lies in Wild Horses Guest Lodge.

It’s not so much the softest linen or bubbly baths, attention to detail or perfect view it’s not even the boat on the water or the Strawberry Daiquiris. It lies in the heart of the place. It’s the welcome, the smiles, the laughs, the tranquillity, it’s bright eyes and shared stories. The first time it was getting to know our hosts that left that special feeling and the following time it was being welcomed like friends.

And of course, no escape is whole without gastronomic delights, food that isn’t just prepared for looks or tastes. Meals that are prepared with care and personal attention to the mouths that will be taste them, create the most flavourful and long lasting memories.

So all in all, Wild Horses Lodge is where we go for our little wedge of paradise - not just in looks, but in heart too.
