We stayed at Atlantis during a very slow week in January. The place is pet friendly which is really cool. It's right on the ocean and the view is wonderful. The building is older, but it's kept up very well. Our room was the cheapest one ($70 per night) and it was small but we enjoyed it. It's a MUCH better deal than paying twice that for some of the chain type hotels in the area. The morning I woke up, I laid there in the bed looking out of the sliding door down on to the hotel's walkway and beachfront. There was a lady walking out on the walkway with these 2 beautiful dogs. She sat at the end watching the sun come all the way up, then she walked down into the sand with the dogs. It was so pretty. I like Atlantis very much. It's not a luxury resort, but it's clean and it just has a great "feel" to it.

"... it just has a great feel to it". I guess that sums it up rather well! No, we're not a luxury hotel. We're a place where you can kick your shoes off and take a deep, much needed breath. Stroll down to grab a newspaper in your robe or watch other folks with their dogs as the sun rises. Too early in the day? Then sleep in! The sun has a habit of showing off when it sets, too.

Thank you for making the point that a lovely, wonderful place to stay for the evening doesn't have to be stuffy. I really like "it was so pretty". Simple - yet perfect.

We'll see you next time,
Missy

First, I'll admit to a small fib. We recommended the Atlantis to friends who stayed in July of 2010 but we have not been able to travel to the Atlantis for a couple of years. They had a wonderful stay and hope to be able to return in the future. That being said, we dream of coming back and will be booking several days in September of this year!! We have been to the Atlantis 3 times, twice just the grown-ups and once with our 2 teenagers. We've taken the kids on many vacations including Disney and they both list the week at the Atlantis as their favorite vacation! We arrived on a night in 2007 just after a terrible thunderstorm in June. Because of localized flooding, we experienced a power outage on our second night. The hotel staff quickly relocated us to an unafffected part of the hotel and could not have been more accomodating. The kids chose to sleep in the room affected by the outage while we choose the room with power. It was a great adventure for them and allowed a heady taste of freedom from the parental units! When the power was restored, the grownups once again joined the teenagers! We did a few activities, the aqurium, pirate museum and walking tour of an old cemetary and ate out a few times but mostly just hung at the hotel and "chilled". Both kids turned off their phones and read about 8 to 10 books each. Most of their spending money was spent on books as they only brought about 4 with them. Our 15 year old daughter especially enjoyed the attendants for our beach umbrellas and chairs!! And we all loved the long walks on the beach and shelling. When we come for our stay in September we will be bringing our 2 dogs as we are now empty nesters. We look forward to our trip KNOWING we will be able to relax and enjoy ourselves in a comfortable, clean and beautiful location. Kudos to the Atlantis Lodge!!

I remember that! It was a difficult time for everyone ... but what I remember the most is the sense of comraderie that was shared. It was truly amazing to see folks from all places and walks of life join together to make the very best out of an uncontrollable situation. Much like your kids, grown-ups found ways to amuse themselves without electronics and conventional luxuries. We talked to each other. We laughed, we sweated (it was July, after all), and we got through it just fine.

Thank you so much for reminding us all that a wonderful vacation sometimes turns out differently than we expect - but as long as we're among friends it can still be quite special.

We all look forward to welcoming you back in September!

Missy

We always go before the season and after the season ends. Great for pets.
Close to More-head City where you can go to Shell-ford Island and walk the beaches and see the horses.

My husband and I go here about once a year. We originally found it because it is oceanfront and pet friendly but Atlantis Lodge is more than pet friendly. The dog is king in this hotel and I love it. Since all the rooms open to the outside they don't disturb other people and of course there are leash rules and the other important issues for traveling with pets but all the guests, as well as the staff, are so friendly and comfortable and it seems that everyone has been going there for years. Of course I also like being able to make breakfast and have some snacks on hand so as not to have to go out for every meal.

This was our second trip Atlantis Lodge. It was a wonderful experience. We travel with our dog "Schatzie" and they always make him welcome. The staff and "Cody" always make you feel special and are very heplful. The lodge is clean and well kept. It is close to all attractions on the beach and in the Morehead City area. We attended the NC Seafood Festival. What a crowd. We plan on returning next year. Our home away from home.
