The lake and the surrounding hills always seem peaceful (except the occasional roar of jet engines with aircraft at nearby Misawa airbase). There are several beaches around the lake to play in the water; realize it stays pretty cool well into summer. There is also at least one place that rents boats/sailboats. It is relatively flat around the lake and very near to sea level so it is a great area to run and bike. The views of the lake with hills in the background are really nice. Interesting history: since the lake is relatively shallow the Japanese reportedly practiced their Pearl Harbor torpedo attacks here on mock targets.
