“Great "Boere kos"”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

On our way from Greyton on the way to Hemanus jou will find this stall next to the road. A real South African experience, lots of things to buy and see, then please try the kitchen. Waterblommetjies was my favorite.

“having a "sarmie"”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

seeing a hand written menu on a blackboard and receiving a small printed menu makes the choices for lunch quiet difficult, my husband and i decided on a "sarmie" i had gammon, cheese and tomato and he had egg, bacon, cheese and tomato, i think mine was the better choice as when the sandwich arrived it looked like they had put the whole gammon on mine!! it was delicious, it was huge and i forced mine down as to not take a doggy bag. we had to order chips extra, i would say the prices are a bit steep but it was well worth it

“Becoming arrogant”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

We've been coming here for years, but as time goes by I get a sense that they are developing a kind of arrogance.

Service is not great and when we politely asked the owner for assistance, he said that he doesn't understand why people on holiday aren't patient.

Also, not much on the menu if you don't want to consume a ton of bread.

“You must stop here!”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

This is one of the most well-known places on the N2 to take a well deserved break. While waiting for your meal in the farm style kitchen (and a fire place in winter), you can shop for wine, cheese, meat, antiques, leatherworks, plants, home made pies and condiments, etc. The mutton offal ("skaapkerrie afval) is brilliant, and other traditional meals include waterblommetjiebredie (local speciality) and many other traditional dishes. Served often with freshly baked bread and jams!! ou may have a problem to continue uninterrupted with your trip! Kids can enjoy the animals in the farm yard, perfect place to spend their excess energy after hours in the car. No wonder this is regarded as one of the top farm stalls in the country.

“Best Boere kos i have ever had”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

If old world charm is your thing.. you must not drive past Dassies-fontein. There's so much going on.. from coal stoves to handmade leather boots, to clothing.. wow too much to mention!! I bought handmade ceramic door knobs (which is not easy to find) from their shop and they sell bokkoms, homemade bread and pies. We waited a while to be seated, but there was so much to look at that the time went by quickly. We ordered our drinks and got an old enamel container with moer coffee, which we thought was such a great touch. We ordered from their lunch menu which is written on an old "antique looking" board. We had waterblommetjie bredie, roasted chicken and tomato bredie with patats and rice. It was really the best plate of boerekos i had in a restaurant!! Worth the visit!! There is no outdoor seating available though, which makes seating space very limited. So make sure you make a booking before arrival.
