“Good family value”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

Beautiful setting. The kids enjoyed the hot water pools and we spend almost the whole day in the water. The swimming pool at the hotel was also great fun, just a pity the pool bar was closed on Sunday, but understandably so. We had great fun.
The only negative was that we only had one bath towel in our room when we arrived, but this is a normal mistake and was immediately rectified when we phoned.
The only reason for the average rating is that we feel that they could have included the children's breakfast in the room rate as well. Our kids are aged 6 & 8 and they ate very little.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the pool are quieter with an excellent view over the valley, but for a family with w...

Great resort with lots to do, beautiful surroundings, a great place to relax and unwind. The only thing that needs improvement is the restaurant meals. Although breakfast is fantastic with a large selection. Food offerings from the Black Sheep and DiVinci's were substandard.

Room Tip: rooms downstairs facing the pool are great, especially if you have kids.

As usual our stay was most enjoyable rooms clean staff friendly and helpful food of good quality and attentive waiters .the only problem was that 2 of the more popular pools were not in use due to being cleaned [not the normal day for this ] so it was a bit disappointing however the resort asked for feed back and were most apologetic .Will return .

Room Tip: Having tried different rooms the quietest are facing the valley

We had a wonderful time at the Caledon hotel and spa. The food, especially room service, was delicious. Our room, no 250, was quiet and peaceful, overlooking the valley. It felt as though we were far away from everything, and yet just outside the hotel are the mineral pools and we met some interesting and very friendly people. The top pool was too hot for us, but we loved the Jacuzzi, and my daughter enjoyed the floatation pool, which was as warm as a bath. We spent some time in the sauna and the turkish bath. Spending time in the pools at night, under the stars, was most enjoyable.

Room Tip: Our room was far from reception and the hustle and bustle of the hotel, yet we had service whenever...

We arrived the Friday afternoon and within 2 minutes one of the hotel staff offered to help with bags and when we got in the room the same person managed to get a babycot with clean bedding. The reception staff is so welcoming ALL of them. However we food is somewhat dodgy. We were disappointed on 2 occasions at two different places. Nevertheless the sports massage was great and the rockpools awesome.....BUT the babysitting was the highlight as our little one did not want to leave :-) She was content and well taken care off... So the end result is,,WE WILL BE BACK VERY SOON!!

Room Tip: Try and get a room away from reception as it becomes noisy sometimes...

Initially booked for 5 nights, the stay was extended by another night because we were enjoying our time at this establishment and weren't so eager to leave. It caters for a wide variety of guests and with the casino close by and the hot spring waters at the spa, we were kept busy. We took advantage of the mid-week special. A mid-week stay is also a much better time if you're looking for some quiet time to de-stress. It can get very busy over weekends and the spa area a little too crowded.

The hotel staff are all very friendly and housekeeping is on the ball when it comes to tidying up rooms in the morning. It is a real pleasure returning even after a short time away, to find the room had been cleaned. The free in-room Wifi came in handy. My only complaint about the hotel, was that cigarette smoke could be smelt in the hallway. I'm not sure with Tsogo Sun taking over, if there are now smoking rooms at the hotel, the booking confirmation clearly says "non-smoking establishment", but it was disgusting to walk through the lingering odour. At one stage I could smell it seep into the room.
If the hotel wants to offer smoking rooms, then they should make sure it doesn't have any impact on other guests.

We went for one of the signature spa treatments - my first at this venue. I wish someone had explained what body exfoliation involved - OMG! We could laugh it off afterwards, but it was an experience I won't forget so easily. It was well worth it in the end. I would have liked it better once the treatment was done, to have 10 minutes to just relax afterwards - to lay and be still. Even if the time was taken from my allocated time, I woud have been okay with that. The rushed exit, to get dressed and out the door - that spoilt the experience a little.

The Victorian Bath house, was exceptionally cold and disappointing for the duration of my time at the hotel - compared with previous times. It had doors on the side, which kept the wind out. These doors were removed, resulting in cold drafts constantly cooling the water down. The Khoi San pools were warm and nicer to sit in. I only wish they would put up hangers(clothing hooks) by this area, for guests to hang their gowns and towels, instead of having everything laying on the wet ground. A suggestion I've already forwarded to them. Inconsiderate guests were the main problem in the spa area, smoking and littering the area with the cigarette butts. The security guards just seem to stand around and fail to act - even though smoking is not permitted.

Both the sauna and steamroom could do with some maintenance and improvements. The gym was well-equipped and in working order. Ventilation needs attention, especially after its been locked up for the evening. The gym towels were not restocked as frequently as they should have been. Several guests including myself made use of the gym - so it definitely gets used alot.

I really enjoy staying at Caledon Hotel and will stay there again. I communicated some concerns and other suggestions to the management and they were very quick to respond. I'd be interested to know if theres been any improvement made to the facilities at the spa since.

As long as Caledon Hotel, Spa, Casino continue to improve and innovate, they can't go wrong.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms close to reception - the bar area can get noisy and the sound travels far Book a delu...
