Had a fantastic stay.
Fantastic sea view, particularly the view from the bathtub looking out to sea and the hills. Makes a nice end to the day. The house is rural and quiet.
We were lucky with the weather. brilliant sunshine. The owner, Colette, had home made bread, jam and her own eggs in a welcome basket. She made us dinner one night from local produce, crab salad and local fish main. French influence Irish cuisine.
We had the fire one night, as it was a bit chilly in the evening. The cottage is well appointed, good kitchen and nice lounge / open plan dining area. There are fresh eggs, bread and vegetables available from Colette. She arranged for us to use the internet via WiFi (not that fast but OK).
Location: 30 minutes from Kenmare and 20 minutes to Catsletownbere.
Things we liked doing: walking The Beara Way near tot he house; the walk to Collorus beach and the ruins of Old Collorus Village; having a beer at Kilmackilloge Pub; walking through Deereen Gardens (botanical); The Loop Walk near Ardgroom (ask at Ardgroom PO) and driving around Beara Peninsula including a stop at McCarthy's Bar in Castletownbere.
I would recommend bring warm clothes as it seems one has to prepare for 4 seasons. Good walking boots / shoes is a must!
This was a 'staycation' week break with a family member visiting from overseas.
In summary, perfect for 2 people, its not a luxury, glitzy establishment, but an authentic Irish country cottage experience, picturesque.
